SANO PROMOTED TO AA!!!11!!

According to Jon Heyman and also rotowire! That was after he went 2 for 4 (all homeruns) for FTM today. Sano hit 16 bombs in 243 PA, while hitting .330, walking at a 12% clip and maintaining his K% from last year. All while hitting in the notorious pitcher's paradise called the Florida State League.

Twinkietown Unofficial Draft Thread

via birdknowsbest.com Since I haven't seen a thread yet for the draft tonight like we had here last year I've decided to take it upon myself to create a thread. Last year the Twins selected...

Holy Small Sample Size Batman! Buxton and Berrios Promoted to E-town

A quick promotion for the Twins' first two draft pics this year after just 27 games and 88 ABs for Buxton and 16.2 innings for Berrios. Berrios straight up dominated GCL in the small sampling of innings; he pitched to an ERA of 1.08 and FIP of 0.50 with a K/9 of 14.58 while only walking 1.62 per 9 (K:BB of 9.00!). However, Buxton hit .216/.324/.466/.789. While he posted an ISO of .250 (better than Miguel Sano did in the GCL), Buxton showed a penchant for whiffery- striking out in over 25% of his PA's. Additionally he has yet to turn his 80 run tool in to SB's posting a very poor 4:3 SB:CS ratio (57%). With only a .216 average and k'ing that much I would have like to have seen Buxton spend the rest of the season in the GCL and prove that he can make consistent contact with wood bats. These are very much an unusual set of moves for the Twins as they promote very conservatively. While I have many issues with how the Twins handle college prospects, I do think a conservative approach is good when it comes to high school players. I think Berrios should have no problem with the Appy League, but I fear Buxton may be over his head. Look the Byron to continue hitting the long ball the hitter's paradise of Elizabethton, but he is still very raw and the key to his success will be cutting down on the whiffs and hitting more liners.

Well whaddyaknow? Wimmers has setback in rest and rehab program

Everybody and their grandmother saw this coming. When has rest and rehab ever worked when it comes to UCL injuries? I can not think of one time. Instead of getting the surgery ASAP back in April, the Twins wasted several months of valuable development time for Wimmers, both hurting the organization and his career.

Aaron Hicks collects 5 hits against the Binghamton Mets, finishes triple shy of cycle

I'll admit, I've always been very bearish on Hicks. But his 2012 season has been very promising. He seems to have figured out RHP, which, as switch hitter had always been his biggest knock. Oh and he's hitting .355/.459/.581 in July. Also, this was an all around nice win for the Cats as they won 11-2 and collected 18 hits. Hermsen struck out 8 over 7 innings. And they beat up Zack Wheeler for 6 runs in 4 innings.

ESPNU 150 O-lineman has Wisconsin in his final 4 teams.

Jordan Diamond is the #94 ranked recruit over at ESPN and the #1 ranked recruit in the state of Illinois and has Wisconsin in his final four schools. He will be making his official visit to Madison today, and if you have insider you can read that he says a lot of positive things about Wisconsin and it appears that the Badgers may be the front runners to land him.

Cubs sign DeJesus.

Sigh. DeJesus was my biggest target this offseason, both for his excellent outfield defense and high OBP. However, it doesn't surprise me that the Twins miss the finer points of complex stats like, OBP (that's a joke, folks!). Sadly, we at TT will also miss out on all the memes that he brings to our game threads, because you know, no one messes with DeJesus.

Selig to retire to UW-Madison campus after 2012 and focus on memoirs.

As a Madison senior and Twins fan I am none too happy with this. Selig, a UW-Madison alum gets a course to be taught on the history of sports and an office in the Hummanities building in which to write his memoirs; those were requirements for his endowment fund. I wonder if he is going to write about how he couldn't wait to rid of those darn Twins and how the Badgers still don't have a baseball team.

Funniest Names of the 2011 Draft

When you have a list of 1,530 random names you are bound to find some comic gold. This is another winner by the guys over at Baseball Nation. Nice to see that two of the Twins selections make the list: Trent Higginbotham #808, and David Hurlbut #868. My favorites are Kevin Quackenbush and Joel Effertz.

Oswaldo Arcia hits disabled list.

This via Seth Stohs. Since we are all paying more attention to the minors than normal, we are all even more interested in our youngsters' success. Arcia had been fighting a sore shoulder and elbow this spring. Take it from a former outfielder that fought elbow soreness every spring, the soreness tends to work itself out. However, the Twins have already had two minor league position players have TJ surgery this year, so this is worrisome for the future uber prospect.

Royals to Listen to Offers for Greinke

From MLBTR, I had no idea that KC was even seriously considering this idea. I thought it was nothing more than a pipe dream. However, I doubt the Twins would have the necessary pieces to pull off a trade for the 2009 Cy Young winner.

Hardy Under the Radar

This is a nice article over at fangraphs, for those who haven't seen it. Basically Hardy has been really good the second half, and now he's one of the better SS in the league. Possibly the best one in the postseason.

2011 Contract Issues

There is this nice little write-up over at MLBtraderumers.com on our contractual and payroll issues for next season. The Twins are still paying Mike Lamb 100k this year, what a joke. This is a nice, quick read for the off day today, so I thought I'd bring it up.
