Sources: Sacramento Kings may move to Virginia Beach, arena deal in the works

"City officials and the Maloof family are expected to announce Wednesday, Aug. 29, that the Kings will land in Virginia Beach, sources said." What?!

Does Grant Napear have a long lost son? Who's to blame for us not having a new Arena?

So I’ve been enjoying my summer, trying to get past the misery we were handed this past spring when the Maloofs sabotaged the arena. This past weekend I was at the Nevada County Fair, first time,...

Bruski: Have the Maloofs threatened the NBA’s billion dollar arena subsidy industry?

Aaron Bruski's latest. There's so much to quote from this, I'm not even sure what to highlight. "Talking with sources close to the negotiations, it’s clear that many of them are done trying to understand what the Maloofs are doing right now. Exasperated would be the appropriate word."

MVP renews plans to buy Kings

SPORTS patron Manny V. Pangilinan is pursuing plans to buy the struggling Sacramento Kings in the NBA, according to coach Chot Reyes, who is now in California laying down the groundwork for a meeting between MVP and NBA Commissioner David Stern.

KCRA: Sacramento Kings Ownership Stake Questioned

New developments regarding Robert Cook's ownership stake. I found this particular line interesting: "Portanova also said the documents suggest the NBA may move to invalidate Cook's purchase and possibly seize control of that minority ownership stake."

City Manager Shirey with the best rebuttal of the Maloofs' misinformation yet

He tears down some of their biggest arguments. Also in the quote below he reveals yet another Maloof contradiction. "This is blatantly false. The city assumed 152 events per year with total ticket sales of 1.41 million per year, including basketball. That attendance is roughly equal to the number of attendees at Power Balance Pavilion over the most recent years. Ironically, in the Orlando negotiations, the Kings argued that the city's attendance assumptions for non-basketball events were too low."

The Maloofs won't be the ownership group that relocates the team

The Maloofs needed the NBA to front all of their portion in this downtown arena deal. They have no money. I don't see how the Maloofs can afford to move the team to Anaheim when the NBA prefers not... (via AP): Mayor KJ pivotal in keeping NBA in Sacramento

We know the result, but this has further details and some great quotes on how KJ pulled this off for us. I especially liked this quote: "I've been around governors and presidents, and what I saw was an unbelievable, almost Hollywood-type moment,'' said Darius Anderson, partner in a group headed by Pittsburgh Penguins owner Ron Burkle, in attendance to propose a plan to buy the Kings or another franchise and move it to Sacramento. "To a person in that room, one of the best speeches I've ever heard."

LA Times: Sacramento Kings' owners to reveal decision about possible move Monday

An official close to the situation but unauthorized to discuss it publicly said the Maloofs have consulted a high-powered antitrust attorney to determine how they could proceed if the NBA were to deny their application for relocation

Bee: Maloofs' woes an issue for NBA

A consultant familiar with the Kings' finances said the team is losing about $8 million a year. The losses would be higher, except that the Kings operate with the lowest player payroll in the league – around $44 million in the just-concluded regular season.

Forbes: Value Of Sacramento Kings Is Now Up To David Stern

Summary: Value of Kings staying in PBP is $300 million, Burkle would pay up to $350 million Value of Kings in Honda Center: $325 million, but they'd have to pay off $77 loan Basically the Anaheim move looks like a really bad business decision

OC Register: NBA talks with Kings' Maloofs, Anaheim officials

Clay Bennett today has a Conference Call with the Maloofs and Anaheim officials.
