I have lived in the bay area most of my life and have been a pretty hardcore fan for maybe 8 to 10 years now. I think everyone can agree that it is a fact that we have an incredibly dedicated fan-base, especially in relation to our teams actual performance. Unfortunately for us though, most players in the NBA don't have a strong desire to come here to play and the image of our team to the league isn't that well established. So I propose an idea I've had for a long long time.

I think the Warriors should move to San Francisco.

I have a couple thought I'd like to make on this idea.

1. I think San Francisco could better support the image of the team without moving them too far from where they are. It's still close to the current fans.

2. They could go back to being "the city," the coolest uniform and logo combination, EVER.

3. San Francisco is awesome and could attract more players.

4. The 49ers are moving to Santa Clara leaving San Francisco with only one professional team.

5. The Warriors redid their arena a bit in 1996 (or whenever it was) but I think its been long enough that they wouldn't be making that all for nothing.

6. The A's and Raiders don't want to share their stadium and could build a new one in place of the current warriors arena.

Those are my general thoughts on it, I don't think this could happen for awhile, but if tried to do this by say 2013, that could be really cool.

What do you all think?

Monta's return, a look on the bright side (& another great trade idea!)

Finally. Monta Ellis is back on the court.

After Monta Ellis growing into his near super-star form, only to irresponsibly injure himself just after receiving the role of being the Warriors franchise player, it is great to see Monta playing again. While in many ways one can blame Monta for this throw-away season and the grief he has caused the organization, there are a few key positives to the situation.

The Warriors record is bad, really bad. Without Monta there was no chance at the playoffs and now the Warriors hover around the bottom 6 in the league. If you think about it though, did the Warriors ever have a shot this year? If Monta was playing from the start there would have been a core of young Monta and younger Biedrins surrounded by a surplus of swingmen like Maggette, Jackson, and Azubuike. At best the Warriors would probably end up one or two spots out of the playoffs, again. Could the Warriors even beat out Dallas to then battle Phoenix for the 8th seed? And of course all while under experiment of the franchise player in a new position.

Monta Ellis as a point guard. He has always been a shooting guard, combo guard at best with the great Baron Davis along side him to push the success of the team. There has been debate as to whether or not Monta can run the show on his own. Well now he has a great team to try it on. While a plethora of swingmen won't win a championship, it can be good for Monta to have to run a team with many versatile players. Even if Monta turns out to be a dud at point guard would that really be all that bad? That would mean the Warriors would stay in the bottom 6 in the league, and have a great shot at being able to draft a true point guard through the draft.

So either Monta does great at point guard and the Warriors get a draft pick in the 7 to 12 range, or Monta goes back to shoot guard (where he became the great player he is) and the Warriors get a draft pick in the top 6. As bad as this season is, those two possibilities are not so bad after all that has happend.

It's going to be exciting to watch Monta go back to being one of the fastest players in the league and develop his point guard skills. The team record might be bad the future may be bright.

P.S. Along with this optimistic look at things I have a trade idea. It's almost common knowledge now that Elton Brand is not working out in Philadelphia.

The Warriors have two natural shooting guards in Monta and Jamal, and they have two small forwards in Jackson and Maggette. I'd like the Warriors to use Don Nelson's original line up of Monta, Jackson, and Maggette; which would mean trading Jamal somehow to either clear up space for signing Boozer this summer, or even better, getting Brand now. My proposed trade is Jamal Crawford and Brandan Wright for Elton Brand:

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=91~165~3242&teams=9~20~20&te=&cash=

PG: Monta Ellis

SG: Stephen Jackson

SF: Corey Maggette

PF: Elton Brand

C: Andris Biedrins

DAMN! Look at that line-up!

Trade Idea: Warriors, Miami, Clippers

I would like to see a trade like this happen: trade away maggette + jackson and pickup either a great player or an expiring contract, or both.

Warriors

trade away: Maggette, Jackson

receive: Marion

Clippers

trade away: Kaman

receive: Jackson

Heat

trade away: Marion

receive: Maggette, Kaman

I doubt Marion can save us, but at the least he will free us up 17 million to go after Boozer. Or if we keep him we will have a good defender who can help us rebound and play SF or PF.

The Heat get a real center.

Clipper get rid of their log jam in the post for a good SG/SF.

I find it really hard right now to stay completely loyal to the Warriors. I feel like our management doesn't make bold enough moves. They seem to just put together a good enough team to maybe compete for an 8th seed, and thats it. I like Maggette as a player, but we have Stephen Jackson. We have 4 $10million+ players now and we STILL need a star. I think signing Maggette was done just for the sake of making an okay team. And now we have crawford, who is great to watch, but we have sooo many guards/swing players its getting ridiculous. Unless a big trade is in the works I'm going to be pretty pissed. I've been a huge warrior fan for awhile but I'm getting sick of feeling like the fans have more passion than the owners. At what point do you just say screw you to the ownership and start following teams with smart management like Portland, San Antonio, Boston, etc. It seems like the Warriors would be better run through voting on this website than with the people we have.

2009 and 2010 free agents

espn has a list of these and its pretty interesting to look through

I really don't think we are going to be able to trade for a championship center or power forward, and drafting one is in no way a sure thing, so I say we look to future free agents Carlos Boozer (2009) and Yao Ming (ETO 2010). Both of these guys are good for 20+ points, and 10+ rebounds.

Boozer showed us a year ago that he is better in the post than anyone on the Warriors and I think he could do a great job of filling the 4 spot next to our good-but-not-great center in biedrins. To get him might only take money. He had the option of playing next to Lebron or heading to Utah with more pay, and he took the money. So if we don't get any big free agent this summer, we could just save our cap space next year with a couple 1-year contracts. boozer might not be a "Championship PF" but he is high up in terms of skill level.

With Yao Ming, he isn't the best center in the game, but maybe top 5, maybe top 3. The combination of an unproven run with T-Mac and the warm welcome our local asian community would give him maybe be enough to lure him to Golden State.

What about Al Harrington for Ron Artest?

I have objected to Ron Artest before, but maybe this could work. This of course would only work if we signed Okafor, Brand or Smith, but then we could have jackson and artest share the 2-3 spots with artest defending the other teams best player and have monta as our point. Then Biedrins and the nw PF up front.

financially, this could help us too, ron's contract is about 2 million less than Harrington's so we'd have 2million more to sign a power forward.

Also, I don't see Harrington pushing us over the edge this season and I artest clearly hates his team. Maybe if we take on artest for a year he will like it and want to come back and play hard for us. He has never really fit in on a team well, maybe he'll find that with us. Either way, this year is about shaping a new team, and we'll have more cap room now, and even more cap room at the end of the season. He only has one year left too.

idea to change lottery rather than add more speculation as to who the warriors should draft, here another thought to think about. right now, in case you don't know, the lottery only sets the top 3 teams, after that the draft order is based on record. my thought is what if they used the lottery to decide all 14 spots? teams like the blazers and warriors are basically guarrented their spots with no real chance at a top 3 pick. if all spots were up for grabs the teams that miss the playoffs still have a decent shot a #7 to #12 pick, which can be considerably different than #'s 13 & 14. i just feel its crap for a team to be contending for a playoff spot and then have failing have such a negative affect on their future draft position.

Warriors Offseason, avoid Brand?

This summer there is obviously going to be a huge rush for teams to try and get O'Neal, Brand, and Jamison. Right now it looks like Brand is the mostly likely to leave his team. If he is the only top level PF able to be signed, he could very well only be signed for an insane amount of money. Say the Warriors did sign him, that would be a large portion of our payroll for the next few years. And while he did finish the season well, there is no knowing how his performance will be overall the next few seasons. We might end up overpaying like the bulls did with Ben Wallace.

Because of this I think it would be best to do a couple things.

1. First of all, make Brandon Wright a starter. Even if he doesn't play many minutes (20 per game), we need to do everything possible to make him a great PF. Or at least worth the J-Rich Trade.

2. Try and sign non-PF players while everyone is chasing after Brand. Right now I think it would be worth looking at Theo Ratliff as a back-up center. He's got good defense and hopefully won't cost too much money. Also, I would consider Chris Duhon. I don't think he's doing to be amazing, but definitely a solid back-up PG.

3. Lastly, I want to trade Al as much as a lot of people on here do, but I think we should wait. If we can get a great trade for him, that's awesome, go for it. But next season his value will go up because a team trading for him would gain a good player + an expiring contract.

4. Players like Pietrus and O'Bryant aren't doing much for are team but could probably fit in well with other teams. I think we should shop them around for sign-n-trades, maybe in some deals involving Theo and Duhon. Otherwise, I wouldn't resign them.

If I could change the playoffs....

This year, as we all know, the Warriors missed out on the playoffs despite having a better record than Cleveland. Also, Portland had a better record than certain Eastern playoff teams. And finally, Utah was a 4th seed because of winning its division even though by record they should be a 6th seed. In the case of Portland and Golden State, I feel it is completely unfair for teams with worse records (and easier schedules in the east) to have the opportunity to compete for the NBA Championship; they don't deserve it more in anyway.

Right now the division champions are determined by season record standings, and given a top 4 seed in the playoffs.

The conference champion is determined by who makes it to the NBA finals.

My changes would be the following:

Division champion is a regular season award based on record with no connection to playoff seeding.

Conference champion is a regular season award based on record with no connection to playoff seeding.

ONE playoff bracket combining both conferences with the top 16 teams overall seeded purely by record. This would be much more exciting because, like in college, come playoff time your team can end up playing any number of possible opponents. If this was the format today, here is how the match ups would look.

1 Boston

16 Portland

8 Utah

9 Orlando

5 San Antonio
