Welcome Back Chase! Pictures from Tuesday's Game

My flickr stream from Tuesday night's game- The Phillies won, Chase was back, and I had a blast!

Chase Utley Activated

The Phillies have activated Second Baseman Chase Utley! Welcome back Chase! In a related move, Greg Dobbs was designated for assignment.

Should Cole Throw the Cutter?

Saw this on Fangraphs Blogs. Suggests that he should throw the cutter to lefties, who have not been able to get a single hit off of the pitch, but leave it out with righties, who have been able to crush a number of them for home runs. If you want a laugh, look for "Cole Hamels" and "Carlos Ruiz" in the comments section!

Cody Ransom Designated for Assignment

Per Matt Gelb: The Philadelphia Phillies designated infielder Cody Ransom for Assignment today. Ransom was hitting .190 with two home runs, including the tying two-run homerun in the Phillies Friday night comeback against the Reds.

Goodbye Moyer?

With today's announcement that Jamie Moyer has a sprained Ulnar Collateral ligament and a strained flexor pronator tendon in his left elbow and will be heading to the disabled list for an...

Welcome Back Chooch!!!!!!!

Carlos Ruiz is back in the starting lineup tonight. In a blow to the long term survival of Cerberus, Dane Sardinha has been designated for assignment. Welcome back Chooch-- it is good to see you again!

Madson Activated off 60 Day DL

Per Matt Gelb, Ryan Madson has been activated from the disabled list. And in a move many on this list suspected, Mike Zagurski has been activated off of the disabled list. Gelb also mentioned that the Phillies are in a team meeting-- lets hope that they figure out how to right the ship!

Good News for Peanuthead!!!!!!

Placido Polanco told Matt Gelb that he is feeling much better, and will be able to start a rehab appearance over the weekend and return after the All Star Break. This may be nothing, but it is the most hope our infield has had in a week! Let's hope that when the Phillies return after the All Star Break, 2/3 of Cerberus can go back where it belongs!

J.A. Happ Activated, Optioned to AAA

In a move that is somewhat unsurprising considering his rehab performance, left handed pitcher J.A. Happ has been activated and optioned to AAA Lehigh Valley. This is very disappointing for last year's Rookie of the Year Runner Up. Here's hoping that he is able to re-find his form and return to the majors soon. [EDIT: If you're looking for further explication, David Murphy had an excellent breakdown of the Happ situation yesterday.]

Charlie Manuel Suspended

In addition to the Phillies injury woes, it seems that they will be spending today's game without Manager Charlie Manuel who has been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for his altercation with homeplate umpire C.B. Buckner during the tenth inning of Tuesday's game.

Schneider Activated From the 15 Day Disabled List... Hoover Designated for Assignment

In an example of the 15 day disabled list actually only being fifteen days, backup catcher Brian Schneider has been activated off of the disabled list.He is hitting .167 (3-for-18) with two walks and three runs scored this season for Philadelphia. To make room for Schneider, catcher Paul Hoover has been designated for assignment. Hoover hit .278 (5-for-18) with two doubles, two RBIs and six runs scored in six games for the Phillies. Point to ponder: is the potential upgrade on defense worth the something of a downgrade on offense presented by the switch? Or are the improved offensive numbers given by Hoover only a product of small sample size and getting the opportunity to play every day as a result of the knee injury to Carlos Ruiz?

Rays Designate Burrell for Assignment In ex-Phillies news, it turns out that Pat Burrell's time in Tampa may be up even before his contract ends at the end of this season, as the Rays...
