Baltimore vs. New England?
I'm not so sure Jets fans should be rooting for Baltimore here...
Obviously we want New England to lose as much as possible, but Baltimore holds the tiebreaker against the Jets and the Jets hold the tiebreaker against the Cheats. If the Jets want to be the number 1 seed in the AFC in January, then a Baltimore loss here would help. I'm not positive but I believe a Baltimore loss would result in the Jets controlling their own destiny for the 1 seed. There are 5 teams in the AFC with only 1 loss. Jets, Cheats, Ravens, Steelers, and the Chiefs. The Jets play the Cheats and the Steelers, and everyone knows the Chiefs will suffer a few losses. So the only team out of the Jets control would be Baltimore. Obviously this argument sounds a little stupid because its assuming alot, but I'm trying to be optimistic that the Jets are for real. Remember, our goal is not to win the division, it is to lead the league in f******g wins.
Cromartie on Moss
Lets assume the Randy Moss deal gets done today and we see him Monday Night. AlCROtraz should 100 percent line up against Moss. We learned week 2 that Cro can easily handle the task. Favre and Moss will not be on rythm which will give CRO the opportunity to make a play and bring one back atleast once. Also this will give Revis an easier comeback task. No need for Revis to be running downfield every play for no reason and re-injure his hamstring. Either way our secondary will make Moss a non-factor, but Cro is the smarter matchup.
Leon
Neon Leon Washington is expected to sign his tender Thursday. I am not sure what this means for the Jets. There are a number of possibilities that could develop from this. He could be kept and used as a weapon on offense along with other. He could be dealt to the Steelers. My personal favorite option is to use him in a deal to move up in the draft. If we could potentially set up a package in order to move up far enough to draft Brandon Graham, all our major needs will be met. From there we could draft a RB in a later round along with other depth positions. While i doubt this will happen, I don't see a good future for Leon on the Jets. While he is a great player contract negotiations tend to ruin relationships.
finish the offseason strong
The Jets' remaining offseason plan should be simple. I know everybody here hates the guy, but Brandon Marshall has unbelievable talent. Can the Jets draft somebody better than Marshall, absolutely. Is it likely that they will, negative. Marshall has showed potential to go out and make specatacular plays and change a game. That is with brandon stokley on the other side...could you imagine what Marshall could produce with Braylon and Cotchery on the other side, Keller in the middle, and LT in the flats? Not only would they have the best Defense in football, the best running tandem in football, but they would have SCARY passing game. Give up the 29th pick for Marshall. Leon is leaving which will leave the Jets with two 2nd rounders. Draft TOBY GERHART, and another defensive stud, either mount CODY or a nice de/lb pass rusher. Our offense would consist of a running game with Shonn Greene, LT, and Toby. Sanchez can air it out to Marshall Edwards jCotch Keller and LT. AND our Revis lead Defense will still deadly, everyone needs to remember that we had the #1 ranked defense last season, WITHOUT Kris Jenkins. Now with Pouha and Kris sharing time, hopefully Kris can stay healthy.
CJ Spiller
If the Jets are able to sign a veteran safety in Atogwe or Jackson, and possibly a veteran pass rusher in Adalius Thomas (if ever released), they will have completed 3 of the top 5 priorities this offseason before the Draft has even taken place. With that in mind, and a future Leon Washington signing in San Francisco becoming apparent, the Jets are going to begin planning their annual Draft Day jump to the top half in order to get the player of their choice. Last year it was sanchez (not too bad) and greene (best steal of the draft). Gholston we didnt move up for. And before that the Jets jumped to the top to draft Revis (best CB in football now). This year, the jets will use multiple 2nd round picks as ammunition to trade up and select the dynamic CJ Spiller RB from Clemson. With Greene's power and Spiller's break out speed, that tandom will be hard to stop; talk about a home run threat EVERY play. They will spend a first and a second round pick to get Spiller and still have a second round pick remaining to draft shipley. The Jets would then have an extremely young talented Offense (minus a couple linemen) and maybe the best defense in football.
