I live in Craig, Colorado but grew up 45 minutes from the K and went to as many games as I could. I am an area director for Young Life, a Christian youth mentoring and outreach ministry. I pay way toooo much attention to the Royals and my work allows it.

Casper Ghosts now the Grand Junction Rockies
I just realized that the Casper Ghosts have moved this summer to Grand Junction, Colorado. The Chukars will play three series in Grand Junction, which is two-and-a-half hours from me (as opposed to 4 hours to Casper). I'm hopeful the Royals will send a couple of top draft picks to Idaho Falls so I can give you all some scouting reports of the boys in rookie ball.
salvador perez
this article from dutton makes it sound like he's getting close... and it sheds some light on Wil's transition to the outfield. I didn't realize they were so high on him. Just another reason to love our minor league system
say goodbye to our friend Rowdy
from Schuam's site
What, no Jenn Sterger references?
I thought we we were big fans of Jenn Sterger on the site? I've been waiting for some sort of post all week. When the whole thing came out I thought, "wait, Jenn Sterger, the same Jenn Sterger that gets referenced all the time on RR?" Am I wrong?
Lamb no-hits through 6 & 1/3
Sorry Dubya that I might be stealing your MiLB thunder, but I was listening to the game so I though I'd update. John Lamb's line - 6 1/3 innings 0 hits 0 runs 3 walks, 5 ks. They took him out after a walk in the sixth. Announcers said he was only allowed 90 pitches. Dayton Moore was there to witness it.
Guillen at it again
He's now 1-4 with the giants...except that his one hit he was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. you can watch the video on his player page that is linked. He definitely ran out of gas rounding second.
Joe Dickerson retires
Dickerson's was a top 25 prospect going into the season.
Fan Graphs saying Royals worse than Nats...or at least close
There is some banter in the comments about the Royals being better than at least three NL teams, but they are certainly trying for Bryce Harper.
Who is this Deivy Batista?
Yes it's early, but Deivy Batista is in the top five in nearly every offensive category in the Pioneer League. He also had a strong line in his debut in the AZL last year but has already surpased his home run total (5) in just nine games played with the Chukars. Although he does have as many errors at short as he does home runs, there could be some promise in the foreign kids coming through the system
my failed attempt to scout the Chukars and...
I realized early this week that the Casper Ghosts, in Casper, Wyo. were hosting the Idaho Falls Chukars for five games. Seeing that it's the closest baseball field filled with non-high school players to my home, my wife and I hopped in the car for a three-hour drive to catch a double-header on Friday. Unfortunately, Casper was under flash-flood warnings when we arrived and the games were rained out. I was looking forward to giving a very amateur scouting report of some of the hot-hitting Chukars against the Ghosts. I also wore my Royals jersey with the hope to convert some people close to the Battle of Grass Creek. The only conversation I had with any fans was with one of the Ghost's Interns who told me that water had completely filled the dugouts. The next time the Chukars are in Casper I will have been a first-time-father for all of two weeks (if the due date is accurate) so I probably will have to wait till next season to catch them.

royals win...all of them
All Royal's affiliates in action Monday night won. KC 4-2, Omaha, 2-0, NWA 5-2, Wil. 7-3, Bees off-night, B. Royals 8-5, IF 10-2. Not often that everyone gets the W.
some fresh fish to watch while the big boys flounder
At least with the Chukars and the Burlington (of the carolina persuasion) Royals starting up we can check out some of our 2009 draftees like Cole White (Chukars) and Ryan Wood (Burlington) just to name a few. Another one to watch will be Travis Jones in Burlington. The Royals took a chance on him in the 50th round last year and he signed (I think he had a scholarship to ASU). Supposedly he could be a big surprise from the 2008 draft.
Royals get no love from Gammons
Maybe some of the Royals' young talent is a year away from getting noticed, because Davies is the only player mentioned by the scouts Gammons talked to in this story.
Uh-oh
Does Hernandez's demotion mean TPJ will make the 25-man roster?
Teahen to Indians?
Bob Dutton says there are talks for Teahen for Franklin Gutierrez, Ben Francisco or minor-leaguer Trevor Crowe.
who do we root for?
If Detroit wins today they will tie with the Royals in overall record, so really they would finish in last again. I believe KC had the advantage in games vs. Detroit, which technically wins the tie-breaker. So do we root for the Sox to win today or Detroit? I would say the Sox for two reasons. 1. It forces an old-fashioned playoff for the playoffs. 2. It gives us fourth place outright. PS What's with teams not playing all of their games? Oakland is one game short and has the same number of wins as KC but one less loss. I guess that moves the Royals in front for draft order, but seems a little off in the grand scheme. PPS I hadn't noticed that the Yanks had the fourth-best record but didn't make it. Way to go under-performing AL Central.
Bees starters are the currency of the future
We hyped up the NW Arkansas pitching staff going into this year. Does the foursome of starters for the Bees this year of Gutierrez, Caldera, Mitchell and Duffy become our next most-watched group? Wilmington's starters had some strong numbers as well. GMDM is rolling in the dough of baseball currency.
Top pitching picks update
Second round pick Michael Montgomery has pitched well this summer in Arizona. He's 2-1 with a 1.76 ERA, 24 ks to 7 bbs in 30.2 innings. Tyler Sample has struggled with control 24 walks in 19 innings but he's also missing a lot of bats (27ks). His last two outings have been strong with 10 IP, 10 ks, 0 bbs. and 0 ERs.
Kilamonster (rhymes with gila monster) kills another pitch
Kila hit his fifth home run in nine games in Omaha on Friday. This dude in en fuego. Is he starting to challenge for Shealy's chance next year?
interesting day for omaha
Shealy ejected. Kila the baseball killer hit his third long ball since call up. I didn't even notice Atencio was called up. He k'd six in three innings today.
the moose is loose
Mouse tacos continues his hot streak as of late last night hitting two home runs and finishing 3 for 4. He is now tied for second in the league with 17 dingers.
Royal's system 6-1 last night
The Royals family of teams went 6-1 on Thursday night. The only loss, a one-run setback, from the lowly Burlington Royals. A team with little offense. The Naturals have been putting up some big scores lately. Why is it that the Wilmington Web-site is far worse and harder to use than all of the other sites for the Royal's farm system? It's cluttered and hard to find information about each game.
with nothing to do on an off day...
looking at minor league results to see blake johnson's not-so-good start for AA NW-Arkansas
| 6.0ip | 7hits | 4r | 4er | 3bbs | 3ks | 4.29era |
but it reminded me of one of Moore's first trades
As quoted from our boy Will
"Wow. Just a completely random move from the Royals, as Dayton Moore grabs a former Brave in the 29 year old Perez (4-4, 6.83 ERA).
Royals Get: Odalis Perez, Blake Johnson and Julio Pimentel
Dodgers Get: Elmer Dessens"
Looking back now it seems like Moore got the best of this trade.
Johnson and Pimentel have potential and Perez...although scary at times was at least serviceable. Dessens is now with the Pirates. Perez is the Nat's "ace" and we have two prospects.
latin america scouting
according to this story from ESPN http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3433834 the draft isn't over. This "draft" includes the next Miguel Cabrera and Pedro Martinez. One scouts say that top three or four talents in this draft "would [challenge] the first selection if they were eligible for the American draft this year; I have no doubt about that," according to one AL exec.
Maybe we'll get to see how well GMDM's stepped up the scouting efforts in Latin America if we sign any of these fellas. Seems like an even bigger risk than signing high schoolers is signing 16-year-old LAs but maybe even more "upside".
Has this been on our radar before? I don't remember the Royals picking up guys like this in the past.
