Pitcher Win Values on FanGraphs

They're on the player pages.  They'll be on the leaderboards and team pages soon enough.

They're FIP-based, just to annoy Graham.  They're not perfect, as we'll talk about when I go through the calculations during the upcoming week.  But they're pretty good and lots of fun.

So, check them out.  Most of your questions will probably be answered in the posts I'm doing for FanGraphs this week, but if you have specific questions that you want to see covered that you think I might not think of, feel free to ask them here.  We'll cover as much as we can.

WAR data on FanGraphs

It's up on the player pages going back to 2002, as well as dollar values for each season based on the marginal $/win rates that teams were paying for that year.

For instance, Albert Pujols was worth +9 wins and $40.5 million last year.  He's good.

David will have the data up on the leaderboards/team pages later this week, and we'll be adding pitching WAR in the not too distant future.

USSM/LL Event Info

If you have signed up for The Gathering as you weirdos over here are calling it, and you did not receive the information email I sent out tonight, cruise on over to the #1 Mariner blog around, ussmariner.com, and put a comment up in the thread that I just put up about the Saturday event.  One of the moderators will forward the event info email to you while I travel tomorrow, and that is the best place to get questions answered while I'm out of the loop on my way back to Seattle.

And, really, if you're sitting there thinking about coming but aren't sure if its worth $20, just trust me, it's going to be worth $20.  The Q&A guests are great, and it's going to be a chance to get information that fans just aren't given access to on a regular basis.  In all the years of hosting these things, I've only had one or two people say they were dissatisfied afterwards, and one of those was a punk who was just there for the all you can eat pizza.  You can blame him for the fact that we're not serving pizza.

Anyway, we've got a few spots left thanks to last minute cancellations, so fire off an email to ussmarinerfeed@gmail.com or post in the comments at USSM and someone will send you the event info email.

I'm pretty sure this is 75 words.  If it's not, then holy crap is that a stupid rule.

USSM Lives

Really, I have to write 75 words here? Doesn't the title say it all? I mean, how do you expect me to ramble on for 75 words about the fact that our site is back up.

So, instead, I'll just remind everyone that the USSM/LL get together is coming up in about 6 weeks - June 14th at a time and location TBD.  It should be fun.  You should all plan on coming.   Jeff, Derek, and I will be there for sure, and I'd imagine Matthew will try to make it if he's around.  Gomez probably won't be there - I'd bet he has a World of Warcraft meeting or a underground hipster convention to go to or something - but it will be fun anyway.

So, plan on coming.

Am I at 75 words yet? This rule blows.

USSM status update

Hey guys,

We're down, if you haven't noticed.  Unfortunately, I'm not sure when we're going to be live again.  As always, apologies for the server issues.  Hooray for Jeff creating the second best Mariner blog around.  We'll try to get back up soon so you guys don't get inundated by the, err, interesting folks who find us first.

I'll try to keep everyone updated here on LL until we're live again.

And, as a baseball comment, even if there might be reasons why waiting a week could have made some sense, hooray for the organization showing the chutzpah to make some moves and admit that their roster is flawed in April.  Progress sometimes comes in steps.
