The Current State of Finishers in Wrestling
I was just sitting here thinking about the current list of finishing moves in the world of professional wrestling, specifically WWE.
Does it bother anyone else that there is way to many finishers that involve putting an opponent on your shoulders to execute the move.
On the opposite side of it, there are way too many finishers that are just basic moves with no flare to them at all.
Also, throw in how frequently kicking out of a finisher is used today with no real reason.
Has the time of a really effective and original-ish finisher over?
There is a Rich Franklin movie coming.
In the second bit of Rich Franklin news, there is a movie being made based on his story.
On a side note, my wife told me about this. How did she break an MMA related story to me? That is a first.
Rich Franklin is hurt.
Rich released this statement yesterday.
Nick Diaz story???
I cannot help but notice that there has been nothing posted here about the Nick Diaz situation. I am sure most people know about it already but Diaz skipped two UFC press conferences to promote his fight with Georges St. Pierre. He has been replaced by Carlos Condit. This is a news piece that I figured would lead to some great discussion here.
What are your thoughts on the whole situation? Does it have a pro wrestling feel to anyone else?
Enough Already With The Hate
GSP may not have fought the way everyone wanted him to last night... at least not for the last few rounds. He came out with guns blazing and was looking to knockout Jake Shields early. He seemed way too reliant on the overhand right and a successful jab. He still won the last few rounds... even without full vision in his left eye (obvious by the damage he took later in the fight.
People will try to blame GSP and say that if he really couldn't see, that the fight should have been stopped. I might agree with them but it is up to the cageside doctor to make that call (the same one who let a guy continue with an alien growing from his skull in the previous fight).
Don't blame GSP because he didn't to enough to finish the fight, that isn't the point of the competition. It is nice when we see fights finished but we can't be so bloodthirsty that we forget that this is a sport, where the objective is to when the contest. GSP did everything he needed to do to win the contest, even with one eye.
One thing that people seem to be leaving out is that it is hard to blame GSP for Jake Shields looking like a deer in headlights for the whole fight. He knew that something was off and still couldn't do anything to take advantage of it (outside of the punches to the left eye). Blame Jake Shields for not having a better game plan. Blame his corner for not doing a better job.
Matt Riddle out of UFC on Versus 3
It looks like Matt Riddle has pulled out of his fight with Matt Brown due to a hand injury. I wonder who will replace him, if anyone.
UFC DVDs on Netflix
I posted a couple weeks ago about how Netflix now has UFC DVDs available. I received the first one today (UFC 43) and there were several things I noticed:
- The production value has come a long way. It is obvious that there was not as much money to spend on the production as there is now.
- Joe Rogan made mention of all the fighters being only signed to one fight contacts. For all the talk about fighters being cut prematurely these days, at least most get another fight.
- Joe Rogan looks like he was juiced up worse than Josh Barnett.
- Dana White was balding but still had hair. He also had a higher pitched voice back then.
I am sure there are other things that I haven't noticed yet, but still, it is nice to get somewhat caught up on the PPV cards I missed (Started watching PPVs at UFC59).

UFC and Pride on Netflix
I was searching through Netflix the other day to see if they had any MMA content. I was surprised to see that they had the first 12 events and then from i believe it starts back at UFC 43 to current. They also have all the TUF seasons and all of the compilation DVDs also. I haven't looked to far into it but it looks like they have a large selection of Pride DVDs as well. There aren't any available for instant play and I don't foresee them being available that route any time soon with UFC On Demand. It was still awesome to see them on there. I wanted to pass along the info because I hadn't seen anything on here about it yet.

Doctors push to ban MMA in Canada.
I don't have any knowledge on the type of pull the association has, but it can't be good for the sport as it struggles for legitimacy in Canada.
MMA Fans around Lakeland, FL
Hey everyone....
I just moved to the Lakeland, FL area this week and need all the MMA info that anyone local might have.
A couple things I am really interested in:
1. Where are the good places to watch fight broadcasts?
2. Where are the best places to watch live fights?
3. What gyms (MMA and traditional) would you recommend?
I would also like any other info about the area that you want to share (places to hang out an such)
Fedor Tapout Shirt
I was on the Tapout website the other day to see if there were any new signature shirts coming out for the fights this weekend or next weekend. I was somewhat surprised to see that there was a Fedor shirt up on the site. I was even more surprised when I went back a few hours later to send the link to a friend and it was gone. I did a search and found that some sites have pictures of it but when you click the link to go buy it, it takes you to the Clinch Gear shirt that is apparently going to be the actual walk out shirt. I can't help but wonder if Tapout chose to back away because of what happened to RVCA after the last Fedor fight. I know that they would never be banned by the UFC.... but they do have some lucrative contracts with the company. Anyone else notice this?
Pick your walkout music
I have been thinking about posting this for a while now because it is something I find myself thinking about a lot (call me lame if you want). If you were to become a professional fighter, assuming you aren't already, what would your walk out music be? I have been looking at this site since 2007 and cannot really remember seeing any post like this. If this is a repeat of an overused topic, forgive me.

Another view of the Tito/Chuck lying story
I have seen over and over that people are saying they were lied to about Tito and Chuck fighting. There is one thing that is left out. There was never an official announcement that the fight was signed, sealed and delivered. Yeah, they threw some curveballs in there, but there was never anything official put out from the company. Until the time that they announced that Chuck was fighting Rich, they had every right to say Tito was still in the fight, but the UFC never officially said anything. It doesn't matter what was said over twitter by Dana White, Chuck, Tito or anyone else. The only reason we are even talking about this is because it revolves around The Ultimate Fighter, which was taped a few months ago. They have every right to protect the contents of that show, just like the fight results, and even those are more official than the fight announcement.
There is one little thing that covers them even in this case..... "Fight Card Subject to Change".
WEC: UFC's Farm system.
Over the last few month I have been thinking about what Zuffa should do with WEC. I think I have come up with a solution that I don't think anyone has really suggested (I hope). I would suggest that Zuffa switch the focus of the WEC from being a lower weight class organization to being a farm system for the UFC. They would bring back all the weight classes they had before and also introduce the lower classes to the UFC. It would be similar to the farm systems that most major sports currently have.
This would allow for three major things:
- It would allow the younger talent to get experience in a Zuffa owned company to see if they can make it in the UFC without having to rely on other companies to build them up and keep companies like Strikeforce from snatching up the future stars,
- It would allow for older talent that isn't quite on the UFC level to stay in the company and out of the hands of the competitors, allowing Zuffa to still cash in on their investments.
- It would make it easier to fill in holes on injury filled cards in much the same way that MLB will call a player up if needed.
There are always going to be issues that haven't been thought up, things like how contracts work in this model, but I feel that it would be the best option for the WEC. It would be a great way to keep some quality fights on Vs. for free without underpaying the fighters.
NOTE: I am just suggesting this as a plan for WEC as a view from Zuffa's best interest. I am not a 100% UFC only guy.

Poor Frank Trigg can't win anywhere
I was browsing through Buckle's website to see if they had anything good on sale and I stumbled across this. At some point you do have to feel sad for the guy... it has been like that for months, I'm guessing.
Lorenzo Fertitta Talks To Congress.
Two days ago CSPAN 2 showed what I believe was a Congressional Committee meeting on Internet piracy. The particular part I saw had Lorenzo talking about the money that was lost due to internet feeds from UFC 100. He said that they were able to track down over 100 and estimated that $8 million in sales were lost just from the feeds they found. I found three things interesting about this:
1. Lorenzo being the one talking to Congress instead of Dana White.
2. How much bigger could that one ppv have been?
3. How frequently are internet streams used?
Did anyone happen to catch this?
