Double-T Nation Beating Mich St will be bad for Texas Tech

I am strongly against anything that will result in Ruffin McNeil getting this job, and if that means rooting against the Red Raiders on Saturday, so be it.

Anyone remember when Rich Rodriguez left West Virginia and they gave the job to that no-name who'd been with the school forever? What's happened since then? I'm strongly against hiring from within and there's a reason why a guy like McNeil has been a #2 his entire coaching career---because he's not a #1, and that's what this program needs. One game, one win, over an overmatched MSU team with half of their players suspended playing what is essentially a road game proves nothing, no matter how many touchdowns we end up winning by.

We need to make a splash here by hiring the right guy, and that guy is most certainly not a career #2 like Ruffin McNeil. This is one of the top 25 coaching jobs in the country (thanks to Leach) and to simply hand it over to McNeil would be a big mistake. Same goes for Tubberville, Briles, and especially Dykes.

Double-T Nation Chris Peterson to Mississippi St?!?!?!

If this is true, and it appears to be, Meyers needs to go.  This was the one person who could have, in my opinion, come in here if Leach left and kept us from dropping off as a program.

We should have been on the phone with him every day for the last week with the understanding that if Leach leaves he's at the top of our wishlist.

With all of that being said, a good friend of mine called me from Birmingham and said that it's being reported all over the radio that Leach is out of the running for the head coaching job there.  If that's true, I'm happy.  He apparently bombed the interview, or the process of getting one.  You'd think that as as bright as this guy is, he'd know how to interview.  He does know how to coach though.

He's married to TTU whether he wants to be or not.  It's just one of those things where one guy is such a natural fit at one place, he becomes such an unnatural fit everywhere else.  His comfort zone at TTU has allowed him to become a little out of touch with what is expected of a coach at a place like Auburn.  Or maybe he does know and just doesn't care.

Let's hope more jobs don't open soon though.
