UW Dawg Pound 2011 Football Schedule

I was looking at the home schedule and it looks pretty good except for the first two games. I usually always attend the home opener but with Eastern coming in I might not. Hawaii looks pretty lame too. I'm looking forward to Colorado, Oregon and the Apple Cup. I actually renewed both of my Tyee Purple tickets because a coworker stepped up and bought my other ticket. I even bought the parking pass, him and I split it. Now we just have to buy our "separate" Apple Cup tickets. I'm excited for Spring Ball and hopefully the Spring game will have better weather than last year.

Who is coming in early for spring ball and has anyone heard how Tokolahi is doing with his rehab? Thanks and GO DAWGS!!

UW Dawg Pound Purple Power!!

Dawgfans it's time to start thinking "outside the box" to use the much used cliche'. We've all seen what a pumped up student section can do for an athletic contest, the "Dawg Pack" has really stepped up and become a fixture for Husky Basketball. I know there is a comparable Husky Student section for football but why not take that spirit and put it into a "fan section"? The Husky Horseshoe used to have a bit of reputation for getting loud and making a difference in games. When the Husky Defense needed a stop to secure a win and the opposing team was driving towards "the horseshoe", the West Endzone stepped up and helped the Husky D get the job done! So why not embrace that history? Why not make being a part of that "Purple Zone" a special thing? So here it is in a nutshell, make most of that endzone a "Purple Zone" where the only requirement is for you to wear purple and support the Huskies! GO DAWGS!!

UW Dawg Pound The ZONE...this is going to be really cool!

Alright, so there won’t be a major stadium overhaul or even a much needed remodel in the immediate future, but the Washington Huskies have already made some interesting and necessary upgrades for the fans. Finally, Washington is doing some things that will enhance the sport of football from the fans' perspective.
The Zone, or a designated tailgating party area, finally brings Husky football in line with most of the other great programs in the country. It's being brought to Montlake by ISP, in association with the athletic department.

Starting this season, the Huskies will be featuring a designated party area on the practice field just east of the stadium.  Not on the softball field, which is finally going to be finished with lights, but just south of it, on the football/track throw-events practice field.  Bigger than a football field, The Zone is being designed to hold upwards of 10,000 fans, hopefully before and after games. There's a thought that it might be open all day for night games, as will be the case for the first game of the year against LSU.

The Zone won't be open after night games, and won't be open during the games.

"Our intent is to have The Zone open at least three hours before game time," said UW Senior Associate AD O.D. Vincent.

The best thing about it is that it will be free to enter. You will have to go in from the southeast or Waterfront Activities corner (look for a giant inflated football player) and there will be a wide variety of food, drink, flat screen televisions and hospitality tents, including a Big W tent for all ex-players, as well as ones for the Tyee Club, ISP, and any other company or group that wants to reserve a spot for their own tailgating.

Now I fully realize many Husky fans prefer to do their own tailgating, as many have been doing for decades. The Zone is not intended to replace, but rather enhance the pre-game and post-game celebrations.  In fact, they are also going to be running a shuttle service from E-1, provided by Gray Line Tours, so you can finish your parking-lot cocktails, hop on a shuttle bus, and buy one last beer, wine, shot or “Zonetail” to finish off your pre-game before entering the stadium.  Yes, it is true they are going to be selling booze - not in the Stadium, but right next to it. So when the Huskies win, you can let the traffic thin out while. You can throw down a few cool ones and grab a bite before letting your designated driver take you home.

Food options will be provided by The Metropolitan Grill, Anthony's, and the Wing Dome (all part of Consolidated Restaurants), and there will also be a kids play area and a spot for the visiting fans (LSU is expecting to bring thousands). The KJR pre-game and post-game will be broadcast from one stage, while bands will be entertaining on another.

There will not be direct access into the stadium from The Zone, but it will easy to get to your seats because it’s right next door. The team-walk will also go right through this area, making it more exciting for both the players and the fans. This walk had been tried for the past few years, but it has seemed more like a death march than a pre-game rally.  The difference in coaches alone will make this way more exciting for everyone.

After years of semi-neglect, Husky Football has finally gotten the full attention of the athletic administration. Vincent, along with recently hired Andre Riley, (that’s right, the Andre Riley who played receiver and returned punts for the Dawgs from 1986-89) have already started the changes and are keeping the fans’ interest first and foremost in their plans. With only six weeks to go before the opening kickoff, they are really scrambling.

"For us, the Sound Transit is going to have a big impact on our prime tailgating spots starting next year, so we wanted to get a little ahead of that," Vincent said Monday. "We wanted to provide something we think is going to be at least as good as what they had, if not better."

Riley has actually been hired by ISP, the company that holds the multi-media rights to Husky football and basketball. He has already moved into the Don James Center and is running as fast as he did when he led the team in receiving and returning.

Just walking around the stadium on game day will be different.  Ticket window locations have changed.  Most significant is they have almost been entirely removed from the west side or main entrance.  This will allow for greater access to the stadium before and after the games and the ticket operation will be shifted to Bank of America Arena.

Those of you who have traveled the country with Husky football over the years know that schools like Colorado, Nebraska, Ohio State and Michigan all have designated pre-game party areas. Heck, even the Cougars turned their fieldhouse into a beer garden 20 years ago. Washington tried it with the Dempsey Indoor Center, but it really never took off because of the location, and the fact it was inside.

Much of this is being pushed because the University will be losing a big chunk of E-11 and E-12, the south parking lots, after this season due to Sound Transit. That also means losing a lot of traditional tailgating spots. This move is also being pushed, in part because the Fifth Quarter just wasn't cutting it anymore.

"We're going to be taking the activities that were in the Dempsey and moving them outside and improving the whole experience," Vincent said. "Our intent is to be outdoors. The Dempsey was successful for a small niche of our fans, but its location and being indoors is not what people want to do. They like to be outside."

Hospitality tents can be rented and corporate pre-game parties will be held all in the same area. Much of the funding for The Zone comes from ISP, but the commitment of the administration is obvious.

"We just want to give our fans more," Washington Athletic Director Scott Woodward added.

Of course, with season tickets still suffering in a down economy, it is easy to see why they want to encourage and enhance the football game day experience for the fans. That is probably the real driving force but the success of this effort, just like selling tickets, is directly related to winning games.

"The game day experience, we are looking at everything we are doing right now," Vincent said, noting that they are paying very close attention to what the Seahawks, Mariners and Sounders are doing that allows their game day experiences to be so successful. "We want to keep the traditional feel of Husky games - like the siren. We've been on the cutting edge of a lot of things like The Wave. Sark believes that the game itself is just part of the experience. There's also the show, and we want to have as lively of an environment as we possibly can."

Even the opening and introductions to the game are being looked at with this overhaul. Jon Horton and FlyingColours have been given the green light to put together a video package second to none. Included in the ideas that are being thrown out there is a twist on the starting lineups, where the players get to call out their own names - like in the NFL.

None of these ideas are set in stone yet, but it sure does get the mind racing when thinking of the possibilities.

So how cool will it be to party in The Zone before knocking off LSU, a team that nobody expects us to beat? Nobody except the players, the coaches, and the die-hard loyal fans, of course. Note: According to Vincent, UW is right around 40,000 in season ticket sales, and single-game tickets go on sale Monday. That number does not include student tickets.

UW Dawg Pound Craziest (no pun intended crazi) thing that ever happened to you at a Husky Football Game

I attended the Notre Dame game at Husky Stadium in 1995. I was totally jacked to have Notre Dame in the house! My wife and I had moved to new seats that year. We were in the nosebleed section on the North Side. We found out right away that "these Husky fans" didn't appreciate fans getting loud when the other team had the football. We had a few words but I didn't think it was too big of a deal. The Notre Dame game comes up and I was determined to do my part to make as much noise as possible when ND's offense was on the field. On one particular possession, I was stomping my feet and yelling my lungs out. This old lady, who sat to the right of us, stood up and walked over. She positioned herself directly in front of me, standing, while I sat in my seat. She said to me "You are the rudest person I've ever seen in my entire life!" I tried to ignore her, kept watching the game, and kept yelling and stomping. She proceeded to physically pummel me with her binoculars. It was all I could do to fend off her blows, that were directed towards my stomping knees. I took several shots on my elbows before I stood up and told her that she needed to "go back to your seat and sit down!" She finally did, but my wife was so upset that she ran out and got security. The officer came up to our section and motioned the lady to come out to him. That was the last I saw of her. We never saw her again the rest of the season! Needless to say, I requested to move after that fiasco! The people behind us probably thought the whole thing was funny and that I got "what I deserved". It's pretty sad to say that we have Husky Fans who go to the games and think it's somehow rude to make noise and support your team! That's my most bizzare incident at a Husky Football game, what's yours?

The next day I noted the bruising that I had on my knees and elbows. Unreal!

UW Dawg Pound Husky Stadium Continued...

Husky Stadium's future is in the news again. Apparently the committee is kicking around our options, and from what I've read, nothing's changed. So we'll approach the state legislature again and hope that this time they'll approve some kind of funding support. So the obvious question is, if they don't, what do we do next? There are several factors that we have to take into consideration. The first one is this economy, if we proceed now the cost is probably going to be considerably lower. If we wait, costs are surely going to rise and we're going to waste money on maintenance of the crumbling facility. In my mind, you give it one more shot and if the state won't help, you move forward. I know that no one wants to talk about doing this in phases, but we may have no other choice. Focus on the lower bowl first and take the football building out of the equation for now. In order to fund this we need to look at some revenue sources that may not be too popular, like student fees. WSU is doing that and we may have to do the same thing. The best case scenario would be for the state to allow King County to make this decision with the same taxing authority that Safeco and Qwest Field used. I think if they do that, King County will get this thing done.

UW Dawg Pound WSU LOSES MONEY...here's the proof.

http://www2.indystar.com/NCAA_financial_reports/expense_stat/show?school_id=7

Follow this link and you can see for yourself. What neat about the database is you can select whatever school you'd like to check out and get an idea what their financial status is. I've heard with the economy as it is Arizona and a couple other schools are considering cost cutting moves to save money. I may do a bit more research to find out which schools make money. UW used to have the TOP football program in the country as far as profitability. We've since slipped but are still in the top 20.

Murray drafts revenge amendment against WSU football boosters

Posted by Jim Brunner

Sen. Ed Murray, D-Seattle, has made no secret of his contempt for the Washington State University football boosters who have led a loud campaign against $150 million in taxpayer money for a Husky Stadium renovation.

"I think you are launching a provincial and parochial war," Murray told some Cougar alums leading the charge at a public hearing in December.

He warned them they'd be "setting off a bomb" if they continued to try to mess with the UW project.

The Cougar crowd didn't quit, of course. They've bombarded legislators with phone calls and e-mails, and hired a plane to fly around the Capitol dome on Wednesday with a banner reading "No Husky Stadium Bailout Tax!"

All that yowling helped kill Murray's proposal, Substitute Senate Bill 6116, which would have allowed King County to direct some local taxes to the Husky Stadium project (as well as a KeyArena expansion, Safeco Field, arts and low-income housing.)

So today, Murray drafted an amendment he says he'll propose to the state operating budget -- an amendment that would force the WSU boosters to live with the consequences of a no-public-money-for-stadiums philosophy.

The amendment reads:

"No state funds, tuition revenues, or student fees shall be used to pay for the operating expenses of intercollegiate athletic programs at any of the public research universities within the state. Any state funds or tuition revenues currently being used for this purpose shall be used for academic instruction."

That's targeted at WSU's athletic department, which, according to spokesman Bill Stevens, receives about $2 million a year from the university (or about 8 percent of the athletic department budget.)

It also could make trouble for Wazzu's Martin Stadium renovation project, which is being funded in part with student fees of $25 a semester for undergrads. WSU students voted to accept the fees in 2006 to help pay for the stadium.

"I have heard the message loud and clear, state taxes should not be used for sports," Murray told me tonight.

I'm not sure this is really going anywhere, but it should make for some fiery floor speeches if Murray really wants to drive home his point.

As a certain duck once said: "Of course you realize, this means war!"

KING COUNTY PROJECTS FINANCING TASK FORCE

Who recommends if Husky Stadium will receive support from Public Funding for Preservation, Renovation and Serious Maintenance Needs?

The King County Projects Financing Task Force, made up of:

  • Ross Hunter, Representative (District 48)
  • Tracey Eide, Senator (District 30)
  • Sharon Tomiko-Santos, Representative (District 37)
  • Ed Murray, Senator (District 43)
  • Joe Zarelli, Senator (District 18)
  • Glenn Anderson, Representative (District 5)
  • Marty Brown, the Governor’s Office

This Joint Task Force will focus on local financing options for affordable housing, arts, cultural, education, civic center, and restoration, preservation and community development projects within King County.

They will review only existing King County-specific revenue options to fund the options listed above.
These funding options must include, but are not limited to admissions, car rentals, hotel/motel, restaurants, and other sources currently used to pay for the construction, financing and mitigation of Safeco and Quest Fields and financing of the Kingdome debt.

For Husky Stadium to be considered for any Public Funding, this Task Force must recommend the Project to the appropriate Legislative Committee by December 1, 2008.

The decision to use Public money will be made in the 2009 Legislative Session.

The Task Force Study Group expires April 30, 2009.

UW Dawg Pound Husky Stadium Renovation Update, we need to keep emailing!

It’s time to act!

Dawgfans: I contacted John Buller and he informed me that the decision on Husky Stadium was linked to the federal stimulus package. Since that is just about to be approved by President Obama, the decision should start to make progress in the state legislature. We are hoping that the decision is made to defer to King County and the King County Council. We need every DAWGS help in relentlessly emailing the King County Council every week until a decision is made. Below are some quick copy and paste reasons why we need to get this important decision approved. Is there any stadium in the Northwest with as storied a history as Husky Stadium? Not even close it really is a Northwest Icon with no peers! GO DAWGS!!

Tell The HuskyThe battle to get Husky Stadium fixed is now up to us!!

We need to continue to win polls, surveys, blogs, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the minds of our elected officials.

We  must keep contacting our elected officials.

BE RELENTLESS! Use your voice and your e-mail and encourage your Husky friends to do the same.

Some facts:

  • The stadium is old and needs to be fixed.
  • Construction can start in December 2009 and will create 800 living wage jobs and 2,000 other jobs in this budget period.
  • The taxes are King County Only taxes, which are currently being used to pay for pro-stadiums, arts group causes, playfields and other things until 2013 and 2021.
  • These taxes cannot be used for any other purpose and cannot be used to help with the budget deficit.
  • Husky Athletic Facilities are used by over 250,000 people per year for non-athletic events [over 40,000 per year attend graduation and over 22,000 visiting fans traveled from outside our state to watch a football game this year.]
  • Cougar athletics organizations receive over $4.4 million from their upper campus every year -- we are self-funded.

We need to win polls, surveys, bogs, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, the minds of our elected officials.

It’s time to act!
Brandon Burmeister

WashingtonIt’s time to act. State legislators decided that they will most likely allow King County to decide whether or not to give the UW the $150 million they are seeking for the renovation of Husky Stadium. Which means it’s time to do our part a little sooner than we had thought. An article in the Seattle Times today talks about this decision and how the Cougar alumni have already started to lobby against any tax dollars going to the Huskies. Here is the link to the article for those of you have not read it yet, Huskies may play at Qwest Field in 2010.

So how do we get involved? I would suggest reading the article and then finding your Metropolitan King County Council District Representative here. An email or phone call from you stating that you support the renovation of Husky Stadium for a number of reasons: safety, ADA compliance, its significance as a regional asset or any other reason you believe. An email would probably be the most efficient way to get this done. It is important that this email comes from you individually and is not a generic or forwarded email. We need to let them know this is important to us. The Cougars are going to be calling and emailing as much as possible to try to prevent the UW from getting this money so we need to make sure we out number them. Let’s get this done and make our voices heard. We’re 1-0 against the Cougars in 2009, let’s make it 2-0 by bombarding our district representatives with emails and calls that let them know Husky Stadium is important to us.

10 reasons to rebuild Husky Stadium

Tell The Husky1: Husky Stadium is the oldest and largest stadium in the Northwest and deemed one of the 10 best places in the nation to watch football.

2: the Stadium’s lower bowl at age 88 has reached the end of its useful life and is increasingly costly to maintain.
3: the use of public funds to rebuild a public facility is a century old state policy.

4: Husky Stadium falls far short of meeting modern American Disability Act (ADA) standards and needs substantial renovation.

5: the proposed private investment of $150 million would be the largest private donation for any public building in Washington state's history.

6: the public tax sources requested are derived substantially from visitors.  Husky Stadium football attendance by out-of-state visitors provides more tax revenue than the Seahawks at Qwest Field.

7: the tax sources requested are not available until 2013 at the earliest and thus are not available for other operating purposes in the 2009 -- 2011 biennium.

8: current levels of stadium reserved taxes will be retained.  Some taxes would be extended but none would be raised.  These taxes are collected only in King County.

9: the project is currently under design and will be ready for groundbreaking in November 2009.  This would allow completion before Sound Transit is fully engaged in constructing University Station (immediately adjacent to Husky Stadium).

10: economic recovery in Washington state depends on our willingness to invest in job producing permanent improvements.  Renovation of Husky Stadium would be an immediate and large contributor to job creation.

UW Dawg Pound D coordinator hired?

Steve Sarkisian is doing a good job of keeping his search for a defensive coordinator under wraps, but I have it on relatively good information USC defensive coordinator Nick Holt is back in the conversation -- and may actually be negotiating a contract with the University of Washington.

Sarkisian initially asked the former Idaho coach to join him prior to the Rose Bowl and, around Dec. 19, Holt declined the offer. But I'm hearing Holt has apparently changed his mind.

That being said, I have neither talked with Sarkisian, nor received official confirmation.

Here is a link to Holt's bio from USC, where he has spent the last two seasons as the Trojans' defensive coordinator and defensive line coach.

I will continue to track this and relay what I find out.

UW Dawg Pound Misery LOVES company!

Now I know how fans of The Yugo felt.

I've spent the whole season asking why the team is so pathetic, saying that it's time for Crennel and Savage to go and tried to invent new ways to say THEY STINK.

I'm all out of complaints. All out of energy.

Today, the Browns, at home, got beat by THE BENGALS.

The Bengals, who are have Harvard educated Ryan Fitzpatrick and "started the season out of football" Cedric Benson as their QB and RB.

Cedric who?

Cedric Benson. The dude that rolled into Cleveland Browns stadium and ROLLED the Browns for 171 yards on the ground.

Thank God Phil Savage got Corey Williams and Shaun Rogers in the offseason. Could you imagine how bad it could have been if the Browns had lost to the worst team in the division at home behind a 150+ yard performance by a guy that wasn't on a roster to begin the season?

Wait.........

Never mind.

Just when you thought the Browns couldn't sink lower, this day comes along. Remember the Christmas Eve game a few years back when the Steelers came in and manhandled the Browns?

In some ways, this is a worse pre-Christmas present.

You can't even beat the lowly Bengals? A team without it's starting RB and QB and a team that wasn't exactly a powerhouse to begin with?

And NO MORE EXCUSES for this franchise about how they've had a lot of injuries and bad breaks this year.

Joe Flacco from Baltimore was supposed to be the 3rd QB learning behind Smith and Boller entering 2008 and he ends up starting on a Ravens squad that is very likely to hit the postseason.

The Browns plain stink.

Why do they stink?

Because they have a bunch of players that are me-first types collecting paychecks instead of trying to lay it out there and win. They have a confused coaching staff that is generally over their heads most, if not every week. They have a GM who is better at dropping F-Bombs via email than creating a good organization.

Last but not least they have an absentee owner who has let this charade go on way too long because he doesn't seem to care.

Other than that, the team is in great shape.

I get really tired of writing these articles. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy being a part of The OBR and having my articles read by the best fans in the world but I'm running out of ways to say that Lerner, Savage, Crennel and many of the players have fallen and they're not getting up.

Well, this season is the straw that broke my back.

I'd have to say, as illogical as this is going to sound, that I was more excited the year before they returned than I am for the 2009 season coming up.

At that point back in 1998 I didn't even have a football team to watch and hadn't had one for 2 years. I knew that 1999 would be bad because the Browns were coming in as an expansion team but I still felt like a kid at Christmas.

Well, flash forward to actualy Christmas 2008 and I'm looking at a team that has treated me (and you) to a decade of futility, bad management and SPIN, SPIN, SPIN.

I don't think I'd believe Lerner and Savage at this point if they told me that rain was wet.

2009.

Another year where the Browns are going to compete for the Toilet Bowl.

Again.

UW Dawg Pound Jake Locker

I got into a discussion with my wife this evening. I don't know if she had one too many drinks or what, but she started talking about Jake Locker. My wife is a Rams fan and really only knows something about college football because of me and my love for Husky Football. So here's the crux of what she said to me. Jake Locker will never be a good quarterback. He can't throw the ball accurately and therefore will never be a good quarterback. She went on to say that he will never be a starting quarterback in the NFL. She thought that he should immediately switch positions and become, in her mind, a tightend. She doesn't think a quarterback should run the ball at all. She thinks a quarterback should throw the football out of the pocket and the only running he should do is to move around in the pocket to avoid a sack and to buy himself more time to throw the football. She also believes that Jake Locker doesn't really want to be a quarterback or that somehow in his own mind he knows his future is at a different position, like tight end.

I gave my wife my take on Jake Locker. I explained that he is a great athlete. He possesses the size, speed and arm strength that is a God given gift and can't be taught or fabricated. I also informed her that Jake Locker has a greater learning curve for playing the quarterback position because of the fact that the offense he ran in high school was run oriented and was designed to utilize Jake's fabulous running ability. I explained further by comparing Jake Locker to Kellen Moore of Boise State. Kellen Moore, I said, grew up in a football family. His father is the coach of Prosser High School and Prosser runs a sophisticated passing offense which has been tutored to Prosser area kids from Junior High on up through High School. So I explained, Jake Locker is behind the learning curve when it comes to playing the quarterback position. Kellen Moore on the other hand was better prepared and plays the position better, at this point in his career. He also plays in a more refined offensive system and has better talent around him compared to what's available in his league (the WAC). So the jist of my argument was that Jake Locker can play in the NFL as a starting quarterback. I think he will be helped by Coach Sark and better coaching. He can be made into a better passer and his ability to run the football is a valuable commodity in the NFL. He has those physical gifts that Kellen Moore doesn't have and will never have. He's big, strong, fast and has NFL quarterback arm strength. Those are things that can't be taught or trained. I'm not saying for certain that he will play in the NFL. My wife thought he would be, at best, a backup NFL quarterback. She also believes, as I said previously, that he'd have a better chance to be an NFL starter, at a different position. I think it all boils down to Jake and how hard he works to learn the position and to develop his passing skills as well as (and just as importantly) his decision making skills. If he does that he CAN be a starting quarterback in the NFL.

UW Dawg Pound New Dawg logo...

...can we please change the DAWG! We should at least three designs. Choice is good! Hmmm let's see I have to make this 75 words. OK, Do you guys think we should keep the stripes on the helmet? Maybe we should take a look at it without and possibly with just a single purple stripe? I don't think it's a big deal either way, too me the biggest issue is getting away from the beige pants and going to shiny real gold pants that match the helmet gold. The dog logo has to go but maybe the designers need more time to work up some designs. Thoughts? Comments?

UW Dawg Pound Recruiting

It was great to hear Coach Sark has a football operations guy who oversees recruiting and a lot of the day to day organization. Hopefully that will avoid future boondoggles that bit the Willingham era is the ass! Such as having nothing but freshman and RS freshman in the mix at widereceiver as well as the crucial running back position. Further playing true freshman on the defensive line is ridiculous. If you break it down, you have an average of 17 scholarships in each class, granted there are going to things that make this a variable but each class should be balanced to take care of needs, now and in the future.

UW Dawg Pound Coaching news rumors from Condotta

And Scott Wolf of the LA Daily News today has some of the more interesting conjecture in this story.

Wolf quotes Rocky Seto as saying he is not coming to UW and is happy at USC, consistent with what we also reported here last night that he had apparently said he had not talked with Sarkisian yet. Worth noting, however, that with USC having one game left to play, hires off that staff likely wouldn't happen yet.

Wolf, meanwhile, says Sarkisian's top target to be the defensive coordinator may be Louisville's Ron English, who interviewed for the job last year with Tyrone Willingham before it instead went to Ed Donatell.

Here is English's bio. Louisville had a tough season this year going 5-7 and allowing 63 points to Rutgers in its final game.

The Daily News also says that Demetrice Martin, a former USC assistant now at Mt. San Antonio College, is a candidate to be the new secondary coach. Here is Martin's bio.

There is also a rumor making the rounds that a member of the USC strength staff, Ivan Lewis, could be coming to UW as a strength coach.

UW Dawg Pound USC Assistants?...Ucla's D coordinator

Who do you think the likely candidates are that Sark will bring from USC? I read somewhere that he has already contacted Ucla's defensive coordinator.

I imagine they would be guys that would make a jump up if they leave. Like going from a Line backer coach to a defensive coordinator. I think Ken Norton is one name that's been mentioned. Who do you guys think are most likely to be retained by Coach Sark? The coach from Skyline maybe? Chris Tormey?

UW Dawg Pound Sark's fired up and happy to be THE MAN!

He was holding off on doing much talking with reporters until Monday's press conference to formally introduce him, but did tell Percy Allen of the Times that "I'm excited to be here. It's awesome.'' He is apparently expected to meet with players for the first time on Monday morning before he is formally introduced at 9:30 a.m. This posted from Bob Condotta's blog in the Seattle Times.

Great to see this guy's enthusiasm! A really refreshing change from the stoic one!

UW Dawg Pound Recruiting

Listening to Kyle Whittingham on KJR he stated that in his opinion 80% of being a successful head coach in college football today was based on recruiting. My question is how do you think Coach Sark will do in this critical area? Obviously he's got a big time advantage in the fact that he's recruited Socal over the last 6 or 7 years. What other areas did he recruit and would it be smart to retain a coach like Tormey who being the recruiting coordinator probably knows the state of Washington better than any of the other current Husky coaches.

UW Dawg Pound Tennessee now fired defensive coordinator

My buddy was telling me that this guy is "top notch" and the Tennessee fans absolutely wanted to retain this guy. I'll post his name when I can find it but thought he should get serious consideration from Coach Sark!If any one knows his name feel free to post it in the reply. I'll also try to dig up some data on his defenses at Tennessee and any other important bio information that I can find...again feel free to chip in on this.

UW Dawg Pound Another Candidate?

And here's a new name I've heard in connection with the search --- Oklahoma associate head coach and defensive coordinator Brent Venables. If there's a mystery candidate, maybe it's him. I have been told by two different sources that it is thought he has interviewed for the job. One said he has, another said it's likely he has.

UW Dawg Pound Cougs Attack Husky Stadium Proposal

Cougs Attack Husky Stadium Proposal

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2008457886_convention02m.html

I believe oregon’s new 200 million dollar basketball stadium is funded by tax dollars. I think the state also kicked in for osu’s football stadium upgrade. That is where we’re at folks. We live in a state with more money and can’t even finance half of a “renovation”. This is still going to be Husky Stadium with a lot of what is there just being dressed up. I think the lower bowl will be completely replaced and I would have to think that the south side will be seriously worked over. I think that was added on to in like 1958.

It’s apparently OK for billionaire owners of professional sports teams to get palatial stadiums built for their teams but public universities who generate huge amounts of tax money get nothing. I don’t have a good feeling about this. Hence I want to know what the fall back plan is?
