Big Blue View Oh "experts" you have done it again...

So today I came across this video on nfl.com (here is the link), and they were talking about the 2011 outlook for the Giants, specifically their needs.  Of course one of the "experts" immediately put their foot in their mouth (insert Rex Ryan joke anyone?) by saying

"Their safeties don't make plays in space and their corners are not man to man players."

Obviously both of those statements are false.  Rolle made plenty of plays in space against the run, but it was in coverage where he had most of his issues.  As for Kenny, he played so far off the line of scrimage that he did not have much of a chance to make impact plays.  Also, as most of us here know that our corners ARE man to man players, but they weren't utilized that way for much of the season, so get your facts straight you turd.

Warren Sapp then went on to say that they need a receiver.  Referring to Eli he said

"He needs that one big play guy.."

Really Warren Sapp, really??  His name is Hakeem Nicks.  Go look at his play this past season and I dare you to tell me he wasn't that "explosive" number 1 receiver-type guy.  At least one of the analysyts redemmed himself somewhat by saying

"Theres a lot of run and shoot concepts in the offense that the QB gets blamed for that maybe he's not on the same page with his receiver."

Your thoughts?

Big Blue View Hakeem the Dream

ESPN New York had an interesting article today about our very own Hakeem Nicks.  Here is the link: best receiver?  The article talks about how Nicks is quickly becoming one of the best receivers in the NFL.  Now I know its way too early to start comparing Nicks to Andre Johnson and the likes, but one can definitely see that the talent and potential is there.  I think Nicks has to be a little more consistent with his hands because he has dropped quite a few passes this year.  Then again, he comes up with some pretty amazing catches at times (see Sundays game vs the Bears).  He's a precise route runner, with big play potential.  He may not have the 4.40 speed that Al Davis covets, but as we all know that is not what makes a great receiver in the NFL, as evidenced by the fact that thus far in his career he is averaging 15.7 yards per reception: yeah I would say that defines a big play receiver. As far as I can see, there are no glaring weaknesses in his game.  It also doesn't hurt that he's got one of the top QBs in the game that will be getting him the ball for years to come.  Time will only help him become more consistent and evolve into one of the best in the game, at least that it is my opinion.

So what do you guys think?

Big Blue View Antonio Pierce and former Giants turned analysts

As I'm sure many of you know, Antonio Pierce is now an analyst for ESPN.  On NFL Live today, Pierce was asked who would win the division and he said the Washington Foreskins..I mean Redskins.  It seems like the Giants can't get any respect, even from their former players.  I remember a few seasons back Michael Strahan's pick for the Super Bowl was the Cowboys.  Now the question is, do you think Pierce and guys like Strahan do this on purpose just to keep the "we get no respect" angle going for the Giants?

Why do former Giants, now turned analysts, give no credit to the Giants?
To keep the "we get no respect" angle going

They are just giving their honest opinion and doing their job

Once anyone becomes an analyst, they immediately have no clue as to what they are talking about.

Big Blue View More reasons to bash Mel Kiper

So Kiper continues to prove he doesn't know what the hell he is talking about.  On ESPN's "On the Clock" segments where they analyze every team's draft needs, Kiper basically stated that Eli is not good enough to carry an offense.  "Eli Manning can he carry a team throwing the football?  I don't think so."  In response to that, all I can say is the Giants merely averaged 25.1 points per game, which was 8th best in the league.  All us Giants fans know that the running game was not nearly as effective as it has been, and much of the credit should go to Eli and the receivers.  I mean he only threw for 4,021 yards and 27 TDs.  It is pretty amazing how these so called "experts" clearly have no clue.  I understand that Eli will always have his critics and people will continue to bash the guy no matter what he does, but give the guy credit for what he did this year, and the fact that he does have a super bowl ring...
