Cowboy and Madden Fans Respond!
Here are the preliminary ratings for rookies drafted round 1 through 3. Apparently Madden developers are (foolishly) allowing fans to help them arrive at the launched product ratings. While fans of every team, I'm sure, will respond with homeristic ratings, here is your opportunity. Personally, the only change I would make is to Sean Lee's agility which, as of now, is less than DT Lamarr Houston. Guy ran a sub 7 second 3 cone drill, he has pretty good agility.
Draftees you love, but believe the Cowboys don't
The writers on this blog do an excellent job of analysis and evaluation. The recent draft series by Raf have been very thorough and provide a rational enough reason to put credence into what he projects to be players, or player types, that the team would value. Or not value. I've been a draftnik for many years. I recall skipping school during the mid-1980's every year when the draft was held on Wednesdays. After a year or two mom caught on and I didn't even have to fake sickness, she'd just call the school and lie for me. Every year I create draft lists and gets some hits and many more misses. In that light, I'd like to present a list of players I am high on at their expected draft slots and whom are not likely to be on the Cowboys radar. Please share your own if you wish.
If the Cowboys keep their pick in the 1st round, I honestly do not have any players that intrigue me which I have reason to believe are not on the Cowboys' draft list. I only have concern they will reach for a player.
In the 2nd round, especially late, I think Dexter McCluster is going to make the team that drafts him very happy. As an unpolished receiver, the guy has already shown work at perfecting his craft by executing double moves on corners in the Senior Bowl practices. What really stand out to me is the following, from NFL DraftScout..
"After the catch: Elusive and has the acceleration and top-end speed to run away from defenders if he gets in the open field. Good vision and sets up his blocks nicely with the ability to burst through a small gap. Versatile threat capable of contributing as a runner, receiver and returner." He's smaller than the Cowboys like at receiver and it could very well be that they envision using Felix Jones more in a similar capacity as a slot receiver.
My top target at the end of round 3 would be CB Myron Lewis. The expectation is that he moves to free safety in the NFL. Though a few mock draft had ticketed Lewis for the Cowboys, I have not seen a reference to any interest by the team in print. One knock on Lewis is his hips are a little too tight to remain at CB. Again citing NFL DraftScout, here are some qualities that stand out for me.... "Has a penchant for making the big play in big games." "Active in run support. Reads run quickly and fights through receiver blocks. Agile enough to avoid oncoming linemen and is willing to take on blockers. Reliable open-field tackler who flashes big-hitting ability."
In the 4th round, I am locked into Tony Washington. I have to think that the Cowboys would have interest despite his controversial past. Beyond Washington, I don't have anyone I think is a great pick that Dallas would pass on because of type.
6th round and beyond, here are some quick hits of prospects that may not size up for the Cowboys, but I believe should be given a look:
DT Nate Collins - Double dipping on the undersized NT is probably not likely, but, Collins has experience playing NT in college in Al Groh's 3-4 and also DE. NFL DraftScout
TE Fendi Onobun - If there were room to keep a developmental TE on the roster, this would be a worthwhile gamble because the guy has freakish athleticism for his size. NFL DraftScout
Well, that's my list. What's yours?
