What monta has done this summer. Warriors Blog
Monta Ellis interacted with kids at the ME8Foundation Community Picnic and School Supply Giveaway in Jackson, Miss., on Saturday. (ME8Foundation Photo)
Monta Ellis has been flying under the radar this summer, and that’s the way the Warriors guard wants it. For the most part, Ellis has enjoyed a quiet summer at home with his family, far from the national spotlight.
That’s not to say that it has been an uneventful summer for the Warriors guard. Quite the contrary, actually. Ellis was married at the end of July and he continues to do what he loves most – being a dad to 14-month-old Monta Jr.
Warriors fans have seen Ellis mature over his five-year career in the NBA from a fresh-faced 19-year-old to the man that he is today. And being a father has brought out a nurturing side of the Warriors playmaker that fans don’t usually see during interviews immediately after an intense game or practice. Behind the scenes at Oracle Arena and removed from the crowds, Ellis is often seen holding his son or playing with him hours before or after a contest.
Along with being committed to his family, Monta has always been committed to giving back to his community. This summer he launched the ME8Foundation, which serves to "strengthen the fabric of our community through philanthropic gifts in the areas of public service, education, preventive health, community development as well as broadening the awareness of issues that plague our community." Specifically, Ellis’ foundation will create opportunities for underprivileged kids and contribute funds for medical research.
On Saturday, Ellis was at a park in his native Jackson, Miss., for the ME8Foundation Community Picnic and School Supply Giveaway. In addition to providing kids with barbecue and supplies for the upcoming school year, Ellis also made a contribution to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research. One night earlier, on Friday, Monta made a $5,000 donation to Jackson State University to establish a scholarship that will assist a Lanier High School graduate in attending Jackson State. For more on Ellis' charitable contributions, check out this story from The Clarion-Ledger (daily newspaper in Jackson).

With his foundation, wife and son, Ellis has definitely kept busy this summer off the court, but he’s also found time to work on his game. Assistant Coach Stephen Silas traveled to Memphis earlier this summer to conduct individual workouts with Monta, who splits his summers between Tennessee and Mississippi.
Ellis will certainly be ready for training camp in a month and a half, but until then he will continue to be happy to remain out of the spotlight.

Ronnie Brewer signs a 3 year 12 million deal with the bulls
Bulls add third ex-Jazz player, sign Brewer
NBA sources confirmed on Friday a Bulls.com report that the team has agreed to terms with free agent guard Ronnie Brewer on a three-year, $12.5 million deal.
Chicago moved quickly to secure Brewer, who was being pursued by several teams, after the Orlando Magic matched Chicago's three-year, $20 million offer sheet on guard J.J. Redick earlier Friday.
Comcast Sportsnet is saying we only got a $2.6 million trade exception
Now I'm confused, GSOM was saying that we got $4 million and now Comcast is saying $2.6 million.

Did Shaq steal Steve Nash's idea?
I don't want to start any unsubstantiated rumors here, but I think Shaquille O'Neal(notes) stole that panda from Steve Nash(notes).
It's just a guess, but in the dark of night, "The Big Ninja," armed with wire cutters and bamboo, broke into Nash's Exotic Zoo Farm and Emporium and snatched poor, petrified Lin Ding from her cage. I think he might have stolen Steve's blue shower curtain, too. I don't know, I'm not a doctor.
Why the suspicion? Well, according to the Arizona Republic, the Cavalier center's new reality show, "Shaq Vs." apparently was an idea that Shaq stole directly from Nash.
Shortly after O'Neal was traded to the Suns in February 2008, Nash mentioned to his new teammate a reality show he was pursuing. It would feature the Suns point guard taking on professional athletes in their own sport.
The topic didn't come up again until early in the 2008-09 season, when O'Neal boarded the Suns bus and told the team he would be starring in a new reality show in which he would be taking on, you got it, professional athletes in their own sport.
"You mean the idea you stole from me?" one Suns representative said he heard Nash say.
According to the paper, Nash eventually sought out an entertainment lawyer (Bob Loblaw), which is why he now has an executive-producer credit and the fat compensation that comes with it.
The other twist to this ridiculous whodunit is that Shaq is already being sued by author Todd Gallagher who says that the show was swiped from his book, "Andy Roddick Beat Me with a Frying Pan," in which Gallagher competed in sports events against professional athletes who handicapped their games.
Of course, this makes one wonder if Nash, in fact, stole his idea from Gallagher and whether or not that panda is even his. Do we know if Roddick is missing any endangered species? Ace, look into that, will ya?

An interesting comment from Talking Points involving Carlos Bozzer to the Warriors.
I saw this comment from someone on Tim Kawakami's Talking Points and the person said this,
"Warriors are going after Carlos Boozer. A package of Biedrins and the expiring contracts of Law, George, and Claxton, save salary space of almost 6 million for the Jazz who are looking to cut salary but still get something for Boozer."
Now even though he could be or could not be an nba source or a team source he has a good point and a while back Atma Brother One posted the rumor of us interested in Carlos Boozer, but Ric Bucher said via twitter "The Warriors are after Boozer. But all they have to offer are big, long contracts. Utah wants financial relief, not more pain." So with all these expiring contracts we have to offer it would save 6 million in cap space for the Jazz and that's what Ric said.
Hornets and Bobcats verbally agree to trade
Persons familiar with the deal say the Charlotte Bobcats are finalizing a trade that would send Emeka Okafor(notes) to the New Orleans Hornets for Tyson Chandler(notes).
The swap of centers could be completed later Monday, two people told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because an official announcement has not been made.
The Bobcats will be giving up the only starting center in franchise history for Chandler, who has been plagued by a left toe injury. Chandler played in only 32 games last season and a trade to Oklahoma City was rescinded because of concerns over the injury.
The deal comes less than a year after Okafor signed a six-year, $72 million deal with the Bobcats.
AP Sports Writer Brett Martel contributed to this report.
Great Portland close to maybe signing
David Lee!
"The New York Knicks have made a five-year contract proposal to forward David Lee(notes), but could pull back the offer next week, the New York Post reported.
Lee's agent is still hoping the Portland Trail Blazers make him an offer to boost his leverage, but if that doesn't happen Lee could be stuck with the Knicks' offer."
If they get him it's worse for us because another good Western Conference team is getting even better. I have noticed we haven't lost to Portland at home since the 04-05 season! With a lot of free agents going, staying, or close to going to the Eastern Conference it helps us out even more because the West is our conference and now with all the injuries to the West or Free Agents leaving the West it hepls us for our playoff chances. I hope David Lee stays in the Eastern conference!!
09-10 our season! LETS GO!!
Matt Steinmetz says with Rasheed Wallace Celtics are the NBA's best team.
I know I'm kind of late on this whole Rasheed going to the Celtics
but are the Celtics really the best team with him? The Eastern conference really got stronger with Shaq going to the Cavs, Vince Carter, Brandon Bass, and maybe CJ going to the Magic, and this. I would say the Orlando Magic are probably the best team or tied With the Lakers
Is Matt right?
Thunder waive Earl Watson
"The Oklahoma City Thunder have waived guard Earl Watson."
Would anybody be interested in him ? Maybe us?
I personally think we should sign Andre Miller to a Mid-Level Exception. That would be awesome!
