No more Old Style?
I read something last night regarding the Cubs and Wrigley Field severing their ties with Old Style. Now, I understand that not everyone is a huge fan of Old Style beer, however, regardless of your thoughts Old Style and Wrigley Field have gone hand in hand ever since I can remember.
From what I've found online this is only a rumor at this point. A link one story that I found regarding this is here
I figure if anyone has heard anything else regarding this it would be my fellow friends on BCB. So....anyone? Bueller?
290 Traffic
I'm going to the game tomorrow night and was wondering if anyone has had issues with getting down to the UC from the Northwest suburbs due to the new construction on 290. Luckily I'm leaving work early so I plan on leaving in the mid afternoon, but if anyone as any alternate routes they are willing to share I'd love to hear em!
Go Hawks! Only a few more to go until the run for the promised land!
'O Lang, Where Art Thou?
While updating my fantasy hockey team I noticed that Robert Lang (yeah the same Robert Lang we traded in September for ONLY a 2nd round draft pick) is currently leading the Canadiens with 36 points. To add to that he has 11 points (5 goals and 6 assists) in his last seven games.
I just wanted to point that out and share with the group, cause it slightly pisses me off. Especially after being at last nights horrendous demonstration at the UC.
Kaner to play tonight?
I heard this on ESPN Radio just a little bit ago when earlier this morning he was day-to-day. I think they should rest him again and let the boys pick up his slack (if there is any!). Why not rest him another day just to be sure so he can be ready to go this weekend for back to back games against division rival Nashville? I think the guys can handle Colorado without him.
Winter "Ripoff" Classic
Below is the seating and pricing chart that has been set up for the Winter Classic at Wrigley Field. Interesting to note that the upper deck is the most expensive seats in the house. Makes sense though since it will have the best view of the entire ice. You won't be able to see anything in the bleachers, unless maybe you're lucky enough to get the higher up seats.
Now, I'm a cubs fan and love the idea of hockey at Wrigley but in all reality they should have done this at Soldier Field. I think I'll be watching this in my warm house, hungover on my couch, in beautiful high definition as opposed to paying these insane prices. $325 can buy me a lot of regular season home games at the UC.
SAVARD FIRED
ESPN is reporting this morning that they fired Savvy. I didn't believe it either but check it out for yourself here
I figured he wouldn't last the season but after just 4 games AND coming off our first win is a bit mysterious to me.
Perhaps this will open the door for Scotty Bowman to help lead us to the promised land but who knows. These guys needed a spark and maybe this is it.
World Series Tickets Printed?
Feel free to delete this post if someone has posted it already but according to this site they claim that the World Series tickets have been printed. Not being a season ticket holder (and probably won't be for many years to come I'm not sure if this is a regular thing that teams do). I must admit it gave me goose bumps just to see our fellow Cubbies on a ticket of such magnitude. Had to share this with the class.
Edzo
I went to Buffalo Wild Wings on Rt. 59 by the Sears Center last night to meet Eddie Olczyk. Surprisingly I was the only one wearing my Hawks jersey and even though the place got pretty crowded it was more for the Sox and Cubs games than to see Edzo.
He was a really nice guy though and was more than willing to take a picture and sign what I brought. Has anyone else been to any of the other BWW to meet him or any of the other player apprearances and had the same result? After selling out a preseason game and with all the hype for the season, I would have thought more people would have come out.
Scotty Bowman to be named Senior Advisor
The Blackhawks are holding a press conference at the UC today at 2pm. Check out the details here
Scotty Bowman is a 9-time Stanley Cup Winner. I love the moves this team is making on the ice and off! The season can't come soon enough!
11 days till single game seats go onsale, who here plans on going to the home opener? I heard season tickets have tripled from last years sales already!
New Affiliate Fresno Falcons
Hawks entered into new affiliation with the Fresno Falcons. Read it about it on the Falcons website here and/or the Hawks website here
To be honest, after looking at this league (ECHL) I wasn't aware that there was a AA hockey affiliate of the NHL. Maybe someone can explain to me how it works that for some teams there are 2 NHL affiliate teams. How do they divide up the players and decide who goes where.
I know this isn't breaking news but I figured we needed a little jolt to keep us goin here in this offseason.
Preseason Tickets
This may seem like a minor complaint but while we wait (which seems like an extremely long time) for the NHL to release the 08-09 schedule does it seem right that the Hawks continue to sell their preseason seats for the same amount as the regular season seats? It just doesn't make sense to me.
I would be much more inclined to go to a game if the tickets were, say, half price for preseason. I think it makes more sense and would also fill the place a bit more for games that don't count anyway.
Pat Foley Returns!
They're holding a press conference today at 2pm. I can't explain how excited I am to have him back in the booth!!! Just one more thing to be excited about for this upcoming season.
By the way who is the one running this site and where are all the loyal Hawks fans? Lets start getting updates and talk for this season going! Its going to be a great year for hockey in Chicago at last!!!!
OT: Disturbed Frontman Impersonates Harry Carey
You've been warned...This quite possibly the worst impersonation attempt I've ever seen and for some reason I felt the need to post this just so others can share in my disgust. I wonder if David Draiman has ever even watched a Cubs game before, even though band does come from Chicago, that makes this even worse. And why Sosa of all players???
