Over the Monster A few questions for you out-of-state Sox fans....

My parents live in New Jersey and they are both Red Sox fans. They want to watch Red Sox games in New Jersey. They used to buy the Extra Innings package through Comcast, but considering how expensive it is and how little they watch other games aside from the Red Sox ones, renewing the package is not in their best interest.

So I was wondering, what would be the most cost effective solution for them? Should he buy an MLB.tv account so he can watch games on his laptop (and connect the laptop to the TV so he can watch it on the big screen)? Should he buy JUST the MLB channel? Does MLB.tv carry all games or just select ones like MLB channel? What would you do?

So far, I told my father to look into getting an MLB.tv account so he can watch the games on his laptop and connect that to his TV via HDMI or on his iPhone. I'm just worried MLB.tv won't have him covered for all Red Sox games.

Thanks in advance for all of the helpful advice.

Stanley Cup of Chowder Who would you like to see the Bruins draft in 2011?

I know, I know. It's still early. The playoffs haven't even started yet and we don't even the Bruins' draft position until the lottery balls start rolling this summer. Regardless, I'm curious to see who you would like to see the Bruins draft this summer. I'm not asking who do you think they will draft or anything like that since we don't know any specifics of what pick we are getting. I'm simply asking what rookie you would like to see in a B's sweater this summer.

Personally, I'd love to see the Bruins get Ryan Murphy. He put up some pretty big numbers this year in the OHL with the Kitchener Rangers (26-53-79 in 63 games played). We could obviously use a young offensive defenseman in our system. Who would you pick if you can choose any prospect?

Stanley Cup of Chowder Are hockey goalies the most important position in all of sports?

I was listening to DnC this morning and they were discussing whether or not Tom Brady is the best athlete in Boston sports history. It wound up coming down to Larry Bird vs. Brady. A few callers mentioned Bobby Orr (which I agreed with) but they didn't really discuss Orr as much as they did Bird.

At one point, Gerry Callahan said something like "It's gotta be Brady, especially because the position of Quarterback is the most important position in all of sports.". Initially, I agreed but then I started thinking "Well what about hockey?" I think goaltending is just as, if not more important than QB. After giving it some thought, I decided that yes, the position of goaltender is the most important position of all the 4 major sports.

After remembering that Trent Dilfer winning a Super Bowl with his outstanding Ravens defense and throwing only 1 TD pass himself, I decided that a good goalie is more important to an NHL team than a good QB is to a good NFL team. I don't have time to do some research into how many Stanley Cup winning teams have had an outstanding goalie (I'm at work!), but I can say with confidence that at least 80% of Stanley Cup Champions have had a goalie that carried the team at some point during the playoffs or season.

It's close, but again, I believe goaltending is essential to a successful hockey team more so than a good QB is essential to a good football team..

What do you guys think? Are goalies the most important position in all of sports? Try to be subjective.

Stanley Cup of Chowder Bruins chant in NHL 11

I just realized a few days ago I've never posted one of these, so I figured I'll give it a go by posting something that has almost nothing to do with the Boston Bruins.

I'm assuming a few of you out there have NHL 11. I've been playing a Bruins season for a while now and recently just realized something strange. I was in the middle of playing a game at the faux "Boston Bruins Arena" and the crowd starting cheering "Let's go Celtics!" (or something that sounds similar).

What I'm getting at here is, what the hell is the crowd chanting in NHL 11? Let's go Boston? Regardless, it sure doesn't sound like the "Let's go Bruins" chant that we all love (or loathe, depending on who you are). Can anyone figure out what they are saying?

Thanks in advance.
