So the Spurs didn't pick up the option on James Anderson. Very unimpressive numbers, but he was a popular candidate for the Babbit/Webster pick in 2010. Anyone still interested, or is he just another below-average wing?
NBA reopening open thread
I was thinking that with all the attention given to the CP3 fiasco (with good reason), a lot of other transactions haven't been covered by ESPN, etc. So this is an attempt to pool the notable (and not so notable) signings, trades, amnesties, etc from the first day of business. What I've found so far follows the jump:

DISCUSSION! (plus poll!) When do we get to stop talking about the Kahn/Adelman feud/bromance?
No offense intended to HKayden who just posted a nice breakdown of the facts as we know them and their potential implications. For those still interested in contributing fresh insights to the discussion, by all means, go visit his thread and post away. For everyone else, it's time for a... (excuse me as I ramble my way to seventy five words...ramble, ramble, ramble)... POLL!!!!
(no? okay, we'll try this again...)
It's TIME for a POLL!!!!!!!

As the dust settles...
So we came into the draft with gaping holes at SG and C, and apparently leave the draft with those same deficiencies. But the night was a huge success on several levels.
Where do we go from here?
Blame it on the sick wife and sleeping child, who are shutting down the wild whooping and champagne showers in this particular corner of Rubio Nation. But the five minutes of celebration are over, and it's time to talk about what has to happen from here on out to make this a successful offseason. I'm going to go ahead and say that the Rubio signing (God, that feels good to type) isn't enough, since it's merely the culmination of a 2009 transaction. I'll outline my personal ideas below the jump, but let's talk about who to target in the draft, trade market, free agency, etc., with the obvious caveat that nobody knows how the CBA will shake out. In short, how can Kahn make this signing really, truly matter?
Thunder extend Perkins sight unseen
Color me surprised. For a team that was so careful / panicky about the Tyson Chandler trade a couple years back, it's notable that they're extending Perk before he even sees the floor for the team. You can argue it's a risk worth taking, but even injuries aside, I would've thought they'd want to see if he fits as well on the court as he does on paper. Not sure what the hurry was on this one...
Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Pups
First off, a big thank you to Lauren Lang and everyone else on the marketing side of things over in Timberwolf land for some very nice seats to tonight's game, plus a pass to the post-game press conference with Rambis. Ms. Lang was persistent in trying to get me through the doors despite a series of schedule conflicts (definitely my loss, as two of the games I had to pass on were the best two of the season - the win over the Hornets and the near miss v. the Thunder) and I truly appreciate her patience. I figure the proper trade off for a lurker / rare-poster like me is a full fanpost recounting the night.
I don't have the photoshop skills, but picture, if you will, as the lead graphic, Rambis riding a warhead with the Wolves' logo on the side. And........JUMP!

Knicks want Melo and need help...
according to ESPN, the Knicks are close to landing Melo for a package built around A. Randolph and Gallinari. They've also agreed to trade one of the two for a first to send along to Denver, with Denver getting the other. Here's the point: Denver and New York need a third party. Can we take advantage of this situation?
"Utah introduces versatile new addition Jefferson"
So reads the article title on my ESPN widget. I clicked on it, wondering if maybe Utah had signed Richard Jefferson or something. I mean, Al is certainly a new addition, but I would have offered you maybe 700 adjectives before getting to "versatile."
Rudy wants to play with Rubio
Come on, Kahn, let's oblige him.
Haslem's staying put
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5374210
Dallas and Denver struck out. Expect the offers for Al to get a bit more interesting, as free agent possibilities are seriously drying up.
As for the Heat, they're already putting together a much better supporting cast than I thought they'd be able to. Big 3 plus Chalmers, Miller, Haslem, Joel Anthony. I wasn't going to crown them yet (if Orlando doesn't match the offer for Redick, I actually prefer Chicago's roster), but I might have to change my tune if they land Fisher.
Honestly, I think the higher-than-expected cap figure is going to fuel the conspiracy theorists - i.e. Stern saw that Miami was going to have to play each of the big 3 40+ minutes per night, and foresaw either injuries or an empty tank come playoff time. Presto! More cap space to let them add some rotation-worthy talent, and the biggest story in the NBA doesn't flame out in January.
Yahoo report Re: Sessions, Ridnour, Livingston
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AqnQtfzCR6OphlG24Wr6oE28vLYF?slug=ys-freeagentbuzz071110
Word is we're trying to dump Sessions for cap space, then sign Ridnour for a Sessions-like deal. Woj also says we're interested in Shaun Livingston. I'd take a flier on Livingston (who can play the 1, 2 or 3), but I'm not sure chasing Ridnour is worth the effort, considering he won't be any better than a 3rd point when Rubio comes over. Of course, it may be that our interest sheds some unwanted light on the reality of Rubio's future. In any case, cue another wave of articles / blog posts / Simmons rants about Kahn's point guard fetish.
Lee's agent's optimistic take on the MN meeting
Article after the jump.
I'll post my thoughts in the comments and let this speak for itself. Suffice it to say that while I like Lee just fine, it's starting to look like Love is following Al out the door. It'll be an interesting week or two to say the least.
The thread for solutions to Black Tuesday...
There's already several threads for rage and fury. Here's one for rational thought. (Maybe too soon, I know.)
It's probably a given that Kahn will do all he can to get the #2 spot from Philly. Also a given that we'll have to overpay. How much is the upgrade from Cousins to Turner worth to us? Is there a scenario where Philly parts with the #2 without us giving up the #4? Do we even see value in that, assuming the Nets will prefer Favors to Cousins (I admit I'm not a huge Cousins guy)?
I don't see PHI salivating at either anyone on our roster. Maybe Rubio would interest them. And they may try to stick us with Brand's contract, which I hope we wouldn't consider. I'll throw out a few options - which seems most palatable? (or offer your own hypothetical)

offering another vote for retaining / salvaging / believing in Darko, not to mention Big Al. I haven't heard of this trainer dude before, but it sounds like Carmelo swears by him, so I'm sold just on that merit. He kinda jumps to take credit for Al's 36-16 from a couple nights ago, which is probably straining credulity (I suspect his fresh legs were the biggest reason), but I suppose a fresh voice can't hurt. I know I'd be tempted to tune out Rambis about now...
