T'was the Night Before Florida

This poem was forwarded to me so I can't take credit for it but man is it funny!  Enjoy and be sure to pass it around! Go Vols!

Night Before Florida

Twas the night before Florida and all thru UT,

Were anxious students praying for a surprise victory.

The kegs were put on the porches with care

In hopes that overnight Tebow be eaten by bears.

The players were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of touchdowns danced in their heads.

My tickets were purchased & I packed my game cap,

And was ready to endure the loud Gator clap.

When out on the field there arose such a clatter,

I turned down Sports Center to see what was the matter.

Away to the sidelines I flew like a flash,

Finding the rival coaches out talking trash.

The air was humid and the moonshine glow

Gave a tense vibe to the altercation below.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,

Was Tebow himself, already in gear.

With a petite little man, so lively and wired

I knew in a moment it was Urban Meyer.

More rapid than lightning, the insults they came

There was thunderous yelling and calling by name.

There was Kiffin, Crompton and even ole’ Phil

Who met with their adversaries mid-field.

To the top of the jumbo-tron to the top of the stands

Urban declared, “We’re the best in the land!”

“We’re faster than the fastest bullet can fly.

We’re fluid & more consistent than your guys!”

“And I’ve got a Heisman!” Tebow ensues,

“And I helped cure cancer, what do YOU do?”

And then in a second Kiffin’s temper flared.

He stomped, kicked, yelled and heavily sweared.

As I reached for his hand and was turning around,

Down the field #16 himself could be found.

He was dressed in orange from his head to his toe

And majestically maneuvered past both of his foes.

A bundle of plays he had in his pack

That were sure to avoid many a Crompton sack.

His eyes- how they twinkled, His smile- how merry.

His cheeks were like roses & his legs, well- they’re hairy.

He said, “UT is not an SEC Average Joe!”

He slapped their behinds and said “Come on now- Let’s Go!”

They turned to face the kings of Gator Nation

With stone cold stares and sheer intimidation.

“You’re destined to fall and the Swamp is smelly!”

Then Phil chimed in and said “Get in my belly!”

Peyton said, “Tebow enjoy your hay day,

For in the NFL, the bench you will play.”

Tebow resounded, “Well, that’s a step up from Crompton,

For his days are over after this Gator chomp’in.”

Jon said, “When you talk all I hear is noise.

At least I don’t circumcise under-age boys.”

Kiffin said, “I’m a winner no matter the score,

Cause frankly Urban, my wife’s hotter than yours.”

The Gators united as Urban blew his whistle,

And Phil said, “We told them, now let’s go to Krystals!”

But I heard them exclaim as they drove out of sight,

“Saturday will end like the David and Goliath fight!”

Rejoice! UT Billboards in FL and ATL are here.

The billboards Coach Kiffin talked about are finally here.   Well, not here for me in northern VA but definitely spotted in Florida and in Atlanta.  You can read some reactions here and here.  My take?  I like the aggressiveness in showcasing UT football in a non-traditional market, well the enemy's market in the case of Florida.  It also sends the message that UT is starting fresh with new coaches, a renovated Neyland Stadium (can't wait to check it out!) and a new marketing campaign for football and Eric Berry's Heisman promotion (yeah he can win it, he's that good).  What do you guys think?  Too cocky or ingenious marketing?  And we haven't even begun to wonder what future recruits think of it....

H/t: No Silence Here

Excerpt:

Many Atlantans laughed when they heard that new Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin planned to erect billboards touting the Vols’ greatness in Florida. But will they still be laughing when they find out he has a couple going up right here in our backyard?

Two 14-feet-by-48-feet digital billboards will be seen along downtown Atlanta interstates early next week, Tennessee officials confirmed. The advertisements feature an image of Kiffin on the left and star defensive back (and Atlanta native) Eric Berry on the right with the words “It’s Time” in big block letters in the middle. It also says “Tennessee Football 2009″ and gives the web address to buy tickets, UTTIX.com. The billboards will be posted on I-85 North at Piedmont Road and on Cobb Drive at I-285 West.

TN Alternate Black Uniform (Updated Again)

Long time reader, first time post.

Am I a heretic for using too much black here?  I think when done right a black jersey isn' t so bad.  I've always wanted more stripes on the helmet but not too many more.  Also, the black facemask looked better than I thought it would.  So here's my contribution.  Is it worth trying for at least one game this year or is that wishful thinking?

UPDATE: I'm having too much fun with this.  Here's another one with a black jersey that I like.  Also below are more traditional home and away uniforms with some minor changes.  Enjoy.

Update 2:  Last update b/c I need to be productive today!  In response to the comment about using orange numbers I made a new uniform.  I borrowed heavily from the Raiders uniform and made this one as simple looking as possible and with clean lines.  I wanted it to look like a throwback and like the jersey for sale at West Town Mall.

Okay I'm done.  I gotta stop this madness.
