The Cubs on Tumblr
I had no idea the Cubs were on Tumblr! They post some nice photos and other cool stuff. Check it out. (P.S. If this is old news, let me know and I will delete this FanShot)
(I hope I got this story right...)
Am I the only one who laughed last night at this?
Zambrano will return to bullpen
If this is true, in my eyes it seals Z's fate with the Cubs. I can't imagine a scenario where he goes to the bullpen this year and returns to the starting rotation next year. I there's no way he stays in the bullpen with his salary.
So long Z...
Your Cubs All-Sentimental Team
As I was walking to work today I started thinking about what it would look like if I got to put together a Cubs team, for one game, that consider of my all-time favorite sentimental players. Those guys whom I've loved and have a special place in my Cub's heart. This isn't about putting the best team on the field, but one I'd most like to see play in person for one game.
For me, I limited my list to player's I've actually seen play in person. And I'm assuming these guys are playing in their "Cubs" prime. I have a starting 9 here, a closer and 2 relief pitchers that can enter the game. My list is below... what's yours?

The Onion pokes fun at Big Z
The Onion is having a little fun at the Cubs expense today.
Video Tour of Wrigley Renovations
A nice video summary of the upgrades to Wrigley over the winter. (If this has already been posted, let me know and I'll remove it).
Easy Opening Schedule
I was surprised to learn that according to this article... "Following that initial three-game series against the Braves, the Cubs are scheduled to play 29 consecutive games against teams that finished last season under the .500 mark."
This could be a huge launching pad for the season in my eyes. If they can start these first 30+ games strongly, I think it could go far to wipe away the memories of last season and to get them playing confident and at ease. I so much prefer this over getting a bunch of difficult games stacked back-to-back in the month of April.
How do you all read this?
Has anyone else noticed these "Year 1" banners all over the place that promote ticket sales?
Seems kinda odd. What is "Year 1"? The 1st year of the Ricketts dynasty?
Cubs Shut Harden Down for Season
A bit surprising. Does this have more to do with performance or health?
Best and Worst Cubs Free Agents this Decade
An interesting article to help get your mind off the Cubs current play. I'll summarize Whittenmyer's list below:
WORST
1 Todd Hundley
2 Milton Bradley
3 Neifi Perez
4 Aaron Miles
5 Alfonso Soriano
BEST
1 Ryan Dempster
2 Jim Edmonds
3 Ted Lilly
4 Mark DeRosa
5 Alfonso Soriano
"That's why I'm mad," Soriano said. "If he had told me yesterday, then I wouldn't come today ready to play."
A pretty bold statement from a guy making over $100,000 a game while hitting in the .230's. Why should he be owed the right to know a day ahead of time if he's in the line up? Would he have come "not-ready" to play if Lou had told him the night before? See the full story here
Coincidence or not, Soto has hit .315 with five home runs and 10 RBIs in 16 games since Joshua arrived. He homered Thursday against Brewers reliever Chris Smith, smacking a 2-0 fastball over the left-field wall.
For those in need of some distraction.... I ran across this today. I find it strangely mesmerizing.
That's it. Please return to the rest of your day.

Things that will happen before the Cubs find their offense.
We all know this month long offensive funk as been painful. You're gonna either laugh or cry. So let's laugh and have some fun, eh?
On May 17th, Conan ran across Wrigley being chased by security guards. He used it in his open of the Tonight Show last night. I thought it was pretty hilarious. FF to 2:00 to see it, but the whole open is pretty good.
Good luck Conan... you rock!
Leadership: Good for Reed Johnson
Bradley was quoted yesterday as saying:
''Reed [Johnson] kind of put his foot in my [butt] today, figuratively, and got me back where I needed to be..."
It's good to see some leadership inside the Cubs locker room. I'm glad Reed adding value to the team, even if he's not playing a whole lot right now.
This made me laugh. More clowning around between Big Z and LBR.
The picture came from this story in the Sun-Times today.
Chicago Cubs - LIFE photos on Google
Google has digitized Life photos. The above link are the ones tagged with "Chicago Cubs". There are some really cool old Cubs and Wrigley Field photos here.
Mystery Motion!
You guys are NEVER gonna get this one. But I thought I'd post it here anyway. I'll check back in later this week to see if anyone happened to figure it out.
Holy Beard Batman!
Impressive Baseball Beard by Reed Johnson
Aaron Miles Hostage Story
This story was new to me. I guess Aaron Miles survived a crazy hostage situation in 2000 when he was in the Minor Leagues. Slezak has the whole story here. It's pretty scary, but Miles held his own.
He gets some extra BCB Scrappy Points for this one.
Why People write "First"
A little fun for the day.
(p.s. writing "last" is still cool though)
Blagojevich illegally offered state help for sale of Wrigley?
Among the many things Blago just got charged with, this one was kinda interesting:
"Blagojevich and Harris conspired to demand the firing of Chicago Tribune editorial board members responsible for editorials critical of Blagojevich in exchange for state help with the sale of Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs baseball stadium owned by Tribune Co."
Maddux to Announce Retirement Monday
The full story can be found here: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081205&content_id=3703970&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc&partnerId=rss_chc
What a great run for Maddux. I'll be sad to see him go. It was always a pleasure watching him pitch.
Thanks for the memories Greg! We'll miss you. Who wants to share a favorite memory?
(p.s. I'll wait for someone to come up with a reason this impacts the Peavy deal : )
3 Interesting Stats (Hill, Theriot & Lee)
From this article posted in the Trib. today:
1. Winter ball hasn't proven a cure for Rich Hill's wildness. The Cubs lefty appears on the verge of a release from Aragua (Venezuela) after walking 19 in 191/3 innings, resulting in a 7.45 ERA
2. The Cubs' Ryan Theriot was the only major-leaguer to reach double figures in errors (14), grounded into double plays (19) and caught stealing (13) last season
3. Cubs' Derrek Lee grounded into the second-most double plays in the majors with 27, it's worth noting that no hitter had more chances. He came up in 180 potential double-play situations. Justin Morneau (177) and Albert Pujols (173) were the only other hitters to get more than 166 such chances. …
Fred McGriff to the Cubs?

There's been some intense hotstove action on BCB the past few weeks. Let's take a breather and have some fun.
Let me hear about your all time most disappointing free agent signings / trades. Those new players you were SO wanting to join the Cubs, but the move just didn't work out so well.
They can be big names or small names that you thought would make an impact.
Have at it everyone :)
This is a week late, but I never saw that photo until today... and I love it.
My Day at Wrigley
Just wanted to share the fun, as me and my friends enjoyed the clinching game today :) GO CUBS!
(p.s. I ran into 2 folks wearing a BCB shirt as well. Cool!)
Second City & Dempster
Looks like Dempster didn't make this event because of the change in schedule due to Ike. This article says Jeff Spellcheck filled in... Did anyone make ti?
