IMPORTANT FLASHBACK REGARDING A DIVINE PLAN
1st-Jeff Moorad- your eyes creep me out, but your voice sooths me to sleep.
2nd- Before the season I wrote a fanpost about signing Barry Bonds…about all the benefits of bringing the home run king to San Diego. As expected, most everybody who replied hated the idea. I, for one, loved the idea. I knew the Padres would suck and it could be a funny twist to a smelly time in our beloved franchise’s shitty history. I guess now I’m curious….
Given the current state of the San Diego Padres, would you be down with Bonds in left?
(I remind you he doesn’t eat contract money, he wanted to play for league minimum. Remember we had Hairston and Gerut so Giles would most likely not have been signed, leaving room for Hoffy to stay)
Bond, Barry Bonds
The Padres are shaving 30 million off payroll. Our highest paid player has made it obvious he's excited to leave town. Our next highest paid player beats pregnant women. Outside of Gonzalez, what power do we really have? what experience and depth do have in the outfield? And if we chose to address the outfield, what money do we have?
enter- Barry Bonds
He likes San Diego, will play for minimum wage and will donate the money to charity. The Friars could easily spin it into a positive for the team and community. It will address, interleague DH, late inning pinch hitting, and defensive sub once or twice a week. Playing for minimum means he has a a grudge to pick and something to prove so you know he'll play hard and work better with the media. He brings endless media attention to a team the is going to need it. You know the Yankees will hate how the Bonds' HR got more attention than Sabathia's 10k's.
My point is WHAT DO WE HAVE TO LOSE?
Barry Bonds + Roids = homerun king
Brian Giles + Roids = Chris Benoit
