Former Bronco Dies
Sad day in Colorado, current Rockies president, former Bronco and Colorado State player was found dead in a Hotel in Salt Lake City.
Enough of the who won the trade debate already.
via cdn2.sbnation.com
Everywhere you look, read, or listen the debate "Is Orton better than Culter, and did Denver win the trade?" Am I missing something, did we trade Cutler straight up for Orton? If we do win the trade, do we get a cookie or something for it? This started as a comment on Windy City Gridiron, and I felt it should be a post.
Being a Broncos homer of course I want us to win everything we do, even when we play charity basketball games against the blind. So ya I want us to win the trade, for whatever that means. The problem with saying this is how can you quantify something like this. You can throw out hundreds of stats, Ortons passer rating vs.Cutlers, W vs. L, on and on. The truth is if Cutler wins a Super Bowl, that doesn't mean we lost because he would have won here, same thing goes for Orton. We are comparing apples to bananas. Lets be honest here, before the trade happened we all felt we could at least get two first round picks and a quaterback in return, thus meaning Culter is "better" than the quaterback we would recieve. Yes Orton has played better games so far than Cutler, but then the great debate of Wr's, O-line, and Coaching ensues.
The trade isn't even over yet, we still get their first round pick next year. If Chicago falls apart this year and we end up with a top ten pick, then that pick is a very expensive bust(Ryan Leaf) or a holdout(Crabtree) then some could say we loose. I know, I know, before everyone flames me for saying such a thing about Mcdaniels/ Xanders not trading down for better value, drafting quality(Moreno) players over gifted( Reggie Bush) players. It could still happen, every bust was a sure thing to the coach's months before. Depending how you look into it, our defense could be very different as well. Say we didn't get Ayers, I'm not to sure we would have traded away our 1st next year for Phonz, kinda the cart before the horse theory. Then we can start mumbling 30 different things, that could of, would of, or should have happened that did or didn't happen.
For now lets just say it's worked out great for us, and who cares how it works out for Chicago. Other then the draft pick, I could really care less what Chicago does(standard for me). A few debates I would like to have however; how we won the "free agent" coach's market by getting McDaniels to work for our team, if Orton will be first team or second team in the Pro Bowl. Lets just stop debating about something that is so hard to reference, imposible in fact.

I Expect Better of Sbnation
I wanted to browse some other random blogs today, so I head to the main Sbnation page as usual. To my dismay the page was new, it was fancy. Had all kinds of headlines covering every sport. Then I dug deeper, scrolled down and found an article on Brandon Marshall. It just kept getting better and better, until i started reading what they had to say.
So what's going on here? The usually reliable Adam Schefter reported yesterday that, according to "two league sources", the Broncos were working on hammering out a new contract with the temperamental wideout. The fact that Schefter's account relies on two specific sources rather than the "several NFL executives and agents" the Denver Post refers to would seem to lend more credence to the rumors the Broncos are negotiating a new contract with Marshall. But at this point, who knows what Jeff McDaniels and the Broncos front office are up to. I'm not even sure they know.
Jeff McDaniels, really? Then he followed it up with a "I'm not even sure they know." I understand it's hard to follow every team closely, but could you please spare us the regurgitation of other articles already written that you briefly read for research. Or better yet, how about you ask one of your fellow bloggers John at MHR what his take on the situation is. Seems like for the fans by the fans is slowly dissolving into how can we be more like ESPN.

Uni Watch
An article of all of the teams, and what they are wearing this year for throwback games, also goes over teams that have changed their uni's over the offseason. Has pics for the Broncs and other teams, enjoy.
Stop Feeding the MSM
Let's be honest here, we hate how the media has continued to portray the Broncos as the new worst team in the NFL. Article after article of 3-13 predictions, bottom of the worst division in the league, Mckid couldn't manage a Mcdonalds, on and on. It's not only the large sportswriters who cover the whole league, our very own local coverage has been one sided as well. I'll tell you a little secret, they're loving it.
I can guarantee the Denver Post has never received as much traffic as they have this summer, ever. The Bronco fans are in complete pandemonium. Have you spoke with any casual Bronco fan of late? If you haven't, I can tell you it doesn't sound good. Take a brief look at the hundreds of comments under each article on the DP, the NFL Network, ESPN, you name it. All that the posters are doing is adding fuel to the writers fire. Rationalism does not sell advertising, however it's cousin sensationalism does sell. Not only does it sell, but it keeps bringing them back. We wanna give them excuses for writing abominations such as; They have to follow so many teams that they don't have time to look into our team in depth, they don't like McDaniels, and they think Cutler is the second coming of Christ. The truth is they don't care. They get paid to write articles that leave startling impressions on it's readers, in which gives readers a reason to come back for more.
It gets even better though. Lets say the Broncos have a year like the Dolphins had last year. We suprise everyone and make it to the playoffs. Now these same writers that criticised us all year will be writing articles on how amazing McDaniels is, how we are the surprise of the season, Orton was the diamond in the rough, Moreno best selection of the draft, no one seen this coming, more articles that play with our emotions. Once again selling more advertising in their papers and on the web. Worst case scenario for them is that they're right and then they can write articles on firing McDaniels as a coach, or how owner Pat Bowlen is going senile, and taking the team with him. I wanna call that a win win for them and a loosing situation for us.
To sum this up my friends we can always choose to not click on an article that is written in distaste, but we can't get enough of our team as it is. We choose to drudge through these poorly written articles just to satisfy our hunger. The only thing I can recommend is to post with integrity. If you think we are headed in the wrong way, use considerate, and well thought out reasons. If you feel we are headed in the right direction, make sure you let others know why you feel that way as well. If your on the fence I recomend reading this article by Bronco Bear. Until we as fans want to read articles that don't play on our fast twitch emotions, we are left with nuggets like these.
At 100 percent efficiency, Orton is a mediocre NFL quarterback.
Thanks for that one Kiszla!

Update on Darrent Williams Case
A long road just got longer, when it's all said and done I hope the family can finally find peace for themselves.
No Marshall Trade Talks underway
"There is no discussions whatsoever taking place between Denver Broncos and any team in the National Football League regarding Brandon Marshall," McDaniels said. "We're looking forward to having Brandon back on the 6th of September and starting our (season-opening) preparation with him."
I watched a report on NFL Live with Shefter stating the Broncos also may be after the Jets for a league violation of tampering as well.
Casey Wiegmann signs an extension!
Good news coming out of Denver regarding a pro bowler for a change. Glad to have him for 2 more years helping solidify our front o-line. Maybe Marsh should take a lesson on how to renegotiate a contract.
Raji tested positive
This will hurt his trade stock, and not to sure if Denver should still pursue him.
