1. Brett Farve is the definition of gunslinger

Jay Cutler showed that this type of mentality can be destructive against this ballhawking young secondary. They’ll make they’re share of mistakes, but with Coles out Farve will try to force the ball into Jerico Cotchery and Brad Smith the likes of which our corners should match up well against.

2. Ironically enough the Chiefs will be able to run on the NFL’s 4th ranked rush defense

This is probably my most bold prediction but thus far this season the Jets have faced Ronnie Williams, Sammy Maroney, an injured LT, Edgerrin Hightower, the Bengals high powered rushing attack…, and Darren McBush. No combination thus far has the cut back ability or the speed of Jamaal Charles. (Please understand that I know all their names). Those big run stuffers in the middle will over-pursue Mr. Thigpen and probably expose the draw, which is perfect for Charles. (now if we only ran the damn play!) I am predicting that Jamaal Charles has his breakout game on the road. Bring it on!

3. Thomas Jones is a big pile of crap

Even against the Grand Canyons our front 4 give up to opposing backs, Thomas Jones wouldn’t know what to do with them anyway. This guy ran for 67 yds on the freaking Bengals, who are giving up just over 152 yds/game. Now, if Leon Washington gets his share of carries then we might be in trouble but I’m hoping for the prior.

DISCLAIMER: While these are predictions and hopes, I am betting none of these things happen and we’ll lose 24-6 but for what it’s worth at least I can root for being right!

Here are just some of the quotes and links to things out there right now. Mostly from PFT.com, which is OBSESSED with this coverage. Can't blame em:

“Gonzalez has no one but himself to blame,” Schefter writes. “He crossed the Bills off his wish list. He closed his mind to a small town with a big heart. He limited his opportunities and denied the Chiefs the chance to take the third-round pick, and other compensation, the Bills were offering. This is not entirely Carl Peterson’s fault. Gonzalez also is at fault.”

http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/10/16/hard-feelings-between-gonzalez-peterson/

For Johnson, that’s a good thing. Because if Johnson were being disciplined for that in the wake of the charges being made public, it would mean that the team didn’t know about the situation until recently, which would subject Johnson to stern discipline under the Personal Conduct Policy for failing to disclose a pending criminal matter.

http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/10/16/lj-wont-play-on-sunday/

If the gossip on the league grapevine means anything (and, lots of times, it doesn’t), it’s not necessary. There’s talk in league circles that Peterson will be ousted after the season.

ttp://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/10/16/end-of-the-road-for-king-carl/

The man has been in power for 20 years and hasn't won a playoff game since 1993. No one writes about this tragedy and the pain endured by Chiefs fans. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8683040?MSNHPHMA

Complete sarcasm of course but in the span of 8 months there is a chance that Carl will have traded away the ENTIRE nucleus of proven talent on this team. Jared Allen, Gonzalez and now LJ - I just don't know what I'd do with all these gone. Good luck to Tony wherever he goes though.

"In addition to Gonzalez, FOX Sports has also learned that in those calls, the Chiefs have also been offering star running back Larry Johnson as well, informing teams he could also be available for the right offer."

Jay Glazer: "Trade TG to the Giants"

The second writer in as many days to suggest trading Gonzalez. 2nd and 5th rounders? I don't know if that is such a bad deal but I would be heartbroken with it.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8661522/These-trades-wouldn't-be-a-bad-idea

Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez to the Giants: Why would a team trade a man many consider the greatest tight end of all time? The Chiefs are rebuilding and by the time they turn around their fortunes, Gonzalez's time in this league could be over. Why let his career end on a rebuilding team? He and team President Carl Peterson are extremely close. If they can find a trade that would work for all parties, it would actually be quite honorable for a team executive to not hold a player hostage in his final years on a rebuilding team. Get something for him to assist with the rebuilding process. He'll forever be loved in KC regardless.

The Giants are the perfect fit as they'd provide Eli Manning with one of the most reliable targets in the league. Between Gonzalez and Plaxico Burress, their red-zone threat would be downright scary. The Giants should take the second- and fifth-round picks they got for Jeremy Shockey's trade and offer them to the Chiefs for Gonzalez. Shockey for Gonzo? Who doesn't do that?

Michael Ash from WPI wrote about a few issues regarding the Chiefs yesterday in his article siting a quote from Herm Edwards:

“We had to stop the run and we had to try to run the ball and try and protect our quarterback. We didn’t get any of those things accomplished. They came out and knocked us off the ball and ran the ball down our throat. We’re a much better team than that. We didn’t do it today. I don’t know why, but we’d better get it fixed in a hurry.”

I know, that's a good analysis Herm, we all saw it. Ash goes on to say the following:

"Those remarks from Herm Edwards sound similar to his post-game speech from Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, he actually made those comments three weeks ago after a loss to the Raiders. Needless to say, it’s not a good sign that Edwards gave the same general speech – the team played badly, he doesn’t."

I just want to pull my hair out of my skull when I think about his PC remarks. It's one thing when we are winning for him to say "Ya know, we came out and wanted to establish the run and I think we did that. We wanted to set a tempo early and give it a 100% effort for these kids. They're growing and we're excited." (made that up obviously)

I can't take this another week.

This is just this reader’s opinion. I have taken into account all the ideas people have come up with over the past few weeks and these are the only moves that I think are realistic. Be gentle.

Things that need to change:

1. Prepare Herb Taylor to start at right tackle.

The “Youth” movement now takes full effect. Damion McIntosh was so bad on Sunday that I ended up screaming at my buddy for no reason at all and stopped drinking all together because the beer tasted bad. That’s what his maddening play does to me. Herb has not been molded into an NFL LT for 8 years so his ability to learn the position would be a much better investment that waiting for Sackintosh to figure it out.

2. Get Donnie Edwards healthy and move him to MLB.

This is a position that we NEED leadership at. IMO, Demorrio Williams has proven himself to be a quality starter and DJ will continue to improve (I hope....). Pat Thomas has played valiantly but let’s just admit he was never the answer we needed. I may even go as far as saying see what Nap Harris can do.

3. Test Turk McBride at right DE.

F*ck it couldn’t hurt!….Hali, while I still believe a quality rush end just cannot match up against the premier athletes that line up at LT in the NFL. Let’s see what Turk has got from that side of the line. His bull rush would hopefully be more effective and he isn’t the slowest guy on that defense. Maybe if he can get a little bit of push Tamba pick up where he left off (once healthy) and contribute a bit more. We cannot be this terrible in getting to the QB.

4. Dick Curl

I know he’s a Herm guy. Most people are from what I hear, but what EXACTLY has this guy done? I guess we’ll probably have to wait until season’s end but Jim Zorn, a proven NFL quarterback and questionable HC choice is leading a talented, but not incredible, Redskin team over the home team in Dallas AND Philly. Can anyone say Trent Dilfer? (love his analysis on ESPN) jk

Things that should not change:

1. The secondary.

I love watching these guys. While overly aggressive (see 47 year old Mushin Muhammed’s best Usain Bolt impression) and sometimes ridiculously out of position, this unit has shown a ball hawk mentality and great ability against the pass when the run defense is playing well.

2. The run game.

This one will be controversial to some of you, but I for one am not of the impression that Jamaal Charles can be as effective as he looked yesterday (if that's what you call effective). We were in obvious passing situations and most of his yards came on draw plays. I am however in favor of 2 back sets with Larry and Charles (this pending Jamaal improves his blocking). Didn’t we hear about some of those? Jamaal is effective in the passing game, but not a 20 carry a game back. I am definitely willing to be proven wrong.

"This bye week should be critical for the Chiefs. Changes need to be made in the starting lineup. DaJuan Morgan should take Bernard Pollard’s spot at safety, and Herb Taylor should take over for Damion McIntosh at right tackle."
