"Saints coach Sean Payton pretty much ruled out signing Vilma to a new contract prior to the launch of free agency on February 27. "

Chiefs reportedly tab Clancy Pendergast at the next DC
Courtesty of Rotoworld. No link to the story as of yet:
"Chiefs hired former Cardinals defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast to hold the same position in Kansas City.</a>
Ex-Saints DC Gary Gibbs will coach the LBs. Pendergast loves to take risks, some of which create big plays while others result in big gains for opponents. He'll likely run a hybrid 3-4 scheme in KC, bringing 2008 first-round pick Glenn Dorsey's position into question. Dorsey is a pure 4-3 defensive tackle and was considered too small to for a 3-4 defense coming"

Matt Stafford "may not" Work Out at the NFL Combine
From the FanPosts. Tweaked the title a touch. -Primetime
From the Atlanta Journal Constitution:
"The word is Matthew Stafford isn’t going to workout. I hope he changes his mind. The league wants to see him handle a big NFL stage, not some controlled workout at his Pro Day in familiar surroundings. You want folks to drop millions in your pocket and you don’t want to work out?"
Does this mean he has the ultimate confidence in being drafted by Detroit?
I have no idea why he would avoid showing off his arm unless he already knew where he was going. Interesting to note that even JaMarcus Russell, who was assumed in almost all mock drafts to be going to Oakland, worked out.
Makes it easier for Chiefs fans I suppose.

Pioli gets his man...
Per Fox's Jay Glazer the Chiefs have reportedly offered the head coaching position of our Chiefs to Todd Haley. Rooney rule....check. Up and coming coach....check. Intriguing hire....check mate. This will be interesting.
Let the debate begin on where the defense is going....
Does this mean Chan Gailey sticks around as well? What about Thigpen? Will Boldin now entertain thoughts of coming with Haley? Russ Grimm will most likely be promoted to OC in Arizona. Now I'm just filling words to finish this damn post....

Courtesty of PFT:
That said, the situation remains vague, in large part because no one in the organization is yapping about it. As a result, it’s not clear who’ll be interviewed, or when the interviews will happen.
And, frankly, the Browns could learn a valuable lesson from the example the Chiefs are setting.

"I'm not saying Peterson and Edwards should go if the Chiefs have trouble selling out in the three final games, beginning Sunday against the Bills. I'm just saying they could be in trouble if that's the case."

3 reasons the Chiefs can win this weekend
1. Brett Farve is the definition of gunslinger
Jay Cutler showed that this type of mentality can be destructive against this ballhawking young secondary. They’ll make they’re share of mistakes, but with Coles out Farve will try to force the ball into Jerico Cotchery and Brad Smith the likes of which our corners should match up well against.
2. Ironically enough the Chiefs will be able to run on the NFL’s 4th ranked rush defense
This is probably my most bold prediction but thus far this season the Jets have faced Ronnie Williams, Sammy Maroney, an injured LT, Edgerrin Hightower, the Bengals high powered rushing attack…, and Darren McBush. No combination thus far has the cut back ability or the speed of Jamaal Charles. (Please understand that I know all their names). Those big run stuffers in the middle will over-pursue Mr. Thigpen and probably expose the draw, which is perfect for Charles. (now if we only ran the damn play!) I am predicting that Jamaal Charles has his breakout game on the road. Bring it on!
3. Thomas Jones is a big pile of crap
Even against the Grand Canyons our front 4 give up to opposing backs, Thomas Jones wouldn’t know what to do with them anyway. This guy ran for 67 yds on the freaking Bengals, who are giving up just over 152 yds/game. Now, if Leon Washington gets his share of carries then we might be in trouble but I’m hoping for the prior.
DISCLAIMER: While these are predictions and hopes, I am betting none of these things happen and we’ll lose 24-6 but for what it’s worth at least I can root for being right!

Chiefs Blowing up Internet News
Here are just some of the quotes and links to things out there right now. Mostly from PFT.com, which is OBSESSED with this coverage. Can't blame em:
“Gonzalez has no one but himself to blame,” Schefter writes. “He crossed the Bills off his wish list. He closed his mind to a small town with a big heart. He limited his opportunities and denied the Chiefs the chance to take the third-round pick, and other compensation, the Bills were offering. This is not entirely Carl Peterson’s fault. Gonzalez also is at fault.”

For Johnson, that’s a good thing. Because if Johnson were being disciplined for that in the wake of the charges being made public, it would mean that the team didn’t know about the situation until recently, which would subject Johnson to stern discipline under the Personal Conduct Policy for failing to disclose a pending criminal matter.

If the gossip on the league grapevine means anything (and, lots of times, it doesn’t), it’s not necessary. There’s talk in league circles that Peterson will be ousted after the season.

The man has been in power for 20 years and hasn't won a playoff game since 1993. No one writes about this tragedy and the pain endured by Chiefs fans. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8683040?MSNHPHMA

"Tony Gonzalez threw back the curtain and unveiled the horrors of inept management and coaching for all to see. Clark Hunt can’t possibly sit back and let another offseason go by without making changes."
