The Phinsider Some Early Predictions on the Offseason Coaching Carousel

It has become a common occurrence for several NFL coaches to lose their job at the end of the NFL season.  An offseason where less than 2 coaches lose their jobs would seem completely surreal.  Wade Phillips was the first coach this year to hit the bricks, but he will definitely not be the last.

The Phinsider Why the Phinsider?

Hello Phinsider faithful!  This post is only slightly Dolphins related, but is more geared towards this blog and other SB Nation blogs you follow.

I am doing a current events presentation in a Social Media course at college, and I have decided to explain the merits of SB Nation as a whole and for myself in particular The Phinsider.  I have a lot to say myself, but I feel like you can all help me.

"They booed, and I smiled," Taylor said.

Why exactly do you all want him in the ring of honour again? He thinks you and I are a joke, regardless of what he has done in the past (which is lose)

The Phinsider A Bit of Media Savvy, Please!

Since the early 1990s, there has been a concerted effort to teach children and adolescents how to be "media smart": namely, to think critically about the things you see in the media so as to avoid manipulation or terrible consumer decisions.

This critical thinking regarding the media is often (or hopefully) applied to commercials and infomercials, national and local newscasts, newspapers, sitcoms and cartoons.  However, a major problem I am noticing recently is that  there seems to be a serious lack of media savvy used by many fans with regards to sports television and journalism.  This lack of critical thinking is leading to the creation of problems that do not actually exist, and in some cases serious damages to player careers and even full NFL teams.

The Phinsider What's the Hold Up?

I know that many of you fin fans have been clamoring over certain things all off season.  Where's the big receiver?  Who is going to man our safety position next year?  How are Miami residents going to keep their families fed when Rex Ryan and the Jets come to town?

That said, there is something that I have been waiting for since about a month ago, something near and dear to my heart, that I think needs to get more attention.  Building for the future is all fine and dandy, and I'm glad the Dolphins are putting their focus on it, but I think it is time we honour one of our greatest veterans.

Zach Thomas wants to retire as a Miami Dolphin (See bottom of this article from a month ago), and if anybody is deserving of that honour, it is him.

The Phinsider Kicking Epidemic? Playoffs Yes, Regular Season... kind of.

There has been a lot of talk this post season about the state of kicking in the NFL, and rightfully so.  Teams have been hurt this post season by players who many barely consider players at all.  But just how bad is it? A comparison of 2009 FG stats from the regular and post seasons to 2008 and 2007 is telling.
