MMAmania FFB Post - B League Wild Card Week
Oft the laughing stock of Mania's FFB community, the B-League is nonetheless having playoff games just like the other league. As I write this (drinkin' bur) I'm waiting on Beast Mode to put me over the top and get me to round 2. My Colts clinched 1st pick in 2012 draft this week which as most of you know is an entirely separate clusterfuck as our wretched season. Here's top 5 players for B-League:
* Only players on teams who competed included
1. Tony Romo - 36 points - Donkeypunch
2. Mark Sanchez - 29 points - ClayMMA
3. Marques Colston - 29 points - ClayMMA
4. Percy Harvin - 26 points - Donkeypunch
5. Julio Jones - 25 points - ClayMMA
The 1 and 2 seeds, GriffinFan and Jersey Devil, respectively, had 1st round byes. Kudos for that, bitches.
(4) YouveGotGold - 165 points - (This is the score as Seattle's D is waxing StL)
(5) ClayMMA - 157 points
Clay MMA put up a valiant effort but the strenf of YouveGotGold proved to be to much. ClayMMA got much more out of his receiving corps then a normal week. Unless Seattle shits the bed in the next 20 minutes ClayMMA goes night night. Otherwise a solid performance this weekend. Sweet dreams.
(3) littledemons - 117 points
(6) Donkeypunch - 119 points - (This is the score as I watch MNF. Feeling good.)
littledemons scored just as many points as he was supposed to. He had big games from Rodgers, McCoy, and Chicago's D. I'm sure he's sick as fuck that Rodgers was pulled, but so goes FFB playoff time. ViolentMike can suck my balls over talking shit about the low scores in the B-League, but the Donks have turned it on in the second half.
I'm not sure if I like like FFB playoffs more than NFL playoffs, but I sure enjoy this shit. Thanks for having me this year, assholes!
Donkey's First Friday Fun Thread
Last night I though to myself, "What would be a good topic for my first Friday Fun Thread? Since my handle is donkeypunch, bestiality should be the obvious theme. The more donkeys the better!" But it then occurred to me that the only Maniac that would enjoy this thread is Danago. This was obviously no good and I was at a loss.
Furries? Nah.
Nurses? I'm sure that's been done.
Famous hotties? That's sorta done every week.
Not that nice tits and ass aren't all good in any format, I wanted to make this theme special. But I soon realized that coming up with an original theme with 20 minutes left on my shift was a much more daunting task then I thought.
I said fuck it. I can't come up with anything ground breaking. It's TnA for fuck sake. Who cares!
So, with fall fast approaching, we will do a flannel/plaid themed Friday fun thread. And yes, Catholic school girls in uniform do count. (And of course throw some porn teaser gifs in as well)

What's Next For The Natural Born Killer
via mmacity.com
Going into this fight I think most people had Dan Hardy winning a decision through superior kickboxing. I personally thought this fight could be nothing but an absolute three round war. But then, Carlos went all Mick and Mallory with a left hook that dropped The Outlaw where he stood. The question now is, "What's next for The Natural Born Killer?" Carlos had some thoughts of his own at the post fight press conference:
"Well, um, you know, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing who wins that fight, between Kampmann and Shields. I fought both those guys, and you know, handed decisions to both of them and would like to get one of those back."
Being a huge Carlos Condit fan, I would love to see him avenge one of those losses. If Kampmann does in fact defeat Shields I could see Dana and Co. putting that fight together. If that fight went in Shields' favor the UFC would no doubt give Jake the next title shot.
So, aside from Kampmann or Shields, who's next? Jon Fitch should seriously be considered, and here's why. We all know what happens during a "Fitch Fight". A lot of Fitch taking his opponent down and administering mucho top control. But Condit has the mad scrambling ability to potentially nullify this, and as we saw last night he can knock your ass out, too. A fight with Fitch would raise concerns with the UFC brass about losing another potential title contender to the likes of Fitch, but for my money this fight makes the most sense.
Now, what say you? Talk amongst yourselves.
Hide Your Fruit Stand, Din Thomas is Coming to the WEC
Din Thomas said he spoke with Sean Shelby at the UFC Fan Expo and expects to be in the WEC next year. He also said some other stuff.
Paul Daley signs a six-fight deal with Strikeforce
"Paul Daley signed a six-fight Strikeforce contract. He will still fight at Shark Fights 13 which will go down September 11th at the Civic Center Coliseum in Amarillo, Texas (sort of a strange date to have an MMA event). His first opponent will be Evangelista Cyborg which denotes that he will still be competing at welterweight."
MTV's Big Black prefers Strikeforce over UFC. Props to www.mmafighting.com
MMA Weekly Reports Leonard Garcia to Step in for Cub Swanson at WEC 48
Leonard Garcia is going to get a chance to fight again sooner than expected. He last fought to a draw with George Roop at WEC 47 on March 6 in Columbus, Ohio, but will now step in for teammate Cub Swanson at WEC 48 on April 24.
Garcia (13-5-1) will face "The Korean Zombie," Chang Sung Jung, on World Extreme Cagefighting’s first pay-per-view event, scheduled for the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif.
Prior to the draw with Roop, Garcia dropped a unanimous decision to Manny Gamburyan. He’ll be looking at the fight with Jung as a chance to correct course, although it may not be an easy task.
Jung (10-1) is considered one of the top Korean prospects. He has fought mostly in the Japanese promotions Pancrase, DEEP, and Sengoku, where he is coming off of a victory over Matt Jaggers.

The Science Behind GSP Being the P4P Best in the World
As the P4P debate rages on, FightMatrix.com has a scientific method for compiling P4P rankings based on a point system - similar to BCS rankings. Fght Matrix.com describes its division dominance list:
The division dominance list debuted on 3/16/08, and is comparable to a pound-for-pound list, but does not factor in the theoretical or “proven” ability to transcend weight divisions while remaining successful. This list ranks fighters based on their point level superiority over those in the division in which they are currently ranked.
This is done by averaging the point level which encompasses the typical transition between the elites and top contenders of the division, then compares this average to the fighter’s current point level. The higher a fighter’s division dominance points, the more “dominant” they are over their divisional peers.
The division dominance list has GSP pretty much running away with the No. 1 spot, while Anderson Silva and Fedor Emelianenko are in the 2 and 3 spots, respectively.
Michael David Smith writes:
The second analysis comes from BloodyElbow.com's FightLines, which provide one big chart showing who's beaten who in the welterweight division.
It's really amazing to look at that chart and see how vast the welterweight division is, and how dominant St. Pierre is over it. It's especially amazing when you consider that St. Pierre absolutely dominated both Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves, who themselves have completely dominated the welterweight division when they're not fighting St. Pierre or each other.
Something else worth noting is that unlike most weight divisions in MMA, the UFC houses almost all of the top ranked WW's.
Mr. Smith goes on to say:
Anyway, consider this food for thought as we prepare to watch St. Pierre take on Hardy in two weeks. If St. Pierre wins, he'll have cleaned out the welterweight division to such an extent that there's not much left for him to do. Except maybe move to middleweight.
Like most fans, I'm ready to see GSP move up to the MW division, provided he beats Hardy. If he eventually wins the MW title, I think we will have found the greatest mixed martial artist ever.
Randy Couture at the NFL Combine
Randy Couture is in Indianapolis this weekend trying to create some interest in MMA training methods among the NFL community. From Micheal David Smith at Fanhouse:
Randy Couture is spending the weekend in Indianapolis, trying to drum up interest in mixed martial arts training methods in general, and his Xtreme Couture gym in particular, for NFL teams interested in exploring new methods of strength and conditioning for their players.
Fox Sports NFL reporter Jay Glazer, who takes a keen interest in MMA, is acting as a go-between for Couture and NFL teams.
Jared Allen of the Minnesota Vikings talks about his time with Arizona Combat Sports:
"I think it's going to be the most important thing I did to help my career," Allen said last year. "It totally changed my entire workout regimen. It's so much easier on the body than running and all that stuff that puts impact on your joints. Plus, it's fun. You won't get burnt out doing the same old running and hills. You'll push yourself further than you ever anticipated."
The article goes on to talk about NFL players competing in MMA after retirement. One player in particular, Stephen Neal of the New England Patriots (the guy who beat Brock Lesnar in college wrestling), is mentioned by Couture. Full article here.
From Michael David Smith at Fanhouse:
After hearing from a few mixed martial arts fans who were wondering how they could watch the upcoming Dream.13 and Sengoku 12 cards in North America, I checked in with HDNet to get some details on the network's plans for televising fight cards -- some live, some on tape -- for the spring of 2010.
In general, HDNet will make Friday night its major fight night. Most Friday night fight cards will be live, but some Japanese fight cards -- including the March 7 Sengoku 12 -- will air only on tape, not live, on HDNet. Sengoku 12 will be on tape on March 12.
"As you know, HDNet has more live MMA than any network in the world," HDNet Fights CEO Andrew Simon said. "On rare occasions, we will delay a broadcast from overseas to work best within our programming schedule. As Sengoku 12 takes place on a Sunday night from Japan, we wanted to debut this great card on our Friday night line-up."
Other notes:
-- HDNet will show live fights on the final two Friday nights in March, with an XFC card on March 19 and King of the Cage no March 26.
-- In a piece of good news for fans (like me) who are willing to be awake at any hour to watch live MMA, HDNet says Dream.13 will be shown live in the wee hours of the morning on March 22.
-- HDNet is also expanding its MMA programming with a new 30-minute interview show, Fighting Words, set to debut in March. (UFC President Dana White will be interviewed in the first episode.)
-- In April HDNet is planning two MMA shows (a King of the Cage card and Dream 14) as well as live K-1 kickboxing events.
With a Win Over Jardine, Bader Will be a New Player in the LHW Division
via www.matratz.com
Ryan Bader and Keith Jardine, two former TUF cast members, will meet at UFC 110 in what could seriously impact the LHW division. Jardine is coming off of two losses against very stiff competition in Thiago Silva and Quentin "Rampage" Jackson, and it appears with this fight that Jardine has officially entered gatekeeper status (which could change with a win here).
Coming off of a UD win over a pretty tough guy in Eric Schafer, Bader is favored in this fight but he is not currently ranked in the USA Today/SB Nation Consensus Rankings. Jardine is ranked 16th in the LHW division and has faced the top of the heap - coming away with a few big name wins in Chuck Liddell, Forrest Griffin, and Brandon Vera.
With a win over Jardine, this vaults Bader to the top 15 - depending on what fashion he wins in. Two names that come to mind are Thiago Silva and Luis Cane. With wins against either Silva or Cane, that puts Bader right in the mix for a number one contenders match. With Bader being a TUF Winner coupled with the fact he is undefeated, you have yourself a very marketable new stud at the LHW division.
While I know I'm getting ahead of myself, I'm picturing a new LHW division come Sunday with Ryan Bader standing right in the middle of it. With powerful hands, great athleticism, and world class wrestling ability he has the tools to give any of the 205ers problems.
Let me know what you think in the comments.
Danny Hodge Wishes There Was MMA Back In His Day
via www.obsessedwithwrestling.com
University of Oklahoma wrestling legend and former Olympic wrestler Danny Hodge spoke with Dave Meltzer about what might have been if MMA was around in his day:
"I wish it had been around when I was young," said Hodge, now 77, who in 2000 was listed by Sports Illustrated as one of Oklahoma’s greatest athletes of the 20th century.
For those of you who don't know who Danny Hodge is, he's considered one of if not the greatest collegiate wrestlers of all time. From 1955 to 1957 Hodge went undefeated at the University of Oklahoma on his way to three consecutive NCAA Championships at 177 lbs. What's more astonishing is he was NEVER TAKEN DOWN.
Like so many former collegiate wrestlers, Hodge found himself "competing" in entertainment - style wrestling when he first came across martial arts:
"The first time I saw it was in 1968 in Tokyo," said Hodge, who was touring Japan at the time as a pro wrestler in an industry where he was and remains a backstage legend. "I saw them doing takedowns. I watched it on television. It was called kickboxing in those days."
Hodge goes on to talk about his boxing career, storied wrestling career, and his current involvement in MMA. Read the full article here.

Rampge vs. Evans for UFC 96?
Just jacked this from cagepotato:
MMAmania.com can confirm that a main event title fight between newly crowned UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans (13-0-1) and former 205-pound kingpin Quinton Jackson (29-7) could be added to the UFC 96 card at the Nationwide Arena...
Perhaps the only thing currently standing in the way is time — both fighters face relatively tight turnarounds since their most recent winning performances at UFC 92: “The Ultimate 2008″ on Dec. 27.
Hope that's true and I hope I posted this right. First time FanPost.
