Mathieson to DL; Robertson DFA'd

28

Mathieson 15-day DL for muscle strain in his back. Robertson DFA'd (yay!) to make room for Cesar Carrillo claimed off of waivers from the SD Padres.

As we all suspected, it looks as though it's about to finally become official. This is probably a good thing for the players, but with Fehr's history and reputation, I fear another resulting lockout.

Lindros, Shero Overlooked by HHoF

5

I knew Lindros probably wouldn't make it, but I feel it's a bit of a travesty that Shero still hasn't been included.

Uncle Cholly had his first press conference since the World Series loss today at CBP. Check it out. His quotes are priceless.

Phillies to bring back Powder Blue unis for a day

The Phillies will be in Milwaukee for 1970s weekend, May 14-16, and the teams will wear their old-style uniforms for the May 14 game. The Phillies wore the powder blue uniforms on the road for most of the '70s. Perhaps I am in the minority, but I'm a big fan of the powder blues. I look forward to seeing Howard in them. LOL.

From the Inky: A reporter told defenseman Chris Pronger that people in Toronto were calling Carcillo "Public Enemy No. 1." "Why? What did he do?" Pronger asked. "The way he taunted the Leafs' bench," the reporter said. "He answered somebody taunting him," Pronger said, referring to Acton. "So what did he do" that was wrong? The reporter said he expected Carcillo to hear it from the fans last night. "He's a big boy; he knows how to handle it," Pronger said.

Scott Eyre Retires

"Eyre, 37, will not be playing baseball this summer. He said in a telephone interview Thursday with MLB.com that he is retiring after 13 seasons in the Majors. He finished his career 28-30 with a 4.23 ERA in 617 appearances with the Chicago White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs and Phillies."

NHL Investigates Hossa, Pronger Contracts

7

The NHL will hire an outside firm to determine whether the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers discussed a time line for Hossa's or Pronger's potential retirement before the long-term contracts were signed. If the league does decide to sanction, this could get ugly.
