7. Brandon Inge, Detroit Tigers: Who do you want on your team: the model citizen and decent human being who generates outs with metronomic regularity? Or the drooly, inbred wackjob who gets on base at a 38 percent clip? Me, I'll take the dope, then hire Inge to run my charitable foundation. I suspect he'll excel at sponge bathing the destitute leper-orphans.

"Beltre is clearly the best third baseman I’ve ever seen in person," said Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon. "I think Evan Longoria is good, I used to think Scott Brosius was really good. …Eric Chavez was good, but Beltre was stupid good. I think Beltre is the best who I’ve ever seen with my two eyes – defender, not just third baseman, but defense."

Dombrowski would be a negligent GM not to at least consider signing Beltre to a 1 year/$13 to $15 mil deal (possibly with an option yr). Beltre walks after that year, Tigers pick up 2 draft picks. And Beltre upgrades the lineup and the defense without trading away any valuable prospects. Dombrowski's pitching staff would be very happy if they signed Beltre.

Bless You Boys Dombrowski: set at 2B for 2011, need to upgrade to better hitters at the corners.

Dombrowski gets candid:

"I feel comfortable going into next year at second base with what we have at this point -- with Rhymes and Sizemore. We're in pretty solid shape when you talk about having those guys."

"For us, we need to find bats at the corners to go along with Cabrera -- guys who can drive in some big runs."

Interesting that Dombrowski is showing his hand this early in the process. With all the openings the Tigers have next year, maybe he wants to be able to focus on going after the biggest bang for the buck at the traditional offensive powerhouse positions (3B, R/L F).  Although at least R or L field is likely to be filled internally with either (hopefully) Wells or (hopefully not) Boesch. Which leaves 2 corners for DD to fill:  1 corner outfielder and a 3B.
