Burnt Orange Nation Sports Radio.. Who Are You Listening To?

I'm always curious about this. I love when SI releases their announcer ratings and I remember once reading some opinions on national radio hosts, but I'm wondering specific to BON. Who do you listen to, who do you like, who do you barely tolerate but somehow find yourself listening to anyway? My thoughts after the jump.

We are currently losing handily to the land thieves in this poll on who has the better college tradition. Get the word out, do your part, there's no reason we should lose this one.

Read the PDF linked in the first post.. It paints a bit different picture of Texas football than I think most of us would like to believe is the case. If it were some random player, I might have some doubts about it but Sherrod has always been a stand-up guy in my opinion.

Also disconcerting to hear the small bits about VY and Aaron Ross.

Crimson And Cream Machine Thoughts on OKC Thunder?

I am mostly curious/trying to get a read on your thoughts on the Thunder/Kevin Durant.  I know personally that although my team is the Pistons I root hard for OKC despite the obvious implications.  At first it was mainly just rooting for KD to do well but the more I watch them, the more I like seeing Russ Westbrook/Serge Ibaka/others play. Where do sooner fans fall on all of this? I know Kevin is generally pretty pro-Longhorns and though that may have flown in Seattle I am sure it doesn't have the same reception in Oklahoma.

My closest relation to this type of situation is in the NFL.  I am a Colts fan, and since we have been in the same division as Tennessee (aka The University of Texas - West) I have generally rooted for all our ex-Longhorns to have an exceptional game but still lose to my Colts.  At the same time, we drafted Brody Eldridge last year and naturally I want him to kick ass despite the fact that I wanted the opposite only months prior.

I suppose in some ways I am trying to find some common ground with you sooner fans as, despite the fact that I am bound by birth to hate you, I was personally disappointed last summer during conference re-alignment at the prospect of suspending what I consider the best (and angriest) rivalry in sports.

Best of luck to him in the league! Hopefully it's actually around next year.

If I'm not mistaken he has a pretty good track record with this column.. Great to see the vote of confidence.

If you read the ESPN Big 12 blog you probably already saw this, but I thought it was pretty cool. This is ALL sports, not just CFB. Way to go Sam!!

Burnt Orange Nation Saturday Morning Open Thread

It's finally here! Real, live, legit saturday college football.  What are you watching to pass the time until our beloved Longhorns curbstomp the Owls this afternoon? Personally, I'm a bit curious to see how the John Brantley era kicks off against miami of ohio.  That, and I don't see any other games on besides a nailbiter between western michigan and mich state.  You?

(BTW, you can find everybody's favorite tv sked here)

No idea why or what the circumstance is. This has been reaffirmed by Dustin McComas of OB so it sounds legit. Sad to hear.

Burnt Orange Nation BON Meetup?

Just curious if anyone here is interested in organizing some sort of a viewing/social anything in the near future (or if something like this is already happening).  I'm not sure if the admins all know each other here or what, but I think it would be cool to have some sorta get-together-- whether it's baseball or a non-Longhorn event (WC, NBA Finals, etc.)

Let me know what you think!  It never hurts to "enhance" a community with a little sloshing, IMO =)

Burnt Orange Nation Another opportunity to support your Longhorns this weekend

Hey folks, just thought I'd point out to anyone potentially interested in a bit faster-paced sports experience this weekend (no knock on our shop-wrecking Baseball team here), I would encourage you to come check out a pretty entertaining club sport if you haven't done so yet-- Lacrosse.  This weekend your Longhorn lacrosse team begins playoff action (after receiving a first-round bye) Saturday at 12:30pm against Texas Tech, a team they should easily steamroll, en route to the LSA Championship game against the winner between Texas State and SMU on Sunday at 3:30pm (go Bobcats! I will be cheering for them this weekend as my brother's a captain on that team).

The games are located at Austin-Westlake Chaparral Stadium, and are generally $5 if not free to attend for the day/weekend.  Schedule can be found here.  Last year the Longhorns won the State title and advanced to nationals, the MCLA Sweet Sixteen before falling to Michigan 11-5.

If you've never seen a game of lacrosse in person I would definitely give it a try.  The action is fast and odds are you'll see some pretty impressive trick-shots-- if you're a hockey fan, especially.

Avery Bradley declaring?

Just heard Chip & Sean discussing this on 104.9, and judging by his fb page it looks like he will declare. Decided to remove quotes so as not to invade on a bunch of privacy, but one of the commenters was Wes Johnson of Syracuse which seems to lend a little credence to the rumor.

Burnt Orange Nation Texas Reportedly Talks w/ The Big 10

"People will deny that, but it's accurate," the source said.

Until now, the Texas-to-the-Big-Ten talk had been purely speculation. Ever since the Big Ten announced in December that it will actively explore the possibility of expansion, a lot of junk has been thrown out, particularly the recent bogus rumors about Pitt. But this is the first legitimate news outlet to report discussions between the Big Ten and an institution.

Colt says goodbye c/o The Daily Texan

The Gators are still in the running for the nation's top prospect, Jackson Jeffcoat (Plano, Texas/West), who will visit Jan. 15 along with the No. 2 prospect and top linebacker Jordan Hicks (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West). Jeffcoat is considering Florida, USC, Arizona State, Houston, Texas and Oklahoma, while Hicks is nearing a decision with Florida holding the edge over Texas and Ohio State. All three schools made in-home visits to Hicks this week, with Texas getting the last word on Saturday.

can't blame him...

...Then someone asked Thomas what he would do if he received a first-round grade. Would he go then? "I'm pretty sure I would," Thomas said. "I came to college to make money. First-round money, I haven't seen it. Nobody in my family has ever seen it. I'm not going to turn that down."

Burnt Orange Nation Longhorn Volleyball Fans..

Does anyone have (or know anybody who does) any recorded footage of the team (via ESPN, Versus, etc) from this season (or even just sportscenter highlights)?  If not, does anyone know how I might go about getting some through one of these organizations?  Any source will work for me, even if it is just coming from the actual DVR.  If anyone could help me out I would be eternally grateful (and buy you a 12-pack). Thanks!

Crimson And Cream Machine What's your take?

How does this come off to you guys? Stuff like this is (among other reasons) why Texas fans hate your coach so much.  Just seems like a weird combination of arrogance/blamelessness/smugness/etc.

http://www.newsok.com/berry-tramel-coach-bob-stoops-challenge/article/3416344?custom_click=lead_story_title

I'm not even saying he's wrong, because the point is valid in some respects.  But it just seems classless to call your players out in front of the media that way. Probably also not the best idea in the recruiting dept either.

Do you think that type of thing is justified? Does it look bad to you too?

The 7th Floor Good luck from Austin, Texas!

Hey all, just wanted to say that we (at least many self-respecting Longhorns) are pulling for you guys this weekend!!  Especially with the lack of a game for our boys in Burnt Orange, I will be channeling extra energy toward Land Shark this weekend (we all know how things turned out the last time OU played a team in Miami).

As Rome says, college football is better when The U is good, so do us all a favor this weekend and BEAT OU!!!

Regards,

Burnt Orange Nation Coaches Poll

Honestly, it's starting to feel like a joke.  To re-emphasize a point that a lot of sportswriters have been making lately, while the [now bcs-irrelevant] AP poll can be silly at times, the coaches poll almost looks as though it was written to mock the process entirely.  Is this some type of conspiracy, or are there actually people out there that feel justification for the following (some quoted from stewart mandel):
