to rest or not to rest
As I anticipate the beginning of the new football season, I curiously find myself leaping ahead to the playoffs. I'm a Colt's fan....so I can do that, right? I'm still smiling about the superbowl and I have to admit that I admire what the G-men did last winter. Even more heroic than the superbowl, was their final game of the season against the Patriots. They could have played it safe and 'rested' several key players. Or, they could go full steam ahead and try to give the country a real televison treat....and attempt to derail the Patriots undefeated season. They obviously chose the latter and injured at least 3 key players in the process. But, even though they lost a close battle in that game, they stayed sharp and well.......the rest is history. I think by almost winning that game, a new confidence emerged that let them know they could knock off the Pats. I can't help but think that's the best route to go. My personal feeling on the matter is that it's better to keep the players sharp and in the winning mode. After all, resting players hasn't had the best track record in Indy. As much as I like Tony Dungy, I just wish for once he would take the mindset of going for the juggler in those final games of the season....and let the chips fall where they may. It was really difficult to stomach watching the Colts play back-ups in that game with the Titans. When Peyton played his few downs, he made it look easy. What was he, 8 for 8? The Colts were on track for a slaughter, but the plug was pulled. It was fun to watch if only for a series. What are your thoughts?
