Batting Average with Runners in Scoring Position

I have heard some comments from the media and blogs about the Cubs inability to get clutch hits with runners in scoring position. I decided to pull some #s to see how bad things have gotten.

The numbers don't lie. The Cubs are the worst in the NL in batting average with runners in scoring positions and there is one active Cub with a batting average over .300 with runners in scoring position. This is bad.

Player to be Named Later

There has been a lot of talk over the years at Bleed Cubbie Blue about our favorite Cubs trades for a PTBNL. According the very reliable Wikipedia there have been some decent PTBNL guys: Jeremy Bonderman, Scott Podsednik, Coco Crisp, Moisés Alou, Jason Schmidt, and David Ortiz.

I am not saying that the Cubs are going to be getting a David Ortiz for Rich Hill. I am just saying that you never really know how any trade turns out for a couple of years down the road.

Juan Uribe signs deal with Giants

I am happy about this. I did not want to see Uribe in cubbie blue with his weird blond chin beard.

link

I wonder if this opens the door to Rich Aurilia. I think Aurilia would be a nice fit, a poor man's Derosa and everything I read said Aurilia was heading back to SF. With Uribe heading to the Bay Area, this might mean Aurilia to the Cubs. It also sounds like Bako will be signed soon.

Leadoff Hitter

Something that hasn't been discussed in a while that was talked about at length last year was the top of the Cubs order, specifically the Cubs lead-off hitter. We talked endlessly how Soriano is not a lead off hitter and how he needs to drop in the order. Soriano did have 19 steals in 2008 which is nice but he is not the prototypical leadoff hitter that many winning teams have with a high on base percentage or great speed. Soriano's on-base percentage was .344 (43 walks) in 2008.

What should the Cubs do a the top of their order assuming that Brian Roberts will not be a Cub? Lead off Theriot? Aaron Miles? Grady Sizemore?
