Dodgers Drafting of Zach Lee
Have people seen this? From the Dodgers' Media Network, this video shows some of the minutes leading up to Zach Lee's selection. They make it seem so perfect, It feels staged..
Rancho Cucamonga at Inland Empire - 7/24/10
I posted this on the dodgers.scout.com boards but this site seems to get more traffic so I'll repost it. Here are some quick hits from the 66ers game on Saturday:
Eovaldi missed this start with an oblique injury. This was already noted by another poster.
Johan Garcia made three nice plays at third base. He showed good range, instincts, and at least a solid arm. His error came on a play where he charged a ground ball, barehanded it and threw on the run. The throw was in the dirt and Gallagher had to stretch but Austin had a chance to pick it. Too bad he's 23 and can't hit.
Alfredo Silverio had a nice opposite-field double on a fastball up and out over the plate. His issue seems to be laying off offspeed stuff down in the zone.
Not sure what happened to Austin Gallagher circa '08 but in my looks at him he's just been a guy that just hits ground balls to the opposite field. His two hits came on a blooper and a hard grounder past the SS.
For those of you who haven't seen Javier Solano, he's a little on the short, stout side. I wouldn't expect him to add velocity or anything.
Matt Sartor just overpowered the hitters in his stint, even striking out Mike Trout. He throws from a high slot which helps him get big downward break on his power curve. He got several swings and misses and a couple of the swings were pretty ugly. HIs peripherals in AA looked pretty decent and he looked like he should really be at that level. Even though he's an older guy, I think he'll see the majors at some point if he sticks with it.
I saw Solano clocked at 92 and Aguasviva at 91-93. I don't remember what Sartor was at but I think he was in the 90-92 range.
Video of Pat Corbin
Pat Corbin - 7/24/10 (via dbtung)
Here's video of Pat Corbin from last night pitching against the Inland Empire 66ers. The video is a little uneventful: he warms up, the 66ers get a couple bloop hits, and then the video ends in the middle of an at-bat. I thought it might be timely though, since he was included in a deal for Dan Haren today. I saw Corbin clocked at 89-90 in the 4th inning.
Diamondbacks MOD #2
Here was the 1st MOD:
In my first post, I talked about who might be available at #6. In this post I want to present some brief thoughts on these guys and have you guys respond or tell me who else I should consider.
2010 Mock Draft: Diamondbacks
Hi all,
I don't know how into prospects, or for that matter the draft, you guys and girls are, but I welcome everyone to participate in the community mock draft at minorleagueball.com.
MOD Diamondbacks
Greetings all,
I have been chosen to run the Diamondbacks' mock draft for this year. I am a Dodgers' fan at heart, so you'll have to forgive me for that. I look forward to everyone's feedback and participation and hope that my being given the Dbacks as a default is not due to a lack of interest in the DBacks community. I will be updating this post as much as possible and is necessary to keep interest going.
video of Aaron Miller, Kenley Jansen
I got to the game late. Miller was 90-92 in the 4th. He breezed through the 4th, striking out the side. In the 5th, his control wasn't as good, in fairness he did face Alexi Amarista, and he got into a (couple?) three-ball count(s). Reggie Willits got the only hard hit ball off of him, a double to deep-right center.
Video shows his mechanics' better than his stuff. This is just one at-bat against Dillon Baird in the 4th. I put the last pitch in slow motion for those interested.
update: added video of Kenley Jansen from the same game to my channel. Jansen was 92-93, touched 95. He cracked 3 bats, including 2 in the at bat I posted. The following inning, he struck out the side swinging on 16 pitches. (5, 3, 8)
