Why aren't we playing Utah again?
Apologies if this was covered elsewhere, I haven't been able to find anything on it...
We had a nonconference game scheduled against Utah for this Saturday. Then they entered the Pac-12 and we were forced to go with Missouri State as a last-minute replacement, to fulfill the constraints of the conference schedule. Yet AFAIK Cal and Colorado just played an intra-conference "nonconference" game last week. What's the distinction that allowed them to go ahead with their matchup while we had to settle for kicking around whatever tomato can that wanted a paycheck?
Casey Matthews listed as starter in Eagles' first depth chart
Take it with a grain of salt as there's still plenty of time before the NFL season starts, but Casey Matthew is listed as a starter at this point. Apparently he's been showing the Eagles he might very well be a draft steal and there's a good chance he will indeed start Game 1.
As they said over at Bleeding Green Nation: "Seeing Casey Matthews' name as the starting MLB should only be a surprise if this is the first thing you've read about Eagles training camp."

watching the Ducks in NYC?
Just realized I'm going to be in Brooklyn for the Oct 6 Cal game. Had a brief scare for a moment where I thought maybe we'd be on a plane - thankfully we leave the next day. Phew! Any recs for good places to watch Oregon in the city (doesn't have to be BK necessarily)?
Along those lines - and apologies if this already exists and I'm stupidly missing it - wouldn't it be nice to have an archive of Ducks-friendly bars in different locales on ATQ? I would totally use such a thing, especially if users could post their own experiences/perspectives via the comments...
Go Ducks!
NBA Playoffs - Separated At Birth
Celebrity look-alikes - you know which Blazers player is going to be represented here, and which coach (though Carlisle as Jim Carrey is a close second for me). There were a couple other amusing ones I'd never considered, such as Ginobili and Balki Bartokomous.
Any other twins of playoff coaches/players out there?
Good yet not-too-packed places to watch the CW in Portland?
Despite the manifold comforts of my living room and new TV, in my opinion if you're in Oregon you gotta go out in public to truly enjoy the Civil War. The back-and-forth between Beavers and Ducks fans is great, as has been the look of crestfallen defeat on their faces the past two years. This must be seen firsthand if possible. I'm sure they've felt the same during OSU's wins.
I'm in Portland, and the problem with this is that all the popular places that are normally decent are packed like sardines with both fanbases for this game. Have tried Claudia's, Mission Theater, etc, lines out the door, nowhere to stand let alone sit, forget ordering a drink, etc. I'm just looking for somewhere a little off the beaten path but still with good TVs and atmosphere... where do you other PDX folks like to go?
Readers around the NBA and on the Blazers...
"A spokesman for the Portland Trail Blazers says the handful of players on the team who cozy up with novels didn't feel comfortable revealing themselves."
Any guesses as to which guys comprise this 'handful'? Too bad they're covert about it, as the hometown of Powell's can definitely appreciate a few literate athletes...
