Looks like Schmidt is either gonna stay at "home" in SF or go back home to Washington state. At least the Dodgers won't be getting him. Whew.

"Mariners: Right-handed pitcher Jason Schmidt -- one of the top free-agent arms on the market this winter -- has narrowed his choices to returning to San Francisco or joining the Mariners next season, according to the Houston Chronicle. Schmidt is from Longview, Wash., and is believed to be interested in pitching in his home state. That could help the Mariners' chances of landing him. Schmidt faced the same decision following the 2001 season. His agent made a verbal commitment to sign with the Mariners, but Schmidt changed his mind several hours later, and re-signed with the Giants."

Ok. So it's us or the Cards. I'm not familiar with signing deadlines, arbitration, etc, but as far as I know, with the Cards offering arbitration, Morris can take his sweet time making a decision about clubs. So WHEN will he make his decision? So let's see...

Padres - Get the best closer in baseball back (he's not injured and he's proven gold)
D-Backs - Get the best catcher in NL (IMO)
Dodgers - Snag a great infielder (expensive as he is)

Giants/Rockies - ....

Are we next in line to land a big name (Morris)? Or are we doomed to the Steve Kline and Tim Worrell kinda offseason?

He's a free man and considering his numbers last year vs. Snow's I wouldn't discount the old guy just yet. That's IF he comes back to play and if we can get him. Says that he was at a $3 million option so that's not so bad in my opinion. What's yours?

Would you take Bonds in October?

Ok. The Giants actually have a minute chance to make it into October. 1 in a million but it's not impossible. Here's the question I pose to you: If Barry Bonds miraculously gets better and wants in on the playoffs, would you take him? Before you say "Hell yes!" consider the fact that he hasn't contributed a single thing to the ballclub all season. Consider that IF the Giants get into the playoffs, they did it themselves, fighting tooth and nail with the scrappiest team in all of baseball. Does he deserve to get the glory in post-season? Think about it. I'm a hypocrite. I'd say "hell yes!"
