Curmudgeon's Corner: What are the chances...?

I'll admit it: I didn't think they would get past the Bulls. Originally, I expected a sweep. Then, after all the injuries, I figured it would be over in 6. I thought they would lose Game 6 and then...

Curmudgeon's Corner: It makes me sad...

I haven't done one of these in a while, preferring to share my snark and insanity with you in threads, and recently, on the Twitterz (follow me, dammit! I have people skills!! I'M GOOD WITH...

Let's pretend...

This is the stuff that goes through my mind when I'm not swarmed under with work stuff to do. Since it's the silly season in the NBA (AKA the trade deadline), I just snarked on someone's thread:...

Curmudgeon's Corner: They were who we thought they were...

Wow. 8 points in the third quarter? Really? 23 points in the entire second half? This is a serious team? While I admit it was nice to see them play a good half of basketball, it's alarming how fast...

So much for our guys...

Pretty sure our guys will not be selected using this new process. Not nearly sexy enough.

Some love for the BUST!!!!

David Thorpe had some nice things to say about our own Evan Turner in his ranking of second-year players. It's an Insider article, so I just copied the relevant part... ------------------------ 6....

Curmudgeon's Lawn: They Still Suck, Sometimes...

Ok, they only sucked for 12 minutes last night, against arguably the best team in the league. However, I hope last night served to inject some much-needed reality into people's perception of our...

Hollinger leaps onto the Sixers' bandwagon...

3

It's an Insider article, so I'm pasting the relevant part... "Philadelphia 76ers: Hint: When we launch the Power Rankings next week, don't be surprised if the Sixers are a lot higher than you might expect. They might be only 3-2, but the Sixers have the league's third-best scoring margin even though they have yet to play a home game. Moreover, Philly is hearing positive answers to most of it preseason questions. Can Evan Turner take a step forward in Year 2? Apparently so, after he carved up the Hornets for 21 off the bench Wednesday night. Can the Sixers establish a perimeter game? They are shooting 40 percent on 3s even though their best shooter, Jodie Meeks, can't buy a bucket right now. OK, it's only 85 attempts as a team, but thus far Andre Iguodala and Louis Williams are flashing much better long-range games. And finally, there's the big question: Can Spencer Hawes be stopped? Actually, that wasn't a preseason question many had, but Hawes seems intent on getting a big payday after signing for the qualifying offer this past summer. The 7-footer has been the Sixers' best player thus far, averaging 13.0 points and filling his line with 11.4 boards, 3.6 dimes and 2.2 blocks."

I Need My Damn Basketball!!!

OK. The Eagles unexpectedly suck. After the other night's game, I'm not sure if the Phillies are going to wrap hands firmly around neck again this year in the playoffs. And I don't give a crap...

I think this is awesome...

Iguodala spending his lockout time constructively. It's gratifying to hear about an NBA player acting like a grownup.

I hate this draft...

I've said this a few times today, but I am looking forward to this draft not at all. This might be the Worst Draft Class in NBA History. Do you seriously see more than maybe three of these guys...

Say It Ain't So!!!

Who shall we turn to to keep the end of the bench warm, while showing off his sartorial flair??

Good Bloodlines!

Given how awesome his cousin was for us, we should grab this guy up immediately!!

How do you define "success" for this season...?

With a reasonable possibility of as many as 44-45 wins (this is a high-end estimate) and a quite possible fifth seed (and almost certainly sixth), do we think this has been a "good" season? I know...

Who is Coach of the Year? Evidently not Doug Collins...

Is this team REALLY any good?

Yes. Nice record (for us). Over .500 for the first time in ages. Won seven of the last nine games. Look like world-beaters some nights. Seems like players are developing apace. Most of the time. H...

Why NOT Contraction?

Seems like everyone's got an opinion about whether there should be contraction in the NBA or not. LeBron thinks there should. Of course, I couldn't give a rat's doo-doo-maker about LeBron's opinion...

Top 10 BUSTS!!

I was amused by this. Greg Oden already has a mention, although he's not on the list. How long before we see Evan Turner on this list?

Magic Johnson: Lakers may need deal, or, Adventures in Food Animalism...

1

If Rod Thorn ever wanted to channel his inner 8-year-old me and make a true food animal deal, here's his opportunity. I bet at least one person on here would think this is a good deal. And no, I'm not pointing at anyone in specific. C'mon, Rod, give 'em your Joe Namath for a no-name guy you already have 12 of...you'll get to hang out with the kool kidz for a whole 5 minutes... If nothing else, it might buy us a small bit of goodwill from Stern Almighty, if that amounts to anything...

OT: Nyets!!

Hollinger Loves Our Bench (incl. some major Thad love!)

+

The relevant section, for your amusement... "Philadelphia's second unit also rates strongly, although this owes more to the efforts of a single player. Thaddeus Young has a much stronger NBA Sixth Man Award case than most realize, leading all bench players in EWA (estimated wins added) and rocking an 18.30 PER as a combo forward off the pine. Furthermore, the Sixers are 9.75 points per 100 possessions better with him on the court than off it, according to basketballvalue.com. High-scoring guard Louis Williams is the other strong contributor here, but the other reserves have had a negligible impact."
