In a blatant move to bury the fact that the White Sox were shutout AGAIN the staff at South Side Sox hit their readers with a barrage of quality articles to keep them distracted. Since the game there have been no fewer than three quality posts.

First up larry hits us with the BP recap in which we get a glimpse into the thinking of club management and come to find out that a real life journalist is among us under the alias 67wmaq. Who is this mysterious blogger? Is he only the first wave of out of work newspaper men to infiltrate our ranks and take over? Stay tuned.

Then the Cheat posts a recap that only recaps the fact that Betemit sucks on a Lillibridge level, even worse than Fields. He gives us the hard facts on that which we already knew, the Sox really suck against kids they have never faced before. He also voices a concern I share that Contreras didn't show us all that much in AAA as far as his control and that maybe the C+C throwyness factory should serve as a two headed monster every fifth day.

Oh ok, yeah, I still like this club Im starting to forget about the whole SHUTOUT FOR THE 7th TIME OF THE SEASON when BAM! Cheat hits again with a solid summary on what Kenny Williams starting pitcher ambitions likely are with this little gem currently on the front page. Reading past the opinions of those stupid real journalists(no offense wmaq) to the heart of the issue that Kenny is looking through this season and beyond. We the reader cant help but think yeah this guy is probably right, Kenny doesnt want a mercenary, he wants a puzzle piece that will fit in the next few years. I couldnt agree more.

Then finally we have rangerjae posting his musings which may speak more to the common fan and is loaded with gems:

I was excited. I lost my shit...

Third base? WTF?...

Any pitcher who doesn’t want to pitch on the White Sox is a stoner...

Does this guy know how to lead off a paragraph or what? Great stuff everyone, you almost made me forget about the game last night. You know, the one WHERE THE SOX COULDNT SCORE ONE LOUSY RUN. AGAIN. FUnCK!

The first biannual(?) SSS meet up was a blast.

the cip was wasted(he wore it well), LT(stands for Lithuanian, not Ladanian Tomlinson like I always suspected) stole the show(despite wu being an OPOS about his ethnicity), hsa is a babe(believe it), el diablo(his real name is fisters) invented a new hi five that will overtake the nation, colin is nice(but long haired and a ginger no less, so he clearly cant be trusted) u-god drank his first 4 beers ever(i think), TAEG lived up to the moniker with his stunning good looks, happy human kept us up to date on the Hawks at the post game tail gate, and the cheat not only showed up but he wore a tuxedo. talk about class. the monkey from pale hose 9 was even there, as were trooper, furbs, hazymania, the whole gang. t-dogg brought some street cred to the crew(hes black) and inherited a promotion to OPOS too, since no young person wears a Greg Norman style hat like that.
815 showed up and infected us all with his disease, but the bomb in larry's brief case never went off so that part was good. The only bad thing was the fact that the game was over just as we were all figuring out who each other was. Wrap it all up with some post game fireworks AND cans of Schlitz and Hamms(they still make both, do you believe that?) and it was a perfect day.

internet nerds before the game:ranger jae, trooper, u-god, hsa, furbs, larry(back), hazymania, LT sox fan(front), e-gus(back), t-dogg, colin, happy human(front), el diablo, wu, TAEG

both photos taken by the lovely mrs. e-gus.

We have to do that again, it was a lot of fun.

Thank you for not coming to the AL Central.

You would have brought us false hope of glory here and we both know that is impossible with a roster containing Scott Podsednik and a mediocre college QB playing third base.

Ultimately this club is better without you and you park inflated numbers, we didnt want your ass here anyway, punk. We already had the Puerto Rican version of you here the last two season and that didnt go so well anyway.

Im actively shopping you in my fantasy league, because you clearly have a mangina. Thanks for nothing.

You dishonored our country in the WBC with your 14.40 ERA but we still didnt care.

Now however, we hate you.

Sincerely,

So here's the deal, E-gus broke the damn site with all of his unclosed tables. So I had to delete what he wrote, and spend at least 75 words saying why fantasy results are no longer here. Unfortunately, I'm not feeling particularly verbose at midnight on a snowy Sunday evening, but I'm a conscientious blog owner and I wouldn't resort to filling this space with copy-and-pasted filler text. That's looks like enough. Post your teams in the comments

This is set up more to follow your favorite squad than it is to outdraft everyone. In fact its not a fake team at all, its a real team league.

No Yankees, no RedSox.

We're going for under 200 million in payroll.

Teams taken so far: White Sox, Tigers, Indians

Available:

A's

O's

Rays

Twins

Royals

Rangers

Angels

B Jays

M's

on yahoo:

League ID#: 192167
Password: fuespn

We will send you a confirmation with further details once you have completed the registration process.

Note from GUS:
No Red Sox, No Yankees, AL only. Name your team after your favorite club, draft only your teams players. Fun way to easily follow 15 offensive and 15 pitching categories of your favorite team.

All 2008 White Sox Center Fielder

Well its been too long frankly since our last poll for all time Sox players, but since our friend U-God is busy blowing his nose and warming his toes, I decided to fill in with a centerfielder question for the masses. Consider this rain delay theater on the U-God project. I got these stats from yahoo! sports, and if they are to be believed, the Sox went 138 for 579 from the position, which is a .238 average and if Im not mistaken the very definition of a replacement player. Anyway, these stats are for games they played at cf exclusively, not their entire season.

In 2008, the Sox had a six pack of players take the field in centerfield, who was your favorite?

Nick Swisher

Well someone sure liked him because I saw a ton of Swisher t-shirts out there at the Cell last season. He started 69 games for the Sox, logging 535 innings in centerfield, and made 4/5s of the errors at the position. He hit safely 54 times in 222 tries as our CF, 9 for doubles and 11 HR for 47 runs and a dirty 30 batted in. He stole a bag and was caught once, and he struck out ten more times than he walked, 44 BB and 54 Ks(with 50 of them looking and grinning if I remember correctly), his slash line read .243/.369/.432/.802. He netted the Sox two Yankee prospects in a trade, I think they're names are Jack and Shint.

Brian Anderson

I love the range this kid has in the outfield, he gets to a lot of balls that would otherwise fall in for hits, but his bat has been pedestrian. He started 37 games in the 8 position and logged 447 innings there in total. 36 hits in 160 ABs with only 8 walks and 41 Ks. No errors, scoring 15 times on 11 doubles and 6 HR, knocking in 21. He stole one bag, with a slash line at the postion going .225/.262/.406/.668

Ken Griffey Jr.

He looks good there, but.... well, he just wasnt much of a centerfielder anymore. Man thats still a good looking swing though, even if it is considerably slower. The kid played 250 innings in centerfield, starting 32 games. 25 hits in 104 ABs, 10 doubles, 2 HR, scoring 11 and knocking in 13. He had three times as many ABs in right field as he did in center according to yahoo sports, which doesnt seem quite right, but I suppose its possible as I was drunk most of the season anyway. He walked 13 times, struck out 18, and had a slash line of .240/.322/.394/.716. He didn't have any steals, but he did rob Michael Cuddyer and the Twins of a run in the 5th inning in game 163 of the season, pegging his ass at the plate, making the trade completely worth it.

Dewayne Wise

There are not a whole lot of pictures of Dewayne, even though he started 17 games in centerfield and played 144 innings out there for the Sox in '08. 17 for 59, scoring 9 runs, knocking in 6 on two doubles, a triple, and 3 HR. 4 SB, never getting caught, with 3 BB and 16 Ks. From the position Dewaynes line looks pretty good: .288/.317/.508/.826. Looks good compared to the rest of this bunch anyway.

Alexei Ramirez

The Cuban Missile took off in his rookie season for the Sox and was a big part of the central division Championship. A big part at second base. He was the opening day centerfielder but started only 6 games at center, logging 63 innings out there committing the only error at the position that wasnt credited to Swisher. Alexei was 5 for 28, with two doubles knocking in 2 RBI, scoring 0 runs. He had 6 strikeouts, one walk and was caught stealing. .179/.207/.250/.457 was his line, and many of us thought he wasnt ready for the show. Thank God noone heard us from our basements.

Jerry Owens

Jerry started two games in center, playing the 18 innings and going 1 for 6 at the plate with 1 K(pictured, maybe) 1 SB, 0 BB, 0 R, 1 RBI. .167/.167/.167/.333

2009 Sox Pitching: Octavio Dotel, Rotation Concerns

First I want to talk about Octavio. Hes 35 this year.

He had a 17% HR/Fly ball ratio last year, vs about 10% for his career.

He was really good IMO last year, but my wife hated him largely because of that stat.

Can we count on this guy this year? I mean we have to, but should we? What about Linebrink? Hes no spring chicken, either. I have some concern about the pen, but mostly that because of the question marks in the rotation.

Why havent they signed a SP? I dont think Freddy is the answer in the same way that KW doesnt like Garland.

Lets go sign Ben Sheets AND Pedro Martinez.

Pedro put up two of the best seasons by a starter of all-time in 99 and 00, hes definitely worth a look.

Sheets is downright nasty when he's healthy, and last year he was good for 198 IP. 200+ in 02, 03, and 04. Its just that 106 IP in '06 that everyone remembers and frankly I kind of expect. But 120 IP of a 3.8 ERA looks ok to me.

There are other options as well:
What about El Duque? Hes Cuban, so that fits the bill. Who cares if hes older than my grandfather. Randy Wolf? I dont know, Im grasping at straws now, but they should do something. Even Mark Prior got a minor league deal with SD. Make a move.

Im not sold on Richard, and I dont think the Sox are either. At least they weren't last year, after he had a good start they went to Javy in NY twice when Richard should have had that second start. That would have been a good time to see what the kid was made of, they missed the chance to test him on the big stage at crunch time.
Poreda is going to be really good, but I rather see him on the Buehrle career path. A year in the pen before taking a spot in the rotation.

So where do we stand then:

Buehrle and Danks - lefties that should be pretty reliable as far as quality and workload.

Floyd- 34 HR given up last year, a number that is pretty high and has no reason to go down really, hes a flyball kind of guy. I still like him though, and he pitched his ass off last year, any improvement at all would be great.

Thats it, thats the rotation. Three freaking guys, and last I checked, its 2008, not 1908.

The Count is out until the dog days and frankly could be done forever.

They need to sign somebody. I know they didnt expect to have that Thome money on the books, and Im aware of the economic climate, but I also know this fan base, and having Pedro will fill those seats. Sheets and Pedro together can be a badass 1/5 of the rotation, and anything after that is gravy.

Fire up the pilot light on that hot stove and do something Kenny, we've got some holes to fill.

The Fate of CHESSFU

Sometimes the planets align just right and we all get a glimpse of brilliance like we had for three posts in one day from the would be poet laureate, CHESSFU.

This isn't the first time an intellectual giant graced SSS with his prescence, only to be berated and cast off by those of us entrenched in the annals of this web periodical. There have been other free thinkers that have wandered into this little strange baseball/LOLcode hybrid only to be shunned and exiled for eternity.

Its a rare bird that can be assimilated like kenwo, we need to be more nurturing to our vagabond weirdos so that we get more than one day of their pure comedy gold.

That is why I suggest we launch a new campaign, similar to this:

intro

actual mission

the best post ever

everything they say should be met with 100% enthusiasm and marvel at how simple yet perfect it all is. we'll need a secret signal of some kind to signal that the operation is a go(perhaps 'the fate of Carlos'), and we need the heavy weights on board like wu and larry who post about 50 times a day, as well as at least one moderator. We can encourage the next maniacs outlandish opinions and thereby milk their comedic genius for a solid week or so before the jig is up.

just a thought to pass the day since the pilot light apparently went out on the Sox hot stove.

1. The Sox go into Boston and take two games next weekend. Vazquez vs Beckett, Buehrle vs Matsuzaka.

2. The Sox will go into New York and end all Yankee hope for the post-season.

3. I will drive to Minnesota and blow off a few days of work to watch the Sox take the Central.

4. ESPN collapses upon itself leaving a giant crater in Bristol when the Red Sox and Yankees both fail to make the play-offs.

5. There will be at least two comments hammering me for my optimism.
