"He's a winner"
"Tucker broke down Brady’s career into two separate parts:
1. Brady’s first five years as a starter. (He threw a grand total of three passes in his rookie season of 2000.)
2. Brady’s last five years — not including 2008, when he tore his ACL in the opening game of the season.
The CliffsNotes version of Tucker’s take is this: Brady has been a far better player over the last five years, yet he won all three of his Super Bowls in the first five.
I agree with Tucker. In fact, I don’t think the former statement is debatable at all. Yet, for those who believe that playoff success and Super Bowl championships are the best measuring stick of quarterback greatness, it’s a bit of an intellectual challenge."
Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke
Fortunately, Mike Patterson is doing well after collapsing this morning during practice. Unfortunately, however, this sort of event could have been avoided if players and coaches were made more aware of the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Since I have some free time on my hands, I thought I'd do a quick rundown on these topics.

"Just reported on 97.5 the fanatic that teams have sought permission from the Eagles to talk with Kolb's people.
Yes.....I said teams. That is all. Carry on."

Interesting if true. RT @timring3TV: SOURCE: Eagles tring to squeeze Cards for a 1st round pick plus DRC. Cardinals currently offering DRC and 2nd. Man, that's a rough call.
Carson Palmer retired (according to Bengals)
Bengals owner Mike Brown insisted on Tuesday that he won't trade quarterback Carson Palmer, who wants to leave one of the NFL's least-successful franchises.
"I honestly like Carson Palmer," Brown said. "He was a splendid player for us. He's a good person. I wish him well. And he is retired. That is his choice. ... I'm not expecting him to be back."
Patrick Peterson fails Wonderlic badly
Peterson reportedly scored in the single digits on the Wonderlic, which asks such dubious questions as "What is the 9th month of the year" and "Which is the smallest amount". The article speculates it could hurt his draft stock, but it's Yahoo, so I won't put much stock in what they have to say. If you want to take a sample Wonderlic, here's a link
Being told that a ruling on the injunction to block the NFL's lockout is more likely to be closer to a month than a week.
"Now being told by another person familiar with the CBA process that there will be negotiations tonight, not just meetings with mediator."
"A full group of players, union lawyers, Roger Goodell, John Mara, NFL staff scheduled to meet tonight with federal mediator George Cohen."
...get it done! We need to trade Kolb!!!
Mankins will get franchise tag
The Boston Herald reports the Patriots fully plan to use the franchise tag on free agent LG Logan Mankins.
The first day of the tagging period passed without a move, but it's "definitely coming." In the meantime, the sides have an opportunity to negotiate a long-term deal. If Mankins signs the tender, he will earn $10.51 million in 2011. Mankins balked at signing last year, holding off until early November.
NFL, NFL Players Association cancel second day of talks
"The NFL and the NFL Players Association have canceled a second day of labor negotiations, set for today at an undisclosed location, according to multiple reports."
NFL will issue refunds to 400 displaced fans at Super Bowl
About 1,250 fans were displaced Sunday because their temporary seats were deemed unsafe -- 400 who weren't allowed inside, and 850 who were relocated elsewhere at Cowboys Stadium.
Asante Practiced!
NOTES: Cornerback Asante Samuel, who missed the last three games with a knee injury, practiced Wednesday. But his status is uncertain. "To be determined," said Samuel, who leads the NFL with seven interceptions. "I need to get some more picks, man ... some more turnovers," Samuel said. "I've been stuck on seven for three weeks now. My goal is to win Defensive Player of the Year this year."
Desean Jackson: It’s very interesting that people say I’m unhappy, or whatever it may be. To me, I’m the happiest person doing it. I have a bright future...The biggest thing is we’re winning, I’m in the NFL, I’m happy, I’m 24 years old. … I’m just blessed.

Depression affects nearly 20 million Americans every year. That’s 10% of the population. But so often, it goes undiagnosed and untreated, and men like NFL offensive lineman Shawn Andrews -- strong and powerful physically -- are expected to be immune to it.

Jets and Darrelle Revis are $40 million apart on new deal
Revis has been looking to surpass Oakland's Nnamdi Asomugha as the highest-paid cornerback. Over the next two seasons, Asomugha will average $16.5 million. So do the math on a 10-year deal. That brings the number Revis wants in the $160 million range. Guaranteed money? Probably about $30 million.
Jeremy Maclin thinks he'll be fully back by tomorrow
"Worked out wit the team this morning.....will be at practice this afternoon and hopefully full go tomorrow morning! Gotta love it!"
Injuries and Guaranteed Contracts
A few days ago, Elvis Dumervil went down with a torn pectoral muscle which will reportedly sideline him for about 4 months. Obviously this is a tremendous blow to the Broncos chances this season as Dumervil is a sack master. Making matters worse for the Broncos is that he recently signed a $61.5 million contract extension with about $43 million guaranteed. After hearing about Dumervil's injury, I went over to SB Nation's Bronco's blog (Mile High Report) and was surprised at what I found. Yes, there were the expected comments lamenting the impending doom, however this was the first comment:
WOWSo they will still have to pay Dumervil this year even if he never steps foot on the field? And then they may have to pay him next year when there’s a possibility of no NFL season?
Broncos ended up getting fleeced on this deal.
Today I returned to Mile High Report which posted a link to an article describing the nature Dumervil's guaranteed contract. Apparently, his contract isn't fully guaranteed for $43 million. It's actually something called a "rolling guarantee" meaning (if I understood the article correctly) that at certain dates in the future, a chunk of that guaranteed money becomes truly guaranteed. The article explains it like this
As of this moment, Dumervil has a full guarantee of $3.185 million and an injury guarantee -- for a sever injury -- of $28 million in 2010-2011, and an injury guarantee of $9 million or $12 million in 2013. So, yes, he does have a guarantee of $43.185 million yet, at this point, only roughly $3 million of it is for injury and skill.
On the fifth day of the 2011 League Year, whenever that is, the $28 million for 2010-2011 becomes fully guaranteed, making the guarantee over $31 million at that time for skill and injury.
The article finishes up by suggesting that the Broncos could cut Dumervil to avoid paying him his contract, or try to renegotiate it down. The fans over at MRH don't seem receptive to this idea, and I personally disagree with it as well.
What do you think? In light of situations like Dumervil's are you more likely to support players like Revis in their quest to get paid as much as they can as soon as they can? After all, it only takes one play for a player's career to end.

Haynesworth to skip minicamp, formally asks for trade
"Despite receiving one of the richest contracts ever for a defensive player when he signed a seven-year, $100 million contract that included $41 million guaranteed just a year ago, Haynesworth has not been happy with the team's new coaching staff and has boycotted all but one day of the team's offseason program."
