Recent SU graduate Tyler Gildin has made another funny video, this time about being a Jets/Islanders/Mets fan. Link to the video is below....support an alum!

Since I need to fill the word count, let me take this time to show my support for Doug Marrone. The guy is doing the right things to make this football team be competitive and I think we all need to support him and fill up the dome this year.

RECRUITS
Very impressed. Below is a list of incoming SU players and the big name schools they chose us over. For all those who make comments on the PS site, we no longer are fighting over recruits with Akron so quit your whining...
Julian Whigham: BC, Miami (Fl)
Wayne Morgan: Wisconsin, ALABAMA, Penn St. Maryland, Rutgers, BC
Myles Hilliard: Pitt, Michigan St, West Virginia, Minnesota
Markus Pierce-Brewster: Mississippi, Oregon St, Indiana
Josh Manley: BC, Louisville, Missouri, NC State, UCF, Wake Forest
George Morris: Illinois, Purdue, Utah, Vandy
Ron Thompson: Illinois, Michigan, Vandy
Joshua Parris: Mississippi, USF, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia
James Washington: Cincy, Illinois, Iowa St, Pitt, Purdue, South Carolina, West Virginia
Look, HCDM can coach. You can see that by going to the Pinstripe Bowl just 2 years after taking over one of the worst programs in the country with majority of the same players playing. If he can just get some talent to go with his coaching ability, I think we are in fantastic shape. I think right away our team will pass the "look test" on the field, and actually look like a top D1 team in a major conference. Most players are between 6'2-6'6 and it is very exciting to see how our coaches will develop them.
CHARLIE LOEB
aka RGLCL
Any chance he gets the nod this upcoming season as the starter? He's a big guy, strong arm, seems like a "veteran" (even though he hasn't really played much). I like Nassib dont get me wrong, but I do not LOVE him. I always hear that Loeb is #2 in line, but have yet to see Marrone give the kid a real chance to show us what he's got.
I would be excited to see Loeb lead the team and mix things up a little.
WAKE FOREST
Interested to see how Wake Forest's prep for our game is affected by this hurricane. Anyone have any insight? They only have 5 full days before the game and North Carolina is getting hit hard.

Jarron Jones
Penn St. soft verbal...very high on SU still. 6'7 DT... He has offers from the likes of Ohio St/Florida and almost every other school. Why not offer him #44 jersey? It is reported he has the best relationship with our coaching staff out of any..Playing for the Orange, this kid could quickly become a household name and single handedly start the domino effect of bringing the Orange back to a national title contender year in and year out like we were not too long ago.
Local kid from Rochester should be wearing Orange, there is no doubt. The direction this program is going under Coach Marrone is simply incredible and unlike at Penn St., our coach will most likely be around for a long long time. Stability, playing immediately, being the face of the team. Whats not to like?
FOOTBALL SPRING GAME
I have noticed that a ton of highly regarded recruits, especially ones traveling from Florida, Texas, etc, are coming to check out SU's spring football game. I think its a very important time for SU fans to pack the dome and show the recruits that we are back and there is a buzz about our team now. Is anyone expecting to go? Tell your friends and spread the word. Sadly there is so little talk about it I dont even know when it is.
This is the lease the fans can do to help out recruiting.
THE REASON
Can someone please tell me why almost the entire second half Boeheim kept Fair, Melo and Kieta on the bench? RickyJ was tired and we had no help down low...and what did Southerland do? I don't understand how Boeheim is so bipolar and says that in this tourny Melo is our X factor, and then the next game takes him out early in the first half and never puts him back when (WHEN WE NEEDED A BIG GUY DOWN LOW).
This is my personal opinion of why we lost. Fair has been PHENOMENAL all year on getting offensive rebounds, driving, dishing etc. As much as I like Southerland shooting the occasional 3, he had NO purpose of being in the game for the whole second half. Does anyone else agree with me? I feel cheated in the fact that we had the players to win but our coach for no reason didnt put them in the game. What in the world was going through Fair/Melo/Kietas heads in the second half when they knew they could contribute but didnt even get a chance?
Rarely, and I mean rarely, do I ever point the finger at the coach...because majority of the time the players are in control...but this time I am just plain confused on Boeheims logic.

Look at this article! WOW

looks like there is a great chance syracuse has 2-3 players taken BEFORE the 5th round, which would be pretty amazing.

www.vouchboard.com
Hey everyone...this is the first, and last time I will use this site to talk about anything other than SU sports. However this does have relevance to Syracuse University (which we all support in athletics on here).
My best friends just launched a very very basic version of a webiste called www.vouchboard.com ...its basically a place where you "vouch" for people and write good things about them. only verified users and in order for something to be posted about you, you must accept/deny it. eventually as more versions of this come out they want everyone's vouch board to be helpful for potential employers to look at, social networking, and for just fun in general. Once you tell your friends about it and people start vouching for each other its really entertaining. The goal is for this to turn into a great way to learn about people/businesses and view what your contacts say about them....and I'm sure ANYONE will hire Sean Keeley when they see his Vouch Board lit up with hundreds of people saying fantastic things about him (he may be the most popular man in SU sports these days, followed closely by HCDM)
Anyways, this is a couple of SU students trying to be entrepreneurial and can't hurt to support them!
ITS 2:08PM AND I STILL HATE GEORGETOWN!
COMMITS
Football: Mungwa a great get for us, switched from Stanford to Cuse today. ALSO...Reddish a 3star WR from Brooklyn chose Cuse over Penn St, Maryland, UConn, West Virginia, Rutgers, Virginia....
The real question is, DO YOU THINK REDDISH COMMITTING TO CUSE WILL CHANGE ISHAQS MIND? The 2 know each other and both play football in Brooklyn..will this put Ishaq over the edge to really make him realize we are making progress here at Syracuse? Would love some opinions...
Duke sucks. Go Orangeeee.
mookie
his facebook status is this...
"Dam I get to back to peekskill today, feels like I'm getting out of jail on cause I been a good boy, smh, but ima enjoy these 3 days or it might turn out to me staying longer, wink wink"
do us all a favor and just transfer already! open up a scholarship for us. i TOTALLY understand him being frustrated with playing time, mannnn did i hate sitting out of games when i played ball. its really one of the toughest things you can be put through when all you wanna do is play. BUT he seeks pitty instead of either A)appreciating getting a free ride to SU or B)making the best of the situation he is in.
Kid can shoot the 3 but thats about it (no defense, rebounding, assists), hes very very one dimensional and he will not be used at all for the rest of the season unless its garbage time. i think hes a good kid but enough with this whining! The kid gets cheered by SU fans even through his past tantrums and he thinks SU is jail? come onnnn mannn do yourself a favor and transfer to a school where you can play so you can be happy.
football recruits
Anyone have more info on how this past big recruiting weekend went? Scout.com has an article about Keith Baxter, a player from FL who may switch from Marshall to SU and I am really interested in what it says. Can someone who has a scout.com account relay the info on that story? In the little info that is available on this guy, a website said how he may be one of the fastest kids to come out of the state of FL (i love these hidden gems we find). Seems like there were a ton of recruits up this past weekend and I don't know how the weather/Cater incident affected them.
'03 Champs baby!
PITT
Anyone have a clue how the Pitt football coaching change will affect recruiting for this coming year? Are there recruits that had major interest in Cuse as well that may make the switch? If we could get a couple 3-4 star recruits that were once Pitt commits it would be awesome. Cincy is down, Pitt is going through a coaching change, UConn's Edsall may bolt for a better job, Rutgers is back to being horrible. Seems like we are in pretty good shape!
BASKETBALL
I now dont even bother going to the PS basketball blog to read post-game reactions from the game. I am so sick of SU fans (including the coach) talk so much trash on this team. Yes we haven't been blowing teams out...but ya know what? WE ARE 8-0. We have played 2 teams from the ACC and 1 team from the Big 10...they are towards the bottom of their conferences but regardless they are decent D1 talent. ...and we've won! We are starting a freshman center and his backup is a freshman. We have 3 new starters in our starting 5 and a ton of freshman coming off the bench. Lay off these kids! If them winning isn't good enough for everyone then what is? A win is a win is a win, and everyone knows we have a crapload of talent on this team its just a matter of when it will finally mesh.
I am sick of the "we are going to get destroyed by Mich St" comments..Im sick of getting text messages and emails from friends saying how bad we look. Im sick of the Post Standard's blog that after victories all I hear is how bad we are. This is our team and maybe we aren't as good as we've been in the past, but that doesnt mean we are horrible. We are 8-0 and have found ways to win in close games...I think this SU fanbase should be looking at the glass half full instead of always half empty this season in basketball. Maybe if we rally around this team they will get some confidence and make some shots and surprise people at MSG this week.
TNIAAM for life.
BOEHEIM (and his big mouth)
Look, I love JimmyB as much as the next person on this blog. Hes a Hall of Famer, continually gets good recruits, and knows what hes talking about. But is anyone else sick of hearing him talk crap about this basketball team? All I am hearing and reading on tv and online about this squad is how JimmyB says they are the most overrated team hes ever coached in his 30+ years.
This is a team where in the offseason he said the freshman are as talented of a freshman class as he's ever had...and when he talked up Scoop, Triche, KrisJo and RickyJ. And now all of a sudden that the team is struggling early on he is ripping them apart to the media.
I am 100% fine with him ripping them apart on the court, in practice and behind closed doors, but lets show a little respect to these kids who are working their tail off to win basketball games. Maybe the chemistry isnt there yet and they are having a little trouble adapting with new players and new positions, but everyone knows having 3 freshman play significant minutes wont result in immediate blowout wins.
I personally think he needs to shut his mouth when it comes to bad-talking this team to the media. Maybe he should take a little credit rather than pointing the finger at all the players he has talked up so much before the season started. Yes we have had miserable first halfs but you know what? We are WINNING the close games. I dont care who they are against, because close wins at the beginning of the season make the team stronger as the season goes on. We have the talent, its just a matter of time before they all start clicking (and working well together).
JimmyB- do some more coaching with this team and less bad-mouthing to the media!
FUNNY
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/powerrankings/_/show/first
The link above shows what some of the analysts are ranking us preseason. Jay Bilas ranked us the highest at 4, with a couple others at 5 and then one at 7.......but GUESS who ranked us the lowest? Thats right, Gottlieb ranked us at 14.
He is a douche and every year he talks crap and then eats his words later on. What an idiot.
better on the road?
Why is it that we play extremely well on the road, yet struggle at home in the Dome? Do you think our team just plays better in an outside environment? I can tell you this, we are not as bad as we looked when at home vs Pitt...it just seems like we aren't ourselves. Especially against the cupcakes this year in the Dome it took us until the latter parts of the games to blow it open. I dont think the crowd has anything to do with it cause the dome was a rockin for the first quarter of misery against Pitt and we step it up in hostile environments @USF and @WVU.
Thoughts?
RICKY-J
I love all the yapping about Kris-Jo, Triche, Scoooopp, Fab Melo (damn were gunna be good this year)...
But you know what I love even more? The almost NO talk about Ricky Jackson. This is a player that may be the glue to this team down low on offense, as Melo is more of a defensive force until he matures more. Ricky-J is "that player" that ESPN analysts will say after a good game "Wow did Rick Jackson step up to help Cuse to victory". But in my eyes its not him even stepping up, because I think from watching the past 3 years of his play that he has good enough talent to play with the best.
I think we should be bowing to our assistant coaches for their development of un-athletic big men and turning them into forces down low. Remember Onuaku freshman year? Remember Ricky-J freshman year? They looked absolutely horrible with no athletic ability and they would legit throw up the ugliest shots ever. Now? Their footwork is impecable and they know how to get position down low for what they make look like easy buckets.
With Scoop/Triche/KrisJo leading the fast attack, I think the big men on our team will be a fantastic compliment to complete a very very well rounded Syracuse squad.
Oh and 1 more point. Why is it that EVERY YEAR a Syracuse player or 2 is not mentioned on the first team All Big East yet somehow they always end up on it at the end of the year? These analysts/coaches need to take a hint!
Root against Big East foes!
At the beginning of the season I was rooting for UConn (against Michigan) and Pitt (against Utah)....but let's try to all get on the same page here. Everyone knows the Big East is down, so at this point I have decided to root against every Big East doing well even if it brings down our conference even more. We have to remember EVERYTHING..and when I say everything I mean most things, evolve around recruiting.
The better players we get into this SU program the quicker this program gets back to the top. I want every single recruit out there to see Pitt, UConn, and especially Rutgers getting knocked on their feet and embarrassed on national TV. Every loss these teams get puts them one step closer to being on the same level we have been at for 5 years now. We all know we are headed in the right direction with HCDM, so let's hope to continue to see our Big East foe's struggle and recruits will start realizing which program is on the rise (CUSE).
Also, recruits will be taking official visits this season obviously so the more people in the dome to support this team, the better atmosphere will come from it....so let's try to play our part is helping us "show off" 'Cuse to these stud recruits.
MEDIA DAY
Today is our football media day...or atleast I thought it was. It is already 2:30 and I haven't seen or heard of any coverage from it. I'm curious to see how the uniforms look, which players are there, interviews pics etc. What is going on! This is a jab at the Post Standard, not really Nunes.. Is anyone else wondering why there have been no updates at all today?
Lets. Go. Orange.
RAUTINS
I dont understand people who are skeptical about Andy in the NBA. Its one thing to say "I just dont think he has the talent to play against the best in the world"...and its another to say "he cant play defense cause he went to syracuse and since hes mostly a 3 point shooter he may not be quick enough to get his shot off against the speed in the league".
Did any of these people who criticize Andy watch him this year? Yes, 'Cuse plays a 2-3 zone but I am pretty sure Andy was up there in steals and was a major force on defense all year (this is against the best of the best of big east talent). Andy's unbelievably fast catch-and-release will be a very good quality to have in the NBA and I honestly think Andy will be a great addition off the bench in year one and develop into a bigger role player as his career progresses.
I think this kid will surprise everyone, as he has already left an amazing impression on GM's around the league. This kid is a homegrown Syracuse guy who bleeds Orange in his family and I think him having a decent NBA career will mean a lot to the town of Syracuse and Orange fans.
I LOVE Wes Johnson, dont get me wrong. I think whatever team drafts him will be lucky to have a high character guy who will play hard and get along with all his teammates....but let's not forget Syracuse's own ANDDDYYYY RAUTINSSSS #1 who all Orange fans watched for 5 years develop into a great player infront of our own eyes.
I LOVE IT
Does anyone else sometimes sit around and think "wow I just love Syracuse". I think the pride the current students/fans/alumni have for this school are absolutely incredible for it being a small private school. I just want to go to the top a building and yell "I love Syracuse". I think Marrone is bringing this football program back and soon they will be dominant again. And my last comment is, I really think Dr. Gross has done a phenomenal job. Yes he hired G-Rob which was his 1 big mistake, but hey at the time of the hire NO ONE could have seen what we got coming. He was a big name coach who won a superbowl in the NFL with his great D. I think everyone needs to stop blaming Gross for G-Rob and start blaming G-Rob for G-Rob.
SU women's basketball, lacrosse, ice hockey, and field hockey are all in the top 10. Cross country is in the top 10. Men's basketball and lacrosse are in the top 10. WOW!
GREAT TO BE ORANGE
Wes
So everyone has been talking about Wes being a top 5 pick. But I am not hearing the other side of the story, which is him not only sitting out a whole year to play at 'Cuse, but recently noting how much he loves it there.
Is there a chance he stays at Cuse for another year?
PS. Ricky-J is one of the best under the basket scrappers I have ever seen...
PPS. Doug Marrone is a great coach
JERSEYS?
Today is the day, my friends....where we will witness a change in uniform once again. Will it be back to the original all orange helmets? Would love to see Marrone bring back the jerseys that the whole country recognized as CUSE. We shall see. What does everyone think.
Cant believe each post has to be atleast 75 words long this is ridiculous lets go cuse, lets go cuse, lets go cuse, lets go cuse
Bball season outlook
I wanna know what everyone thinks about the upcoming basketball season. Even with Flynn, Devo, and Harris gone, could we potentially be as good if not better? This is how I see things.
I think Triche may be the key to this team...if he does well we have potential for another tourny run. Rautins at the 2 is a no brainer, Wesley Johnson at the 3 may be the best in the country, Ricky-J at the 4 has proven to be a beast, and Onuaku down low is solid. Sounds like a potent starting 5 with a good mix of youth and senior leadership. We have depth with bench players like Kris Joseph, Scoop, Dashonte Riley down low and James Southerland.
If Triche is half as good as Jimmy-B claims, and Wesley Johnson lives up to his ridiculous hype, you add Rautins Jackson and Onuaku and you have a nice little squad. What does everyone think?

Thoughts on Ricky Rubio
I think its amazing how everyone is pulling for their team to draft Rubio. I personally feel like atleast 80% of fans who want their GM to draft him have NEVER seen him play. Obviously I haven't seen him in person, but has anyone seen a youtube video on him? His shot is ugly and he zig-zags through the European talent (which there is no chance of him doing in the NBA). Even Jennings who has played in Europe with him says hes a bust and all he can do is pass the ball well, which isn't enough to be a star in the NBA. The hype is understandable because he has been playing European pro ball since he was 14, but look at all these European busts in the NBA that were supposed to be sooo good. It's a different game with not as much talent. I think everyone should go to youtube, watch a video highlight of Rubio's game and tell me if you can really see him being an All-Star in the NBA.
There is no doubt in my mind that I would rather have Jonny Flynn leading my team than Rubio. There is not 1 bad thing to say about Flynn other than his height. His 3 point shot wasnt the best in college but scouts say he has stood out with having one of the best 3-point range out of all the PG's in the draft. The kid just has "it"....the intangibles. At the end of the day, whoever picks Flynn in the draft will be regarded as a "great pick", regardless if he goes 4-15. Jennings is a stud though and you can just tell he has talent up the wazoo. The upside with him is tremendous and he could also be a great spark to this team.
Jonny Flynn
Holliday has "potential" and has little "experience". Jonny Flynn has proven himself that he can stand out in the best conference in America against all the big boys. Hes made big plays at big times and has that natural talent that you can't teach. Jennings has been in Europe and not doing that well. Holliday had a very mediocre year at UCLA. Flynn left only his sophomore year and still put up the numbers and is ready to help a team NOW! He reminds me (and himself) of Chris Paul at nearly the same height and ball handling. There is really nothing bad to say about this kid other than he may be a little small, but my point before of Chris Paul's size shows that height doesn't stop point guards from being outstanding players (look at Brooks this year in the playoffs).
Overall, Flynn not only brings excitement, but he brings a good image on AND off the court. He knows that right things to say, the right way to act, and how to represent a team. I hope the Warrior's snatch him up because this kid could be a stud in this league for a long time.
To remind everyone, Lebron James befriended Flynn after seeing him kill the competition at the King James Camp. Lebron thinks so highly of him that he told his agent to scoop him up (which he did). Weeks before Flynn signed with Leon Rose (Lebron's agent), Lebron had Flynn fly to Cleveland to sit and talk with him about basketball. Lebron sees this kid as a potential superstar.
I don't know about you, but I want to win NOW. Flynn will give us that ability, while Jennings has played overseas without standing out (against European talent) and Holliday has yet to prove himself other than a magnificent recruit out of high school.
