My New Wallpaper
April 26th vs. Seattle
Anyone going to the first game of the Seattle series on the 26th? I'm planning on being there with a Battle of Grasscreek sign so stop and say hi.
Shortstop
From Buster Olney on ESPN.com "The Royals are among the handful of teams in the majors that increased payroll for 2009, and whether or not they will add more during the season, like with a midsummer trade, might be predicated on their attendance. Kansas City typically has drawn about 1.5 million a year, and if the attendance climbs toward 2 million, that might create more leeway for general manager Dayton Moore to pursue a shortstop midseason." What SS do you think Olney might be thinking about?
Bobby Crosby
He wants to be traded according to reports...would you be interested in the Royals trading for him? JoGui for Crosby? Keeps Teabag in RF, OF defense improves. Offensively is it worth it? Just thoughts...discuss.
Just in from the Caravan
Just got back from the Caravan in Hollister, MO. Grienke & Kila ended up being there instead of Meche and Davies as the poster said. Also Brian McRae and Dennis Leonard were there. It was at the YMCA, Zack and Kila like to play basketball. Grienke also said his top choice of FA's would be Hudson. I'll try to put up pics and maybe a little more feedback hopefully tomorrow. Overall good time!
The Caravan
The Royals Caravan is going to be at the YMCA next door to where I work! The poster says that GilgaMeche, Davies, Dennis Leonard, GMDM and of course Sluggerrr are scheduled to be here in little Hollister (Branson,MO). This just made my Jan. since I probably won't be able to attend FanFest. Now all I have to do is take a late lunch so I can go next door!
Nationals as a trade partner
With the Nationals getting Olsen and Willingham they now have quite a few guys for 3 OF positions. I would be interested in seeing if they would deal Dukes, Milledge, or Pena. Thoughts?
Sergio Rodriguez
His agent says he wants to be traded. Should the Bulls have talks with the Blazers for some sort of package deal?
Royals interested in Taveras?
According to MLBTR... "Taveras is also under team control through 2010. Ringolsby says the Royals, Yankees, White Sox, and Braves are in on him, while Renck adds the Nationals."...ready, set, react!

My trade idea
Kirk+Gooden to Sacramento for Miller/Bobby Jackson/1st Round Pick I think it can help both teams. Gives us a veteran backup PG and a decent C. Gives Sac a good backcourt and Gooden/Hawes would be okay in the front. Thoughts?
Grienke to Texas for...
it seems like most people think Grienke would go to the Rangers if traded. What is the most likely (or what would you want from Texas) return the Royals would get. My first choice (like most people here I would think) would be to sign Grienke long term, but if he made it clear he had no intention of doing that I would ask Texas for Kinsler, Salty, Cruz (and possibly one other throw in)
My Friend, the Cardinals Fan, says the dumbest things
Friend: "Kyle Lohse is a solid #2 starter"Me: "Yeah, for that team (St. Louis)"Friend: "No for any team" How do you have a conversation with someone who has no real interest in baseball?
Rangers
Okay I'm not for trading Grienke at all. However, if no new deal is worked out and doesn't appear that it will I would rather get all we can out of him. The Rangers make no secret of their interest in Zack. My question...what kind of a haul do you guys think we could get?
Trade Partners
who will Dayton try to match up with to overhaul the roster now that he appears ready to head in that direction?
Trade Proposal
On MLBTR chat
Does Ian Kennedy, Melky Cabrera and one of Edwar Rameriz or David Robertson land us David Dejesus?
Thoughts?

Off-season Targets
I know there have been lots of posts on this topic, but it is a boring Friday at work so I thought I would throw in my 2 cents. This would be my list of off-season objectives if I were GM.
FA Targets:
-Orlando Hudson
- Starting Pitcher (Perez,Sheets being top choices)
Trade Target:
-Matt Holiday
The question is what will the Rockies want for Holiday? We have the pieces to pull of a blockbuster but what will they want? I would start by offering Banny/Teabag/Lumsden/Pimentel (pitching is the currency of baseball) for Holiday. Would that get it done. I think it's a good offer. And you can replace Banny with a FA SP. The Royals have shown that they can deal with Boras so I think an extension for Holiday could get done.
I like the idea of a Hudson/Aviles MIF. Bring up Kila and split him and Billy at 1B/DH and I think you have a very solid team that can compete next season.
I was talking a lunch with a friend who is a Cardinals fan and I was saying that they need more parts than the Royals do to contend (they are overachieving this year) and these were my thoughts on what should be done.
Wo what does everyone think?

Jeff Francoeur
According to MLBTradeRumors:
The Braves will listen to offers for Jeff Francoeur and Will Ohman, and maybe Mark Teixeira if the Braves struggle in the next week. The Royals are said to be interested in Francoeur.
I think Francoeur would be a good pick up. What do you guys think that the Braves would want in return?
A DDJ, Guillen, Francoeur OF sounds nice so I wouldn't want to give up DDJ.
I would give them either Teahen straight across or maybe a Mahay + a prospect. If they didn't move Teahen what do you think his fate would be? Headed to the bench?
Bill Hall
According to MLBTR (as I am sure some of you have already read) Bill Hall is hoping for a trade. What does everyone think of him playing SS for our boys in blue. He'd be an upgrade at the plate. And he's not the worst on defense (he has to play the position better than German). I would be for it. Still would rather try to land Greene, but Hall would be a nice pick up also.
The question is what would the Brewers want in return. Any ideas?
Milton Bradley
Tim over at MLBTR suggested during the chat today that KC could be a possible destination if the Rangers decide to move him. Any thoughts on the idea of getting the guy we just missed last year? What would we give up? I'm guessing Nunez is no longer going to be the offer.
Bradley's bat would be nice, but I would rather try to figure out our SS solution. Besides that where would Bradley play on the field. A move or two would have to be made to compensate I would think.
THOUGHTS?

The Player I would like to get
Josh Fields and play him at 1st. He's a 30 HR guy plays good defense (could easily move across the diamond) and at this point I would think he wouldn't be too difficult to trade for. Then it becomes a question of who we give up for him. I would say some of the obvious choices would be
German, Gload, Grudz, Teahen, Shealy, possibly some pitching prospects.
Once we came up with a long term solution at SS we'd have our IF set for a few years.
Gordo, Fields and Callaspo, with SS X, sounds nice to me.
This basically just came out of boredom but I was something I'd been thinking about so I thought I would see what others think.
What moves make sense?
Will there be any major moves between now and the trade deadline?
Who will we get? What do we give up?
I know this stuff has been talked about, but something has to happen right? We are hanging in there in a Central that is struggling. You have to think if there was ever a time to try to make a blockbuster that this would be it. We have prospects and some position chips that we can use.
Khalil Greene
According to MLBTradeRumors the Padres are looking for a solution to CF and it talks about a Greene for Felix Pie trade. (I would assume that more would be involved here) My question is would a DeJesus + Prospect offer interest the Padres and be able to land Greene? I know I would love to have him at short instead of Pena. I like seeing Callaspo at short over Pena, but if we were able to land Greene and use Callaspo as a back up for this season that would be fine. It does talk about how short would be a hole for the Padres if they moved Greene so maybe a DDJ + Pena type offer would work. What does everyone else think?

The Draft
With the Royals having the third pick in this years draft who would everyone like to see KC pick? My personal choices would be either Aaron Crow or Pedro Alvarez.
Crow is just awesome, the dood is shutting down the Big 12.
With Alvarez I would move him to 1B and have our corners set for awhile ( I don't think it would take him long to be ready for the majors).
So what does everyone else think? What should be our priority with the #3 pick?
Backup OF
With DeJesus ankle leaving him uncertain as to when he will return to action that puts Gathright in as our CF for the time being (which I'm glad to see him in there). My question is are the Royals relying on German to be able to serve as a back up OF for the time being? Shouldn't they be bringing in Costa/Hollins or someone until DDJ is good to go to handle that back up role?
Nationals interested in Berroa?
According to MLBTR they are.
"The Nats are shopping Felipe Lopez, who's said he wouldn't be content on the bench. Rosenthal says the Nationals have their eye on awful shortstop Angel Berroa as a possible replacement, which is strange on multiple levels. Not only is Berroa not a Major Leaguer at this point, but the Nats plan to use Cristian Guzman at short."
Well if we get someone even okay then it's a win.
Bedard
Well this one is finally done. It's sad that the O's got a better package than the Twins were able to get out of Santana, not that I'm complaining I'm happy that the Royals don't have to face him multiple times a season now.
Now I guess it's the Joe Blanton sweepstakes? I'm saying Blanton goes to Boston with a package that involves Crisp. MLBTR actually suggests that Boston should try to get someone like Meche. I don't see that happening unless Boston offered a package that GMDM would be stupid to pass up, but I doubt that happens. What is everyone's thoughts on the Bedard trade or what trades do you see happening soon?
Ryley is here!!!
My boy Ryley Noel is here!!! He came in at 7 lbs 5.3 oz, 19 1/2 in. He has big hands so he looks ready to get a good grip on a baseball. It is so crazy to sit here and know that I am a dad. The nurses have been great, there's one who is a big baseball fan and used to take her kids to Royals games all the time during the glory years, so there's been lots of stories back and forth. Anyway just wanted to give our little community here the good news. Hope you all are having a great weekend, mine's not been bad. (Quick note, really enjoying the Brian Bannister Q&A at MLBTR)
New Royals Fan Soon!
My wife called after her doctor's appointment a little bit ago and said that she has started dialating so it could happen anytime now. It's exciting and kind of nerve racking. Just kind of along for the ride. The one thing that's certain is that the Royals fanbase will be increasing by at least 1. This year is going to be great, my first kid and a realistic chance at a .500 or better season, what could be better?
