Josh Hamilton in Houston this Friday
I received some tickets for a talk that Josh Hamilton is giving this Friday in Houston, TX. I am assuming it is about his journey through hardship and perseverance to succeed. Plan on taking my son since the wife does not want to go. I don't really want to go either but won't waste the tickets. I did not know if any Houston folks would be attending. Anyhow, here's the link to the event:

I figure there might be some interest in tilting back some suds in this town. There should be some good selections in this Busch-league town

2011 Napoli vs 2009 Mauer
2011 has been a wonderful year for Mike Napoli. The artificial ceiling he was constrained under in Anaheim has been eliminated and he has been able to flourish in a way not seen before in his career. Whether or not he can put up these numbers in the future seasons remains to be seen but in this Rangers' lineup he has become an absolute animal.

Houstonians GTG for Phillies Game Watching 5/20?
Since Comcast/FSSW is not broadcasting this game I was wondering if any folks are gonna gather at some random sports bar for viewing? I can think of the Yardhouse in City Center, any of the various BW3's, etc.

Cliff Lee gets "Gerry Davis'd" for 6 BB
"I felt like I threw a lot of strikes that were called balls, but whatever," Lee said. "It is what it is. I'm the pitcher. He's the umpire. It's [home-plate umpire Gerry Davis'] job to call balls and strikes, and he felt like they were balls, I guess. It is what it is.
"It's my job to throw strikes and force the other team to swing the bat. They made me throw a lot of pitches and drew a lot of walks. I'm typically not a guy that walks a lot of guys, but for whatever reason today that happened."
Most Squeezed Pitchers
I found an interesting link which compiles the list of pitchers being squeezed this year: XsqueezeMe

Roll call for AT&T Park Games 1 & 2
Who's coming to the park? I know there are a few Bay Area Angrydomers, but certainly some of you hometown heroes plan to represent correct? The wife and I are heading to games 1 & 2. Love to make a tailgate happen there or something.

Rangers, come out to play.... aka Roll Call for the Bronx
This team has given us fans the first title in the history of the organization, and last night was a masterpiece of "heads-up" baseball from this scrappy team. Although they are starting out in Arlington, the 3 games next week will be in one of the most hostile environments imaginable: The Bronx.
My Trip to the Trop!
Game 1 was surreal. I had trouble sleeping for the few days leading up to the game. Scheduling the trip was no easy task as the itinerary had to be altered multiple times to accommodate work, the wife, and TBS. I did not anticipate a large turnout from the locals, but what a mistake that was. The traffic was so congested driving to the field, and then there was inadequate parking so I had to park 2 miles away and missed most of the 1st inning. The Rays mascot had tried to "cheap-shot" me in the hall, and so the obvious solution was to tranquilize myself with copious amounts of beer. Of course, this led to my wife getting stuck with camera duty, and so only a few pix were captured

Roll Call - Who's coming to the Trop?
Trying to get an idea if any others are coming out. Maybe we can setup a tailgate over there or at least some rounds of brew. My wife and I are definitely going. Staying at the Westin Tampa Bay (I can get rooms for ~ $115 there) and flying in right now at 4:30p, but may switch to an earlier flight if the game is early on Wednesday. The Rays fans are weak, let's show our boys some support!

Post Season travel plans - it's Tine!
The post season schedule has been set here. We can count on the fact that on Wednesday October 6th and Thursday Oct 7th the Rangers will either be in Tampa or New York for the ALDS. The ALCS starts the weekend of October 15th but it is unknown if we will be away (most likely) in New York, Minnesota, or Tampa, or possibly at home. The World Series starts October 27th and we will definitely be away in either San Fran, San Diego, Colorado, Cincinnati, Atlanta or Philadelphia.
Mad Pears 1st half 2010
In my 30+ years as a Rangers fan, I don't think I have ever had as much enjoyment as this first half of 2010. I can recall some spectacular plays by the flying poodle Steve Buechele, Brian Downing jacking an opening pitch fastball off a cocky Roger Clemens, Juango murdering balls in the dirt vs the Yankees in the ALDS, Julio Franco winning the Silver Bat. I am very thankful for these memories but this season so far has had some really special moments. Here are my top 8:

Houston Comcast users
Seems as if Comcast in Houston has started broadcasting Ranger games on channel 110. It does not get listed on their internet guide but should show up on the cable box guide. They showed the Sunday 6/6 game, and the cable box guide shows they are broadcasting the Mon 6/7 and Tues 6/8 games. The Wed 6/9 game is too far in advance for programming information. I am guessing this is some kind of bonus programming!
Evan Grant - journalist or jezebel?
I am at spring training. After talking to some of the players over dinner it has become clear that Evan Grant has been intentionally propagating controversy amongst the players with regard to the CJ Wilson interview. Mr Grant actually printed out sections of the Wilson interview and presented it to players to try to spark a reaction. This action only served to foment discontent and friction between players, which he has now succeeded to some degree. I find this disgusting, but am not surprised based on the low level of Mr Grant's track record. As a fan, I would hope that journalists following my team would not try to create news rather than report it.
Pics from the Evil Empire 8/27
My 8/27 field trip to Yankee Stadium:
massive yet soul-less park. I was really expecting it to have more character like Camden Yards or Pac-Bell

AJ Burnett stifling Ranger batters:

even the grounds crew is ghey:

after hiding behind my beers waiting for the Yankee deluge on Nippert, somehow things start going our way. I was too busy shaking my head to get shots of Dustin Nippert painfully walking batter after batter, and was too stunned to snap any of Ian Kinsler's massive 3 run shot but here is Crush Davis delivering the death-blow:
"Hey look third base! I haven't seen that in awhile!"

Yankees pay homage to Andrus:

Once again, I was biting my nails with Jason Grilli in, and too scared to take any pics. He was outstanding. MVP of the game in my book. Bridged the gap until the young Jedi could come in:
CJ sez "Alex you look a bit bloated today"
"Nick you're my Twitter-buddy, but I'm buzzing your junk with 95 mph heat"

Suck it!

PIctures from Anaheim 8/8
Hotter than hell at the stadium. The sun seemed to never move from directly overhead. Great game, too bad we could not pull it out. Angels fans have alot of respect for us from what I can tell
Millwood jamming Figgins:
Hacktastic Hank Hammers one deep into right. The fans around said no one has hit one that far out there since Barry Bonds:
The old Jedi on the mound:

Took some pics from the game last nite. Had some sweet seats behind our dugout
One of the few missed swings:
Angels feeling like they got smacked in the face all nite:

nothing crushes the home crowd like a brutal linescore:
Scooter marches off with his head high:
Not this time!

CJ Wilson 7.1 IP 8 SO 2 BB 2 H 0.00 ERA
These are some dominant numbers. CJ is feeling good and is not having to pitch in pain. His mechanics are back to optimal and he has been impressing the Rangers staff. He is throwing hard with good control and getting strikes.
Meanwhile FF has a 4.50 ERA in ST. 10 IP, 4 SO, 10 H, 1 BB, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 1 HB. At this point is there any reason not to think CJ should be our starting closer?
