Bootcheck to the DL, O'Day recalled

http://losangeles.angels.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080609&content_id=2879491&vkey=news_ana&fext=.jsp&c_id=ana

Bootcheck allowed a game-winning grand slam to A's second baseman Mark Ellis in Sunday's 7-3 loss, and has allowed runs in seven of his 10 outings this season. Bootcheck opened the season on the DL with a left oblique strain and complained of elbow pain on Sunday.

An MRI exam taken Monday revealed injury.

"He came out of his appearance yesterday with a sore elbow, so we're going to evaluate him and have a move pending," manager Mike Scioscia said.

Moseley placed on DL

Angels placed RHP Dustin Moseley on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 2, with a sore right forearm.

Sean Rodriguez called up

Didnt see that coming, but they need to get someone who can play second up here and DLing someone was the only way

Rays claim Haynes off Waivers

Rays claimed outfielder Nathan Haynes off waivers from the Angels.
We hope this doesn't mean the Rays are done looking for a reserve outfielder. Haynes is an OK stopgap as a 25th man, if only because Carl Crawford's insistence on staying in left leaves the Rays without another option as a backup in center. However, he'd be a weak option if the team ever needed to play him more than twice a month. The 28-year-old hit .267/.313/.311 in 45 at-bats for the Angels in his major league debut last season. His arrival means Joel Guzman will head to Triple-A.

I guess Figgins lost his personal hitting coach

Escobar possibly done for the year

Kelvim Escobar revealed Wednesday that he has a tear in his right shoulder that could require season-ending surgery.
Escobar ceased throwing after experiencing discomfort in his shoulder Sunday. "I'm concerned, I don't know what's going to happen, I don't even know if I'll be able to pitch again," Escobar said. "I'm still young. I'll be 32 in two weeks, but retirement is getting into my head, because it's hard to rehab. I want to be out there playing, and I've done everything I can do to be healthy." According to the Los Angeles Times, Escobar plans to see if two weeks off improve his shoulder before likely seeing a specialist to determine whether surgery is necessary.

John Lackey to Miss Most of April

John Lackey is expected to miss most of April after being diagnosed with a strained triceps.

FROM ROTOWORLD
It's a new problem in a different location than the elbow soreness that limited him at the beginning of the spring. The Angels will shut him down completely for 3-4 weeks, so he's going to miss his first five or so regular-season starts. Dustin Moseley most likely will join the rotation as a fifth starter. With now three pitchers set to start off on the DL (Kelvim Escobar and Chris Bootcheck being the others), the Angels figure to attempt to pick up at least one middle reliever before the end of the spring. Darren O'Day suddenly looks like a good bet to make the team.

Holy crap our rotation is going to suck
Garland, Weaver, Saunders, Santana, Moseley

Vlad's elbow still hurting

Vladimir Guerrero said his elbow is still causing him problems 4 1/2 months after he was limited to DH duties in the postseason.
Guerrero said in early December that he was nearly fully recovered from what was being called triceps tendinitis. However, it seems to no longer be the case. Even though it continues to bother him, Guerrero said he doesn't want to be a part-time DH this year. "No, no," Guerrero said. "I'm a right fielder."

Nice job on being selfish and not wanting to DH too, Vlad.

Angels have interest in Eckstein and Erstad

The Angels have some interest in bringing back free agents David Eckstein and Darin Erstad, according to the Orange County Register's Randy Youngman.

I love the two, but please, no. Erstad is finished and we don't need Eckstein

Jose Guillen gobbling up the roids

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/11/05/MNM2T2U24.DTL&tsp=1

Veteran major-league outfielder Jose Guillen, who played part of the 2003 season for the division-champion A's, bought thousands of dollars of steroids and human growth hormone from a troubled Florida anti-aging clinic and had some of the drugs shipped to the Oakland Coliseum, business records show.

Nick Gorneault Claimed Off Waivers

Rangers claimed outfielder Nick Gorneault off waivers from the Angels.

We're not sure why a team that already has Jason Botts, Nelson Cruz and Victor Diaz feels the need to add Gorneault. The 28-year-old right-handed hitter has a history of putting up quality minor league numbers and probably would be a decent platoon partner for a left-handed hitter, but he doesn't have the long-term upside of any of the aforementioned players.

In other news, Edgar Renteria traded to the Tigers
