Black Heart Gold Pants Touchdowns for Kids and Iowa Football 2010

I don't know if this was mentioned or not...I didn't see anything about it, but did you guys see that we quietly surpassed our TD total for last year after our 5 TD performance against MSU? According to the TDs for Kids site, the Hawks had 32 touchdowns last season. This year, we have 37. And that's still with 5 games to go!

Not only is that great news for the Iowa squad, but it's great news for a great cause! If we score at least 3 TDs in each of our remaining games (including the bowl game), we should easily pass the 50 TD mark!

If I'm ruining some official announcement by BHGP, my apologies. I just felt like sharing the good news.

Black Heart Gold Pants I hate you, AIRBHG.

Seriously.

Hampton most likely out for season with torn left ACL.

It wasn't bad enough to lose this game partly due to the inability to run the game. But we had to go and lose a good running back as well. Awesome.

I think I'll wait for the coaches to confirm it, but right now, all I can say is "Fuck you AIRBHG. Do us all a favor and die."

If there was a shrine to you somewhere, I'd gladly burn it to the ground.

Black Heart Gold Pants Full video of the Koeppel crash

The previous video that was leaked/released was just the 4 seconds of the crash. This is a 20 second clip that shows the truck not even pausing before entering the intersection to make the left turn. Also shows Koeppel getting up on his feet, though clearly dazed, confused and probably in a bit of a shock.

Really hope Ferentz uses this to convince his guys to at least consider wearing a helmet.

Black Heart Gold Pants Iowa RBs and pass protection

Some thing that I've been thinking about ever since reading the post-game recap of the Vikings-49ers game from Sunday. They were talking about how integral Chester Taylor was to the pass game, and specifically with his pass protection abilities, while Adrian Peterson showed that he needed to improve his protection of the QB.

My question is... how is Iowa with regard to RBs in pass protection? With a relatively young and inexperienced OL, how much pass protection duty will fall on the RBs? More than usual? The same as before? Should it be a concern for the team?

Thoughts?

Black Heart Gold Pants Looking at the potential Iowa-Nebraska rivalry

Adam Rittenberg's Big10 Blog on ESPN.com had a good post about Nebraska and the Big 10, and he showed Iowa's record against the Big Red (12-26-3, btw). http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/13189/nebraska-vs-the-big-ten

If we count all 41 games, the average margin of a Iowa/Nebraska game is 15 points. The average margin of Iowa's wins are 15 points, and their losses are 16 points (approximately).

However, this counts the 10 games the two schools played BEFORE 1900 (including twice in the span of two days in 1896). The two schools played relatively regularly during the early to mid-1940s. On a side note, the two schools played only twice while the legendary Nile Kinnick played at Iowa (1937 and 38). They did not meet during his 1939 Heisman trophy winning season.

After 1946, the teams did not meet again until 1979, after which the two have played six times. Nebraska has more or less crushed the Hawks five of those times, with an average margin of victory of over 30 points. Iowa's one win came with a 3 point win (though one of Nebraska's wins was also a 3 point win).

Being in the same conference now, and most likely the same division, the two schools have an excellent chance to restart a very old tradition. Hopefully, though, the series can be a bit more exciting than they have been historically...

Thoughts?
