anti trust legislation
as usual, i think some of the su fans are missing the major point. as a typical anti conformist who always roots for underdogs like the bills and chicago land cubs, i would favor folks challenging the big 11 as far as legalities. and base this on work allready done by lawmakers in the congress about bcs and their favortism towards leagues like big 11 in post season bowls. as far as i know, top teams from the wac? and mountain west? can play with anyone.utah and boise state in past couple of years have taken on ou sooners and bama tide and won.so i think there is area case of being able to challenge the big 11on that basic. as well as the new commissionare getting off his butt and getting proactive, inviting say east carolina, central florida to big east. hey, why not try some pay back with acc and m ake overtures to boston college and even maryland to return to playing their tradidional eastern rivals? i dont expect miami and vt to ever come back into the fold , oviousily.
dream" big east football conference
this is my take on what big east football should be for inhanced market value and prestiage.BE west: notre dame, cinci, louisville, pitt, and wvu. lots of natural ohio river geo rivalrys there. east: bring back boston college-(but only if they make a public apology for their dasturdly ways!), su, rutgers(tho i think they should exiled to bratsylvania or bohemia, someplace where all clods from joisey" would be really happening, ala "a couple of wild and crazy guys". as well, keep ct of c ourse, and take your pick of either navy or maryland. big time geo rivals there, rutgers allready in the past few years has been drubbed by their rivals down the 1-95, navy and maryland. i would have to pick maryland over navy, unfortunatley. however, if we added maryland, why not make it a 10 team conference by adding both keeping south florida and and adding navy?? it all sounds logical to me, for tv exposure and marketing, right? in new england and mid atlantic areas, as well as southern midwest
big game bob""
gonna be lotsa fun to see if the boomer sooners can avoid yet another total disaster in a bowl game, recent record, 0-4. and i don't really understand, how a team that rounds up top talent at all positions with a pro style pass type attack can be miserable failures in bcs bowl games ala the buckeyes. and me not having a clue when it comes to football, some of the experten" out there have to explain why a team like the sooners that recruits statues year after year to stand motionless in the pocket , loses big time games? and these highly recruited prototype nfl wanna be's at qb? how come they never make it in the nfl? jason white, thompson, josh heupel, and nate hybil? not exactly breakthru's a the next level, eh? even the games they won at bcs level years ago, neither heupel or hybl were exactly setting the world on fire in either game, with completion and td ratios. and how come texas tech, qbs never seem to be big stars at the next level? a opton afieciendo like me.. nicht versteh?? lots of talent surrounding them, game plan that says pass first, run second? seems like these guys would be perfect fit for the al mighty next level-NFL! it will be entertaining, anyways, just like last year, when the spread opton" we never pass" but somtimes threaten to".. laughing.. of WVU ran all over mr heisman guy and the sooners. at least we dont have to watch 2 teams playing the same mindless wanna be NFL offense and defense vs each other. the only time i ever can remember the nfl doing anything different was the john riggins"H" back stuff years ago. naturally, just about every team in the nfl the next year was foolishly trying to play their own second rate version of riggins as "h back",,
college pass ing game
this is difficult for me to concede . sorta like chief joseph: i will fight no more for ever! howsomever, i will admit, i was amazed, totally, at not only the utah pass attack, but even the longhorn aerial attack i saw last nite. with utah, they were playing pretty good sec defense, and a overall pretty good team, that had been ranked numero uno for quite a while. they did have that samoan power back run in for a td. but the utah qb himself, runs very seldom after being injured couple of years ago. seemed like a very unbalanced offense to me, but they really did a job on the bama defense. and not only is the SEC the best conference, around, they have a great reputation for quick defensive lineman ala tim green and freeney. so being a run option kind of guy, was very impressed by the quick passes of utah. and same thing with UT win last nite, the mcoy kid did run into end zone for td, and has some scramble ability, but in general, it was like 400+yards in air, and like 80 on ground. not well balanced, but they won. and the last drive using the sidelines, for time constraits was state of the art. so ... even tho i am a opton run first guy, gotta admit.. i think this somewhat horizontal short pass stuff was what grob was striving for, and just never achieved. i could have swore that osu, with a far more balanced attack, was gonna win. seems like now a days, the really sophisticated pass attacks with primo personal, such as usc, ut, and utah, are quite difficult for many teams to stop, ala the high scores seen in the big 12
holiday bowl/opton juco qb?
could have been a stirring win from behind. but belloti as usual, prouved what a fool he really is! recruiting qbs like dixon and masoli will lead within a year or 2 to a total nadir of quaker backer duck football. and as we have prouved more then once, at good ole SU- its senseless to even bother to recruit a juco qb like masoli. much less to have a opton-oops dual threat mobile" qb such as masoli run up huge yardage with the spread opton. 106 yards alone from just the qb, as well as his aerial assault on a pretty darn good cowboy osu team. and to reiterate- it is very possible to get a AS degree in forest tech/surveying from ESF/SU! but what i dont unerstand, is that coaches like belloti.. consistly recruit really good talent while running the opton type attack , as well as say wvu, VT.. and of course the GT coach, who won consistly with it year after year at navy, and tonite is playing LSU in a bowl game. according to all the experten" on this site, u have a catch 22. namely, that if dont recruit a drop back statue who hops ala grob " in the pocket, your future is limited. since of course, every qb in hs, wants to play a pro set on college so he can go on and be a big star in the nfl. of course, as far as i am concerned, u can have a game manager"qb" , not really a big talent, but i f u have a fine defense, running attack, special teams, and kicking game, it can take u all the way to the top.
grobs ny wall"
marrone is gonna have his work cut ouf for him and his staff. kinda sad to see, only one su kid on the big east all freshman team.. hopefully, we can re assert ourselves in both lawn guy land" and also new joisey". and of course, thru the years, strangely enough, some of the best SU players, freeney, little, etc, have come from mass and ct. if we can unearth say every year, 4-5 florida players that FSU, miami, gators, south and central florida, and fau have not picked off all ready.
nicht versteh?? non capisce'?
i feel sad about this, but just like after grob was hired, and i started to get cynical. kinda funny, all these types jumping on the marrone bandwagon over on syracuse .com. i just guess i got to question.. the spence and adkins hires. but i am sure they are both happy, since they were both gone at clemson and respectively tennesee. just is kinda odd, hiring coaches who as far as i know, were either fired, or gonna be fired at both colleges. and i might add.. all these folks happy to take coaches from clemson and tennesee. the truth of the program was, both programs were rapidly approaching door mat status ala SU. and why would this adkins abruptly leave GA for a one year job at troy state? i dont get it. but i figure we are gonna see yet more of the ye ould cronyism" ala grob. as well as outmoded and obselete nfl offenses designed to mystify-yuk-yuk.. college defenses.. just like grob and the thrilling dink pass offense.
strike zwei/dos/dieu/2 vs marrone
numero uno being that he came here from the nfl. number 2 is the garrett barnas deal. thats flatout dishonarable as well as disgusting. if nothing else, i am a big fan of PSU's jo paterno since he votes republician. but they have had kids hurt in hs they they honored the scholarship offer , anyways, even tho there was no way they could college sports . and apart from legree.. this means u are gonna have to continue the pathetic win the nfl way".. nonsense, thats made SU football the laughing stock of college football for years now. and i totally agree with the harpur college coach. he is just doing what comes natural, standing up for his kid. what just happened, u wait and see, is gonna be used by a vast multitude of opposing coaches as far as how su treats kids they are trying to recruit. these new guys may not realize it, but they just set back SU football back big time. and i am not impressed by this new guy from clemson whatsoever. cept for the woodrow dantzler" ?? was that his name? all that freaking clemson has been doing for years is a typical nfl type of stale offense. dude dont impress me as some kind of genius with outside the box unique thinking. and the harpur college coach was right on the money, when he declared SU football as the detroit lions and doormat of college football. truth hurts. far as i m concerned, this juco kid had more athletic talent than all the rest of the qb recruits currently on the team.figured he might be a year 2008 version of bill hurley or marven graves, as far as style of play and size. these new guys are allready a embarrasment.
anselmo
that really is very postiive. its really been a bummer in the past to lose all these great recruits from nyc and long island to ND,penn state,UVA, rutgers, CT,WVU, and wisconsin and nebraska. i think its ovious this guy as got some great connections in the whole down state area. and i have to say that i have always felt that its not just hs coaching ranks, but in general, not much respect is shown to middle school and high school educators.also, i would be overjoyed, if coach marrone recruited at least a couple of blue chip junior college kids every year. and it seemed for the most part, under grobs era, that we really had very little sucess in recruiting florda at all.
rival/dienhart=grob to LSU?
guess he is being considered for head d coordinator at LSU, and mitch browning for same postion cept as offensive coodinator at illinois. i can understand perhaps, the browning offer, but its way beyond my comprehension les miles offering a job as head honcho of the LSU defemse.. strange.. very strange..its gonna be very interesting to see how coach marrones choice is for the same positions here at syracuse.be great to see any past su players who are coaches now a days.
urban meyer as imbecile..
after reading some of the posts here, i came to my senses, and realized the truth. namely, that coaches like paul johnson at GT.. urban meyer down here in. gainesville.. that coach at oregon.. just nothing more then complete utter fools who are driving these programs to ruin.. when the qb recruits wake up and realize that they have no future in the nfl, it is over.. adios GT/florida gator/oregon duck football programs.. the only way to go is the grob or weis way.. tacking dummies..ooops.. i mean future eli manning statues.. hopping around like a b unny in the pocket. heads swiveling about, making multiple reads like a radar guided phalox" aa mount.. but body remaining motionless cept for a hop or 2 .. dreaming about their wonderful career in the nfl.. i so far in past few years have been astounded by the sheer genius of weis at ND.. grob here at SU, and lets not forget the head honcho at pitt.. dave wannstead. LONG LIVE THE NFL. THE PRO SET, and the amazing grobb style west coast offense.. 3 yard sideline pass and cloud of dust! talk about dynamic, exciting football!
SU recruiting woes
i think one of the other guys had the right concept.. one of the keys to us winning was having a very talented opton qb carry" the team.. and for a long time, we only had to compete vs nebraska.. time after time, a talented hs opton kid would choose between us, nebraska.. few other teams.. navy.. with the advent of all the mobile qb.. started few years ago, all of sudden, even teams in the big east, our own conference, VT..WVU , started playing opton guys 7-8 years ago.. much less in other places. so .. the other guy also had it right.. tim tebow and vince young are physical freaks.. linebackers who are incredibely strong and fast.. who can throw the ball and play qb.. wheras the dropback guys who just have to deal with throwing the ball and managing" the offense.. are much more commonplace. and the opton guys are gettng so popular, that they are even playing dougster" cloner flutie guys at schools like kansas or mizzou.guys only 5'10 or 5"11.. i never thought i would see that ex coach of Bc- tom whats his name.. coached with george welsh at navy.. graduated from navy, now down at NC state.. the opton qb they got down there a t NC state.. i was sitting in sports bar.. when their team was beating UNc- and one nc state fan is screaming-no lie.. this kid is the next "DONOVAN MCNABB!".. this kid is amazing, i wish we a talent like that right now , only freshman, i think..
Georgia tech= obselete offense?
i do find it hilarius, all the naysayers, who were making fun of them hiring the coach from navy.unlike su, navy now has, what? gone to bowls like 5 years, or 6? in a row. despite what anyone would say, the average ACC team is not chopped liver. it was pretty amazing to see them running up massive 400+ yards, rushing vs what i consider pretty good teams like georgia, and miami.. and according to the new coach, from navy.. they are gonna start working real hard, considering he has much better talent, at gt, at not simply running the ball, ala opton, but throwing the long ball .. to open up the defense. and actually, gt with the opton in the ACC. was tearing off more long gains, more excitng football, then the typical west coast dink pass offense. for right now, the coach f rom hawaii, is not doing so well, at SMU with the pass happy offense..could be talent level, i admit.. i am very impressed with the young dual threat" opton qbs i have seen play at BAYLOR.. NC STATE.. and even penn state now as well as ohio state are featuring-- dual threat" qbs.. and forms of spread-opton offenses..
new york state recruits
i hate to mention the name, grob, but gotta reiterate.. pretty important, i was happy to hear that m arrone also like grob, feels strongly bout ny state football. granted, we are not talking houston SoCa, miami.. or new port news Va areas as far as talent- but believe it or not, this kid who set all kinds of td records 2 years ago at michigan state, power back .. came right from a tiny town in southwest tier area southwest of buffalo, where i grew up.. and we simply have to make a strong effert once again, to get kids from long island and nyc. it really has been depressing to see both rice and the other back 2 years ago, from ny state, playing for rutgers and setting records.. drafted by nfl..
new juco qb
watched some of the film provided by su website.. size and quick wise.. this kid from chicago land, seems like a postive copy of either marvin graves, or bill hurley. with all the o lines problems.. for years now, it would be great to have a qb who is a threat to rack up the first down or more if coverage is not contained by the D. what the big problem is with any D facing the gators.. is tebow.. the fullback.. its fearsome to have a 6'3", 240 lb guy who can either j umpshoot the pass at the 5 yard line, or easily flat out run over the typical line backer, much less dbs. now a days, its all about multi-tasking" qbs.. tebow is very lethal in and around the red zone.. and the gator's staff is very clever at using his presance to intimidate the defense.witness the play vs bama, late in game, where they naturally bit on him running the opton.. and he did the shovel pass at 5 yard line back in other direction to his tight end, stroke of genius..
new offense?
i tryed to decipher all the marrone speech- but am curious as to what kind of offense he is gonna run. i sincerly hope its not some psuedo nfl west coast throw dink passes like 50 times a game, that average 3 yards apiece. with the juco qb on hand, maybe we can revert back to some version of the freeze opton or the wvu or gator qb run/throw opton. usually.. this form of gimmick" offense gives teams like mizzou or kansas, much less oregon, a chance to play with the big time powers..
