Blogging The Boys 2012 FA and 1st Round Projection

1. Throw the book at Carl Nicks. He’s an elite player at his position and I’m tired of sub-par players on our offensive line. Let’s face it, we hope our T*LENT at the skill positions will bail us out but at crunch time they can’t block and execute their assignments (I refuse to write that dang T word).

a. Get Ben Grubbs if Nicks doesn’t pan out.

Blogging The Boys Who ya Like in the first Round?

So in case any of you missed my last article, I am completely against a Defensive Back in the first round. I wouldn't MIND a Defensive Lineman but i would really like to see our O-line beef up. So if you absolutely had to...no way no how...if you didn't the bus would fall under 50 mph...who would you pick as a OL in the 2011 Draft?

Blogging The Boys So we're impressed with Prince Amukamara are we? PASS

So as I browsed the plethora of mocks found across the web, I recently Tweeted a source who had suggested in their third mock draft update that we, The Dallas Cowboys, are still en route to pick up Nebraska CB, Prince Amukamara. I for one don’t really understand the ABSOLUTE necessity to get a DB in this year’s draft. Let’s look at the future of each position that I believe are in greater need than our secondary briefly:

Blogging The Boys What JUST Happened with our 2010 2nd Rd Pick???

So i begin this tale of me, looking into my daily browse of Dallas Cowboy news to find this GEM of a peice written on the beloved Big Ten Teamer, Sean Lee. I look to my suprise the following headline:

Sean Lee won't be used as nickel LB

Check out the full article HERE

So explain to me how the heck this works out. We all thought this guy was going to jump in and create SOME sort of releif for either Keith Brooking or for Bradie James right? Apparently we just got dooped.

As i remember hearing on the NFL Network, "The guys you draft in the second round are just as valuble as the guys in the first, unless you pick in the top ten of the first round." Sean Lee is supposed to be part of the 64 guys who are SUPPOSED to make an impact immediately in the NFL.

Injury concerns? NAH. He played in the BIG TEN. Injuries will pass, he will heal and get into it. As we all know, depth is crucial in this league, and we as of this point don't have any in KEY AREAS.

Oh and by the way DEZ doesn't play nickel LB either folks.

Blogging The Boys Why are we not Looking at Logan Mankins?

Can someone explain to me why the heck we aren't looking at Logan Mankins, Guard, from the New England Patriots? Yes, i have seen the deal he wanted from New England but for F's sake...this guy was a FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK from 2005!!! HOLY CRAP JERRY...a first rounder on the offensive line...really...REALLY.

How many games has Mankins missed since his rookie year? My research, ESPN, says none. Absolutely...none. You're going to tell me we can't find MORE than enough value in durability in an Offensive Lineman?

I'm getting really sick and tired of this team passing on OL in the first round, and you hear people in the media talk about "Jerry wants his first round pick to sell jerseys or sizzle."

Kyle Kosier and Leonard Davis are getting old. Really friggin old. Tell me with all of your heart Davis mauls people as much as you'd think a guy his size should. Kosier is hurt AGAIN!!! Yes i understand the recent picks with Sam Young, Phil Costa and Travis Bright...i get these guys are around for depth. BUT THEY AREN'T proven!!! They need time to develop and they need more coaching.

More importantly, those guys need people to learn from. This is Kyle Kosier's last year on contract, I say we need to make a move, we don't even know if Kosier will be back right  away after the bye.

Should we take a serious look at Mankins if Kosier is out for an EXTENDED amount of time?

Blogging The Boys Safety Darren Sharper in Dallas?

So here we are friends. Almost a week after overreacting on our first two draft picks, possibly blacking out when Iupati and Pouncey left the board back to back and then hearing we gave up a third rounder, followed by people insisting that we shouldn’t expect too much of Dez Bryant…we find ourselves days away from the first official meeting for our beloved Dallas Cowboys and the first official minicamp.

Excited? You bet. But how about this bit of knowledge coming from senior Schefter of ESPN?

Sharper to the Cowboys?

Could Darren Sharper be a bridge until AOA gets up to speed, or help groom out Safety prospects in Hamlin, Ball and AOA? Time will tell and we’ll see if we even get a chance to make a play on him.

By the way, anyone heard anything on Jared Gaither?

Well now, looks like maybe Cowboy Roy is getting a sigh of relief. Everyone's board looks a bit cleaner after Thursday but with the lack of a 3rd rounder and an added 4th (trade for Dez Pick with New England) looks like we're trying to get some help with Sam Hurd.

I never (yes i did, but I am presently on the Doug Free train now) said Free shouldn't be our LT, all I said it'd be nice to have Jared Gaither, Free and Marc Colombo all enter 2010 with a competition in mind.

Blogging The Boys At last...My attempt at a Mock...be gentle

So as of late, all I've been doing is ranting and raving over why we need Jared Gaither this...we need depth at the O-line that...I can't eat because I'm too nervous about the NFL Draft...blah blah blah. I am now, diving into the realm of mocks, and hoping to be a productive as many of you out there:

Without further ado...

Round 1: Earl Thomas/Nate Allen, S, Texas/USF- Shut up and make a move...we need a play maker and we might as well do it.

Round 2: (no pick) BECAUSE WE WENT AFTER JARED GAITHER...WILD CARD! YEEEEEEEHAW!!!

Round 3: J.D. Walton, C(G?), Baylor- Need youth everywhere and this guy is a solid pick up.

Round 4: Ciron Black, OT(G?), LSU- Agian, fits our mold and could follow the steps of Colombo with some grooming.

Round 5: Shawn Lauvao, OG, Arizona State

Round 6: Jamar Chaney, LB, Miss State

Round 7: Hunter Lawrence, K, Texas- I still feel like Buehler can earn the job.

SIDE BAR: Possible guys we can pick up in the 4th Round on (instead of my picks).

           Darryl Sharpton, LB, Miami

Blogging The Boys Free at Left Tackle isn’t a "WIN NOW" Move

The reason I state “WIN NOW” is because it seems as though the organization has been in the position for some time now to elevate its standards and expectations from everyone on the team. Sound great, but why aren’t we doing that for Doug Free…anymore?

Remember everyone; we haven’t had two successful back-to-back seasons for quite some time now. Letting Free and Colombo slide into their positions isn’t good for business, and last time I checked, our Cowboys were in the business of winning.

Now by no means am I saying “Doug Free cannot play Left Tackle.” Hey he did fairly decent against Jared Allen in the playoff loss in Minnesota, considering: he was playing Right Tackle and has been practicing that position all season, oh and how would you do if all of a sudden you’re asked to strap up and take on a Pro Bowler in the middle of a divisional playoff game? Good Times…

Let’s be honest, Last Thursday we were all in the position to see Colombo, Adams and Free compete to play in the 2010 season. Doesn’t anyone else think a three man race for the tackle positions would’ve been best for our team? We all KNOW Free can play right tackle and everyone at Valley Ranch has been raving over Free’s productivity in “open space” and I’m sure his potential is unquestioned. But why are we being complacent with the areas that we’re trying to bulk up and excel at?

Picture this: “Free, Colombo and Gaither to compete for Offensive tackle positions.” What part says complacency here? Everyone do some research, Baltimore has stated they want a 2nd rounder for Gaither (need to get rid of him or they’re going to be forced to pay high O-Tackle money for both he and Oher). I’ve seen A LOT of mocks say we pick up Ducasse in the second anyway. Value picks anyone?

I think we need to pick up the pace and really make moves in this draft, even if it means moving up. Gaither is there to shore up or at least improve the depth at one position. At this point, sell me on a round house package to swing up and catch Earl Thomas if you ask me.

Folks this for sure throws EVERYONE's draft or mock completely out of whack!!!

I guess we'll have to see what the next weeks bring for the Cowboys. Remember guys, JJ is in a "win now" position. How do these two moves help us in that form?

Like i posted before...not sure i like showing this much before the draft.

Blogging The Boys KEN HAMLIN no longer a COWBOY!!!

Sources indicate and VERIFIED that Safety Ken Hamlin is no longer with the Dallas Cowboys. Although leads indicate that there is an actual "move" in place, we're not sure if it's a straight up CUT or TRADE.

Story borke out earlier when Ken Hamlin indicated the news via his Twitter page and has been confirmed via twitter with Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen.

So where does that put us? Are we for sure going for Nate Allen? Or are we flat out selling out for Earl Thomas in the early first round? There go anyone's mocks, but we'll wait and see what happens!!!

Blogging The Boys I couldn't find one...so let's do a Jared Gaither POLL!!!

So is it me or has this idea lost a ton of steam since it was first brought up? Jared Gaither for, what I understand, our 2010 draft. Then I hear it’s for a “high” second. Then first round tender (1st and 3rd of this year right), at the end of the day…does anyone have a serious down swing for this guy??? I personally don’t but hey that’s me.

So what do we think? Go for Gaither and maybe make a move with our remaining draft picks for Allen in the 2nd round? Hell if we land Gaither I will gladly forget about Maurkice Pouncey and jump on the Fs train for the second round. Now, I will say…my dream draft was somewhere in the lines of Gaither AND Pouncey but then I’m going the get all the “too much too fast” comments on using our 2010 draft on the offensive line (excuse me for thinking about the future).

But either way, let me know what you think. To all a good day...

Blogging The Boys Wide Receivers=Ruining the 2010 Season

“There were several economic questions that a lot of you won't care about, so let's quickly skip to the good part. For the first time since his surprising decision to release T.O., Jones admitted that he made the move because he thought it would make Tony Romo a better quarterback. He said he never sought input from Romo while deciding what to do with T.O, but in the end, he thought the combination of Roy Williams and Miles Austin was a more appealing option.

That's when my ears really perked up. Jones has talked about Austin's potential in the past, but on Tuesday he indicated that the undrafted wide receiver was already in T.O.'s league.

"We know this, if [Austin] is close, then you're ahead of the game simply because of where they are in their careers," said Jones.

I then asked Jones if he truly thought Austin could be as good as T.O., which quite honestly, sounded absurd to me.”

Blogging The Boys 2010 Prime Time Schedule Release

As it turns out, the Prime time schedule will not be released until mid-April. For some reason i decided to not follow up nor look into this stuff until today. Sad, i know. Disheartening, most definitely. the worst part is that you start hearing the Arizona Cardinals might be hosting one of the opening weekends games. Doesn't anyone else think there should be some level of heirchy when deciding who/where the opening games should be?

Confirmation of Delayed Schedule

Who in the heck wants to watch the opening Thursday/Sunday/Monday night games at: ANYONE in the NFC West, Browns, Bucs, Redskins, Eagles (F Philly), ANYONE in the AFC West?

There might be some more guys in there but honestly I don't think i need the schedule released right before the draft. I need a fix here and there. not happy with the league thus far.

Blogging The Boys Draft Value Charts

Now in case you haven't heard,  there have been multiple sightings of said "Draft Value Charts" roaming around. In my previous attempts to make a mock draft, i have been stuck in a perpetual cycle of assuming people will be left here and why the crap won't he get drafted there...so instead i was wondering if anyone knew how the Draft Value charts worked for this year and included picks for our 2011 draft.

check out the NFL Draft Order and Value Chart

To my understanding, if you want, say pick 14, you need to package picks together to add to the value of said pick, 14. For instance, if we wanted to move up to pick 14:

Pick 14 holds a value of 1100. Our first pick, 28 hold a value of 680. So in order to inquire some sort of trade, we would more than likely package our first round (680 value), second round (310 value) and probably our third (140 value).

Now I know what you’re thinking, this is insane…why would we sell our draft for one pick? This is the scenario (to my knowledge) if we wanted to ask Seattle to switch their 14th overall pick.

Teams wanting to trade down and other jibba jabba is for another day. I want to know…what about next year’s picks? What if we wanted to go high second round and were willing to shell out our 2011 second round pick and switch our 2010 2nd round pick with someone?

That my friends, is where I’m at a loss. I want to know how the 2011 draft plays into this year. If anyone knows, please chime in.

Btw, if Iupati falls to us in the first round…I’m hoping we wheel and deal to land a mid-high 30’s overall to swipe Pouncy early second round

Blogging The Boys What is the Real RB Situation?

Ladies and Gentlemen of our dear Dallas Cowboys Nation, I come today before you not as a stats guy, not as a pictures/graphs/charts/PowerPoint guy, but as a “words” guy. As it did last offseason the debate over our current Running Back situation has currently picked up steam and is really starting to take over any other talk about the Cowboys upcoming season.

I prefer this be the focal point of our team other than the current safety situation and everyone’s ABSURD infatuation with picking up a receiver higher than the third round. Oh yeah that’s right and our D-bag of a TE, but that’s for a later discussion.

What I ask all of you, is…What is the REAL question over our Running Back Situation?

Where has all of the “how do we use all three running backs” gone? Does no one else think that by focusing solely on the MB3 and Felix tandem we literally take a step backwards in our progression towards a Super Bowl?

We have passed dishing TC for draft picks, we have paid The Barbarian the money to be a prime time guy and Felix is playing like a first round draft pick.  I thought we made it clear TC was our insurance policy in case we ever legitimately lost Felix and Barber (again).

Take the Excerpt from ESPN’s Tim MacMahon:

“In the interest of fairness and balance, I’ll provide two points a rationale person might make while presenting a case for Barber to keep the starting job: 1) Jones’ durability is a concern after toe, hamstring and knee injuries caused him to miss 12 games in his first two seasons; 2) Barber’s physical style wears down the opposing defense, setting Jones up for success as a change-of-pace back.

Jones, who had no significant injury history at Arkansas, proved that he can handle a larger workload down the stretch of the 2009 season. He did just fine while getting double-digit carries in the last six games, including the playoffs, which he opened with a 16-carry, 148-yard performance in the drought-ending win over the Philadelphia Eagles. And durability is also a huge concern for Barber, who faded badly while fighting injuries in each of his two seasons as a starter.

When Barber was sidelined by a thigh injury against the Carolina Panthers, Jones proved he doesn’t need a set-up man, rushing for 94 yards on eight carries. (OK, then Jones hurt his knee, but we already dealt with that issue.) The stats indicate that Barber is actually the one who benefits from working as a change-of-pace back. Just look at how drastically his yards per carry and touchdowns have dropped since he became the starter.

So Jones is clearly the better back. And Barber is clearly better as a backup.”

OK…fine whatever. Felix one, MB3 two and TC 3. Great.

I asked people what they thought about using TC as our return man/punt return man… “not fluid in the hips and lacks the hands” THAT’S WHAT TRAINING CAMP IS FOR.

Folks, all I am saying is let’s stop fixing what isn’t completely broken. Let’s get back to instead of a 1-2 punch…a 1-2-3 super punch/sonic boom (I referenced Guile because he’s American. And since we’re America’s team he’s the only one I see fit to do so…DO NOT mention Balrog because you will lose any credibility with me whatsoever.

I rest my case…

Blogging The Boys The Inevitable yet Spontaneously Elementary Truth…

The Inevitable yet Spontaneously Elementary Truth…

So everyone seemed to hate my last article, the NO WR in the first 3 rounds idea, the Earl Thomas is going to fall to us in the second round…yet I meant making a move for those two potential first round players.

I was laughed at when I suggested Jerry couldn’t POSSIBLY put together an absurd deal, for a lowly, confused and desperate bottom-of-the-barrel franchise, that was too good to refuse.

It’s official: FOOTBALL SEASON is over. The #1 I thing I take from this past season? The need to improve. Remember how we all felt after the 2007 season, even better, remember how we felt after the 2006 season (forget the damn snap in Seattle already)? Think about the three-year cycle we were in:

2006-did something we “weren’t” supposed to do

2007-did something GREAT but fell short

2008-completely fell short of expectations

2009-did something we “weren’t” supposed to do

2010-????

Think about what we did in between ’06-’07 and ’08-‘09. We made it our purpose to change, to expect better, to believe we could achieve more with change.

So here’s what I think will determine our appetite for change:

So everyone is on board with Doug Free as our LT: Ok, so Doug is going to protect our franchise QB blind side. So if Free is the LT, why put so much emphasis on the OT position this year in the draft? I thought there was a resounding voice when Cowboy Nation stood behind Colombo after the Minnesota game: “he came back from a broken leg.”  Why not solidify the interior with Iupati?

The only picks that are going to matter this year are our first three: OL, some form of Safety and what I think has been holding us back, a top return man.

Forget the Return man; put Tashard Choice as our kick/punt returner: he gets more touches, and oh wait he’s in the field amongst bodies flying and groups of people crashing in on him, but wait, they aren’t 300 lbs Defensive linemen and top rate LBs and DBs? Sounds like a possible green light situation.

Admitting you were wrong about Ken Hamlin is going to be easier than admitting you were wrong about Roy Williams…so far: YES CONJUNCTION the make Roy an OL was hilarious…but this is one of those points we need to address. Expect more and get someone who wants to be more at this position.

Dip the ink in the Free Agency: hmm I wonder if we can find some help at NT and maybe someone for Spears if we can’t re-sign him http://www.footballsfuture.com/2010/fa/dl.html

Again guys, the need to improve is the best form of strategy here. I’m sure I could quote “eye of the tiger” or “hearts on fire” but I think we all get the point.

I hope everyone has a great offseason and I hope to hear plenty from anyone who is near a training facility watching some prospects train.

Blogging The Boys STOP IT!!! The WR situation is fine. NO WR in 1st 3 ROUNDS

So First i see Quincy take Golden Tate in the First Round of the Site-Wide Seven Round Mock Draft. MIKE IUPATI was drafted 4 spots AFTER. Then you hear about people talking Jibba Jabba about how Roy is no good and we need to get rid of him this, that and whatever.

FOOLERY

All of you relax and have faith. Remember the Tampa Game? Remember the first Philly game? Just give it all one second. WE have so many things coming to light that we can chance the Roy Williams thing for another year.

There's nothing wrong with a developmental year in camp. Hurd and Ogletree can use the camp time. Crayton's got some gears left, and right now we need to focus on the Willaims/Austin Tandem.

"BUT ROY SUCKS"

"HE DROPS EVERYTHING"

He blocks better, and quite frankly, he and Tony BOTH look lost sometimes.

You wanna worry about someone? Martellus Bennett!!! There you go...i just broke your finger to make the pain go away over the flesh wound...hee hee hee, ho ho ho.

Honestly, there are BIGGER let downs on our team.

HERE'S WHAT OUR DRAFT NEEDS TO LOOK LIKE:

1. Mike Iapati, OG

2. Earl Thomas, S

3. Ciron black, OT

I'll take T.J. Ward, S from Oregon in the 3rd if Thomas is gone already.

Blogging The Boys Confession Mondays

First off, what in the hell…?

Why didn’t we get THAT Minnesota Vikings team? Why did we really not hit Farve enough last week? I like to think I understand the limits and overall demands of what it take to be a professional football player, but  to get reamed by Anthony Spencer, throwing a 40-something yard pass and 40 years old while doing it…NOW HE SHOWS UP LIMPING?

Whatever, it’s happened all year. Every time a team plays us, right after they change. Whether its over-confidence or they’re completely worn out from facing us…we don’t get “no respect” for it.

So as I showered this morning, I pieced some things together, along with the peculiar tid-bits I came across this morning, I’m wondering what we do from here.

The Draft:

I assume some if not most (hopefully) of you read my suggestions from the draft. From that article I started to wonder how much more we can dive into this…

Mike Iupati        6'5          330 pounds        Idaho

Call me crazy, but why the hell not? He’s a monster, he’s got the mean streak we want, and I just don’t think I’m sold on Kyle Kosier for TOO MUCH longer. Yes he came back strong after his foot injury. But I say why not build for the future now?

Check this article out:

http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/columns/story?columnist=macmahon_tim&id=4845449

He says we should really look into the following guys for our first pick:

Bryan Bulaga        6'6        304 pounds         Iowa

Bruce Campbell  6’7        310 pounds         Maryland

I say screw that, HERE IS WHERE THE FUTURE IS:

Ciron Black         6'5          328 pounds         LSU

POW!!! BAM!!! BOOM!!! Pause for a second and look for your underwear and two front teeth baby. You really don’t think we can pick this guy up in the second round?

Confession Monday:

“I’m admitting now and I was fool with my pants on the ground for saying otherwise. We have AVERAGE safeties. I thought the world of Hamlin and Sensabaugh. Nope, they are SERVICEABLE.”

That was me a week ago, or something. I think I was still tripping balls from the Minnesota game from the amount of denial I had scorched onto my soul…but I’m ok now…thanks.

One more year…I don’t care about Taylor Mays, he’s probably not going to land that far and quite frankly. Alan Ball? Not so much. Invest in the money we put into Hamlin…he was hurt this year, just look the other way a bit.

Free Agent Move:

You want a free agent move? Cut Hamlin and pick up Aaron Kampman. Why? Depth son! He hated being a converted DE->OLB. Fine…play DE for us (yes Patrick Kerney does come to mind and the possible bust but be moth*******ng positive for 20 minutes)!

So there we have it:

Blogging The Boys GOOD MORNING...But i Digress...

So it was humiliating. It hurt to watch at times. it hurt to breathe. Now some of us are back to square one, wondering if it was all worth anything.

Tell me about it! My Christmas tree is still up because I thought it was good luck (it’s dressed in blue and silver ornaments and has a Dallas Cowboys decorative Star as the topper)! My Xbox probably won’t recognize my Madden Disc since I haven’t played it since the beginning of December.

So where, do we, the living that remain, start off? RIGHT NOW

Blogging The Boys WE ARE...COWBOYS NATION

"Elevators, Alligators, Cross Me…You will Die” –Lebron James

So where do we find ourselves at this point break? Are we “living the dream” or are we inevitably keeping the bus “above 50” only to run around in circles for the season finally as we hopelessly shoot our guns off in the air with all our might?

Yeah I know, I’m kidding. But seriously, look at us. I don’t think we’ve had this much HOSS in our step since we beat Philly this year, or when Roy lit up the Bucs and we all said to each other, “ we knew what we were doing.” The fact of the matter is that this win, vs. the Saints could be the switch that changes our tracks into the Promised Land.

For the past two days I’ve walked around with a different mentality. People will say wow great job or what a lucky win…but we all know the truth:

WE ARE THE BETTER TEAM

WE HELD OFF THE COMEBACK

WE DID WHAT NO ONE ELSE COULD DO, WE SLAPPED THE SAINTS SO HARD THEY DIDN’T KNOW WHERE TO MARCH IN.

WE WON A GAME WE NEEDED TO WIN

I’ve been harping @sportsnation on my Twitter account for the past two days. I’ve borderline harassed people who said we had NO SHOT at beating the Saints.  I have MB3 in my fantasy league and people laughed at me for playing him last week…hmmm I’m on my way to the championship and GUARANTEED money, baby.

I write this post not proudly, I am, have been and always will be proud of my THE Dallas Cowboys (I’m adding THE ever since Saturday), but out of joy for the men on THE Dallas Cowboys. The ones who witnessed a catastrophe in the off-season, you know, the one no one seems to remember anymore? I write this post as a grown-24-year-old who got watery-eyed when I started screaming and running around when we recovered the fumble at the end of the game. I write this as a member of THE BAD A$$ COWBOYS NATION WHO RIDES HIGH AS DECEMBER AND JANUARY COME TO A CLOSE…

This is THE Dallas Cowboys team we’ve been waiting on since 2006.

This is THE Dallas Cowboys team that’s going to rise to the occasion.

This is THE Dallas Cowboys team that’s going to punch their opponents in the mouth and ask them if they want more.

This is THE Dallas Cowboys team that’s going to win a playoff game this year.

This is THE Dallas Cowboys team that represents AMERICA!!!
