Trade Idea
After passing on Ryan the Falcons trade #34 and 37 to us for #29, 75, and next years 3rd or 4th to make sure they get Brohm.
We would then have picks 34, 37, and 39 and could grab 3 of the following:
Mayo
Groves
Baker
Nicks
Laws
Sims
Kelly
Hardy
Avril
Probably won't happen but its fun to speculate.
Raiders sign Walker. WTF!
From PFT
According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Walker has agreed to terms on a six-year, $55 million deal that includes $16 million in guaranteed money.
Walker will earn $27 million over the first three years of the contract.
Are you kidding me? Did Al Davis give Brian Sabean the keys this offseason.
49ers Resign Isaac Sopoaga
EDITOR'S UPDATE 8:15PM - I made a mistake in the initial post. MM's article only mentioned they had speculated previously that Sopoaga might get a deal similar to that of Jay Ratliff. Ratliff was the one with the 5 year deal, NOT Sopoaga. It's still possible Sopoaga gets the same type of deal, but in the meantime, no numbers have been released. My apologies.
Thanks to enut21 for making the first call on this story. Matt Maiocco confirms this with financial details. Isaac Sopoaga will return to the 49ers after reaching a deal at 5 years, $20.5 million and an $8 million signing bonus.
It should be interesting to see how this affects Aubrayo Franklin's playing time going forward. Although it sounds like the early cap number isn't too much, this is definitely not a contract you give to somebody who will be spending a significant amount of time on the bench. Thoughts on the deal?

49ERS KEEP SOPOAGA by Michael David Smith
Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the San Francisco 49ers have reached a contract agreement with nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga.
The 49ers' fourth-round draft pick in 2004 out of the University of Hawaii, Sopoaga had been scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on Friday. Per Schefter, the new contract is a five-year deal. No financial details are available.
Sopoaga played in all 16 games for the 49ers in 2007, starting five and recording 20 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Although he has only been a part-time player for the 49ers, the 325-pound Sopoaga is a good fit at nose tackle in coach Mike Nolan's 3-4 defense, and getting a new deal done for him before free agency began was reportedly one of the 49ers' top priorities.
Rosevelt Colvin
The Pats cut him today. He will be 32 next season, but he is a pretty good pass rushing OLB in a 3-4 scheme. A 1-2 year deal with Colvin would be a much better investment then signing Briggs to a long term deal imo. I know the Banta-Cain signing didn't work out like some thought, but Colvin has a much better track record.
AFL wrapup on rotoworld

Nothing too mind-blowing or in-depth than some of the more knowledgeable people here on the minor leaguers, but Pouliot has a nice write up on 6 of our guys in the AFL.
Romo and Anderson seem like they are strikingly similar prospects.
Last Behind the Steel Curtain post
Has anybody read this crap?

Let me recap:
- Alex Smith Sucks, just contain him in the pocket. He is so bad you probably won't see the Pitt D in a nickel or dime until they play the Cards next week.
- Gore won't do much against their NT.
- Willis is just a rookie, Heath Miller is gonna leave him in the dust.
- Our cb's aren't very good.
- Davis sucks, he shouldn;t be complaining about his role in our offense.
Willis signs
per ESPN
5 year - 16 mill - 12 mill guaranteed
The San Francisco 49ers have signed middle linebacker Patrick Willis of Mississippi, the earlier of the team's two choices in the first round of the draft, to his first NFL contract. San Francisco last week signed Central Michigan offensive tackle Joe Staley, its other pick in the first round.
Willis, 22, was the 11th overall player selected in the draft. His contract is for five years, with a maximum value of $16.7 million and total guarantees of $12 million.
Regarded as the top linebacker prospect in this year's draft class, Willis figures to play quickly in the San Francisco 3-4 alignment, and to provide the 49ers a tough playmaker in the interior of the defense. A tackling machine, Willis twice led the SEC in total stops, but his quickness and range make him more than just a run-stuffer.
At the combine, Willis enhanced his already soaring stock by posting a 4.51-second time in the 40-yard dash. He also flashed his overall athleticism with an effort of 39 inches in the vertical jump, and solid times in change-of-direction drills.
Known for his innate football instincts, Willis was also a two-time academic all-conference selection. And his toughness was manifested in 2005 when he played the entire season with a cast on his right hand.
In 45 games at Ole Miss, including 22 starts, Willis had 355 tackles, 33 tackles for losses, 11 sacks, one interception, 12 passes defensed, five forced fumbles and three recoveries.
Draft Day Challenge results after Day 1
Hopefully the # of players undrafted is accurate.
We didn't do too good. 4 will probably clinch this thing and 3 will probably get you in a tie for 1st.

Draft Day Challenge
[EDITOR'S NEW NOTE] - My general plan for the live blogging is the post below...In the meantime, I thought I'd move this back to the top so people can keep getting picks in.
[EDITOR'S NOTE] - I'm always up for a contest to get us through the offseason. Any thoughts on giving more value for later picks? Like maybe if you pick a player that gets drafted in the 4th round or later you get bonus points?
http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/story/2007/4/22/211328/772
I saw this on the cowboys blog and i'm gonna steal the idea. Pick 15 players who you think the 49ers are going to draft. Whoever gets the most right wins.
- DT Alan Branch
- ILB Patrick Willis
- WR Robert Meachem
- WR Jason Hill
- WR Paul Williams
- OT Ryan Harris
- OT Mike Otto
- RB Michael Bush
- RB Brandon Jackson
- DT Paul Soliai
- DE Ika Alama-Francis
- ILB Zak DeOssie
- CB Eric Wright
- S John Wendling
- TE Matt Spaeth
My 49ers Mock Draft 1.0
[EDITOR'S NOTE] - I really like where this discussion is going. Although enut21 is going with Alan Branch, the consensus towards Patrick Willis has increased considerably. I tried to find an Ole Miss blog to get a scouting report, but no responses. If anyone can find a solid blog to give us a scouting report I'd appreciate it.
Here we go.
11. Alan Branch, DT -The odds that he could fall to us is looking more and more like a possiblity. Branch is the ideal guy to fill the middle of the d-line in our 3-4.
We trade #42,76,124 to NY Jets for #25.
- Dwayne Jarrett, WR - I think that WR is a much bigger need then people here believe. I would not be surprised to see Nolan move up from the 2nd round to grab Jarrett with the amount of picks we have this year. After the signing of Lelie, Jarrett makes a ton of sense as a compliment to Lelie's speed as a big possession receiver who has shown he can make big plays in big games.
- Michael Bush, RB - Assuming he is falling this far due to his injury, it would be a steal to get this guy, this late. If He doesn't fall this far I see us grabbing Wynn, Walker, or Booker in the 4th.
- Ryan Harris, OT - He can play Tackle and Guard on both sides with huge potential. I'd love to see us draft this Harris so we can slide the other Harris on the bench for good.
- Zak DeOssie, OLB - He's a tall big guy who could play on the inside or on the outside in our scheme. He would be ideal subbing for Banta-Cain, as his strength is against the run as opposed to out in coverage like Banta-Cain. NFL.com compares him to Mike Vrabel.
- John Wendling, S - Wendling would add more depth at safety. He has good coverage skills and would be a great compliment to the big hitters we already have.
- Derek Landri, DT-DE - Local guy who went to De La Salle, would best be suited as a DE in the 3-4. Wouuld need to add some weight, Good Depth.
- Syvelle Newton, WR? - Another project player on offense. Has played QB,WR,RB,FB,FS in college. He is a big guy(6-2, 217) with decent 40 speed (4.4-4.5). Could fight for a spot as a WR or TE and is good on special teams.
