The Phinsider IMAGINE THIS, WHAT IF?

First of all, let me say guys, long time no hear.  Still loving the site.

I was on my way home driving through this stupid tunnel traffic and I had a thought.

I know the Dolphins need a franchise QB.  And I know it seems like we need to rebuild bit.

But if Miami got the number one pick in next years draft, we all know Adrew Luck can not participate in the Combine and still be considered the best.

But let me ask this:

What if we are about to draft Andrew Luck and all of the sudden get a call from Washington, Tennessee, or maybe even Minnesota, saying they are willing to make us an offer like Cleveland got from Atlanta.  Do we take it?

It puts us ina good situation especially with the rookie cap in the league now.  Also there are other good QBs that are worth a look.

Matt Barkley, USC or Landry Jones, OU

And if we are offered multiple 1st and 2nd rounders, what do we do.  It will really help us build this team like the PATS consistently do.  And it will give us a chance to get some more young studs on this team.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Andrew Luck in Aqua-marine and Orange, but an offer like Atlanta's in last year's draft could really help move this team in the right direction.   Drew BM connection would be crazy like Staff to CJ.  And drafting a REAL tight end *cough couch Aaron Hernandez , Greg Olsen, cough*, he could have a great safety valve with Brian and Devonne holding it down for him too.  Oh and a deep threat that might be able to catch Ginn 2.0 BKA Clyde Gates.

But at the same time, can we really afford to miss out on the next possible Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer, or even Jon Elway.

We have a semi decent running game, good receivers (can't catch a cold right now) and an offensive line that could use some help.  I would hate to get Andrew Luck and have him become David Carr

Just wanted to bring this to your guy's attention and see what you thought.

My personal opinion is if we are offered half another teams draft we should take it.

The Phinsider Look out, Miami gets new unis in 2012?

Hey guys i dont get a chance to get on here as often as I like.  I was browsing the internet and happended to come across this.  Not too sure if you guys have already discussed this, but wanted to see what your take was on it.  I like it.  I am tired of the same uniforms so minor changes.  I mean, the closest thing to a uniform change our Dolphins have received was the Orange ensemble we have.

The Phinsider THE TED GINN THEORY

I conducted my usual routine, take a shower eat breakfast then get on Phinsider and see what everyone is talking about.  As I am scrolling through the many posts I notice that we have yet another acquisition from Canada.  This time it’s a small guy who went to UConn, 5’8” 177 lbs and not sure of his speed.  With his size he can be a good asset because he maybe able to slip through the tackles and be elusive, not to mention if he isn’t scared to take a hit even better.

The first guy is a Hawaii alum, that was there making history with Davonne Bess.  His route running is superb, he is 5’11” 180  LBS and runs a 4.33.  Not too shabby.  He had a hell of a senior season.  Was a UFA in Houston but injuries caused him to get waived. He finally made his way to Canada.  But his abilities caught my eye, hmmmmm mighty familiar.

Then it hit me like a mac truck loaded with lightning bolts.  Tuna is getting these guys for one reason and one reason only.  To replace Ted Ginn Jr.

I think that what is going to happen is Teddy will be shopped around all the way up to draft day.  And I theorize that good ol’ Bill will trade him and a late round pick (5th or 6th) for a second round selection.  This would place us in a situation to take care of 3 key defensive poitions in the first 2 rounds.  But my brain didn’t stop there.  Brian Hartline and Greg Camarillo are cut from the same cloth.  Who is to say that he wont get traded as well.  Greg “Ol Faithful” Camarillo is someone who could easily fetch us a 3rd

round selection from someone.  No problem.  Plenty of teams would love to have a guy like that.  He would compliment anyones number 1 beautifully.  And acquiring another 3rd round pick would set our

defense even more.

Its been said all year, that we have some of the best #2 receivers in the league, and they get the job done and have held us down.  But someone has got to go.  Both of these scenarios will work out great for us.  I think one of them will happen.  But if I had to put my money on one, it would be Ginn leaving.  Camarillo is not expensive and the two new guys will barely get paid a combined salary of a third of what Ted Ginn will make next year.  It gives us more leverage to pay for players we need to keep and get.  Like maybe Shawn Merriman.

We could easily get 3 good starters to fulfill some pressing needs.

OLB: Rolando McClain, ALA and Jerry Hughes, TCU

ILB: Brandon Spikes, UF and Micah Johnson, Kentucky

WR (if the FO finds it fit) Arrelious Benn, Illinois or Dez Bryant, Oklahoma State

NT: Dan Williams, Ten or Terrence Cody, Ala

Maybe even a TE in Aaron Hernandez, UF (would be a nice little target for Chad)

Safety: Darrell Stuckley, Kansas; Nate Allen, USF or Rashard Jones, Georgia

If the front office can work their magic, we can pick up at least one of each position (probably two in the case of linebacker) in the first 3 rounds.  And have a damn successful draft in my opinion.  I’d hate to see Camarillo go, but its for the betterment of team.  Ginn not so much, we need to throw in the kitchen sink to get rid of him for a decent 2nd round pick.

What do you guys think?

The Phinsider Free Agent Line Backers

I found these two articles and I have to say that they caught my eye.  I think it would be a good idea to sign a LB from FA and draft one.  Joey and JT are pretty much getting up there.  They may have one year left in them.  Channing, well what can I say, he is a great supporing actor but no head liner.

http://thevikingnation.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=21732&page=1

Some of the names that I would love to see the trifecta make an attempt to sign are the following (I am posting career info)

Barrett Ruud: 26, 6'2", 241lbs: TOT 467, Solo 344, Sacks 3, FF 4, INT 1

Shawne Merriman: 25, 6'4", 265 lbs: TOT 226, Solo 173, Sacks 43.5, FF 8, INT 1

DeMeco Ryans: 25, 6'1", 250lbs: TOT 519, Solo 404, Sacks 7.5, FF 5, INT 2

Stephen Tulloch: 25, 5'11", 235lbs: TOT 297, Solo 219, Sacks 3.5, INT 1

Thomas Davis: 26, 6', 240lbs: TOT 390, Solo 314, Sacks 11, FF 8, INT 3

The list can go on and on.  So what do you guys thinks?

The Phinsider WR Answer in the Draft: Demaryius Thomas

I heard about this guy not too long ago in a post. So i decided to look him up. So far i like what I see. he has the size and ability. Some have been even comparing him to Calvin Johnson. I want to see how he perfroms in a bowl game to further assess his abilities. He would be a bargain in my eyes in the 3rd round. I dont think the FO will go offense in the first 2 rounds, but defitnetly will in round 3. I want to hear your guys' opinion of if this kid has what the Trifecta are looking for as far WR goes?

Here's a little info about him As of this year he has 46 receptions for 1154 yards and 8 touch downs.

In 2008, Paul Johnson was hired as the head coach and implemented the run-heavy triple option offense. Thomas considered transferring but decided against it.[3] During the season, he recorded 39  receptions for 627 yards and three touchdowns as the leading receiver.[1] Despite being a heavily run-oriented system, as one of the team's few experienced players, Thomas recorded relatively high numbers.[4] Still, compared with other receivers in the Atlantic Coast Conference, such as leader D. J. Boldin of Wake Forest, Thomas' statistics were much smaller. He said, "Sometimes I think about [not getting many passes], but most of the time I just want to win."[3] Thomas' mark was the best of any wide receiver from the school since Calvin Johnson in 2006. Against Duke, he caught nine receptions for 230 yards, the second-most in a single-game in school history.[1] The CBS Sports-affiliated NFL Draft Scout assessed Thomas as the ninth-ranked wide receiver available for the 2011 NFL Draft and projected him as a second- or third-round selection.

2008
Georgia Tech's best receiver since Calvin Johnson and one of the most skilled receivers in the ACC... greatly improved his blocking skills... ranked eighth in the ACC in receiving yards per game (52.2 ypg)... caught at least one pass in every game he played in... had 39 receptions for 627 yards... had more than half of Tech's receptions (39 of 74)... had nine receptions of 20 yards or longer... averaged 16.1 yards per reception... has 1,185 career receiving yards to rank tied for 16th in Tech history... has more career receiving yards than any active non-junior or senior in the ACC... his 74 career receptions rank tied for 19th in Tech history... had three receiving touchdowns in 2008, seven for his career... has recorded two career 100-yard receiving games... caught three passes for 32 yards vs. LSU in the Chick-fil-A Bowl (Dec. 31)... showed his versatility in the Miami game (Nov. 20) when he had two receptions for 17 yards, one rushing attempt for 14 yards and he threw a 22-yard pass completion to Lucas Cox... had four receptions at 19th-ranked North Carolina (Nov. 8)... had five of Tech's seven receptions, for 88 yards, including a 42-yard strike from Josh Nesbitt vs. Virginia (Oct. 25)... was a hero in the win at Clemson (Oct. 18) when he hauled in a 24-yard touchdown pass from Nesbitt with 5:22 remaining to lift Tech to a 21-17 road win... finished the game with four receptions for 56 yards... recorded two receptions for 41 yards including a key 35-yard reception from Calvin Booker vs. Gardner-Webb (Oct. 11)... had one of the finest days by a receiver in Georgia Tech history vs. Duke (Oct. 4)... hauled in all nine of Tech's receptions for 230 yards -- the second-most single-game receiving yards in school history... had an 88-yard touchdown reception on a pass from Jaybo Shaw -- the third-longest pass play in Tech history and the longest since 1996... caught his first touchdown pass of the season -- a 20-yard pass from Jaybo Shaw -- vs. Mississippi State (Sept. 20)... did not play in the Virginia Tech (Sept. 13) game to recover from a mild concussion... had four of Tech's six receptions at Boston College (Sept. 6) for 56 yards... had one catch for nine yards and threw a pancake block that led to a touchdown vs. Jacksonville State (Aug. 28)... a talented and athletic receiver with big-play capability... has outstanding speed.

2007
Played in all 13 games and started 10 times... started the final eight games... ranked second among Yellow Jacket receivers in receptions (35) and receiving yards (558)... had twice as many touchdown receptions (4) as any other Tech receiver... averaged 15.9 yards per reception... had one rushing attempt and one passing attempt... caught one pass in each of the first two games of his rookie season before hauling in five passes for 68 yards including a long of 43 against Boston College (Sept. 15)... scored his first career touchdown on a pass from Taylor Bennett at Virginia (Sept. 22)... ended up with four catches for 86 yards, including a 56-yarder, against the Wahoos... was outstanding at Maryland (Oct. 6)... had a career-high nine receptions, had one TD reception, and went over the 100-yard receiving mark (139 yards) for the first time in his career... had two catches for 46 yards and was credited for a touchdown reception on a ball he didn't catch at Duke (Nov. 10)... D.J. The Phinsider What do you guys think? New coaching staff, imagine the possibilities

As I browse my favorite Dolphins blog site and I look over ESPN news, the cogs in my brain began turning.  I not caught as many games as I like because of where I am right now.  But hearing my fellow Phinsiders complain about the coaching staff has me a little curious.  So I wanted to bring up to you for discussion what you guys would think if Bill Parcells brought or thought about bringing in Charlie Weiss and Romeo Crennel as new offensive and defensive coordinators for our franchise.  I think it would be interesting because the two have alot to prove to themselves and their peers.  After failing miserably as head coaches maybe they can go back to their roots and under Tony "Punch the air" Sparano , this team maybe a little more interesting.  I am sure it wont happen and I am sure it would take alot to even get them into discussions.  But what if..........

Charlie Weiss mentoring another Michigan quarter back and Romeo developing a bunch of young studs.

We could become a franchise that know one will see coming.

And how pissed off would Bill Belichik get knowing we got them and smash them every game.  Awww yes, the possibilities.

The Phinsider RECEIVERS ANYONE?

After yesterdays debaucle I kept thinking about how badly we need to replace Ted Ginn.  I mean honestly, I have not been impressed with since day one.  He seems to not do anything spectacular.  Not receive or return the ball.  He has yet to live up to the standards we have hoped for.  As I stand in front of my computer out to sea enjoying the oceans that I am sailing on board my beautiful ship (I am in the Navy, HOLLA!!).  I sometimes get time to look up some of the things that help occupy my thoughts through out the day.  I run throw the wide spectrum of fantasies I have of the Dolphins having these big name receivers.  Then I hear the ships whistle and I snap back to reality.  But like an omen on this very website I see something that gets my gears going.  Some article about Miles Awesome, I mean Austin.  So I asked myself, " Self when is this guy a FA?"  So i look it up and low and behold he is one at the end of this year.  So I was like wow.  How convenient.  I am sure Jerry Jones can't afford to pay all this money for another receiver.  Considering that Patrick Crayton and Roy Williams contracts could support a small city for a year or two.  So what are the chances of us getting him.  We can free up some money by getting rid of Teddy, maybe in a trade for a 5th rounder.  But if he continues in his amazing fashion, he will expect a big payday.  And I am sure that if Tashard Choice keeps performing he will ask for a raise too.  What do you guys think of making a play for Miles?  He is only 25, stands 6'3", weighs in a healthy 214 lbs, and hes a jersey boy.

Scenario 2, someone throws a whopping amount of money at him and we decide he is too rich for our blood.  There is another viable option.  Someone just as fast as Ginn and probably can catch a few more passes than him.  Steve Breaston is an unrestricted free agent this coming year.  He is 6' and weighs in a decent 189 lbs.  He has a career 109 recptions and 1441 yards.  I think he would be an excellent replacement for Ted.

Scenario 3:  We just draft someone.  There are a few options out there for us.  And to be honest I see us get a mid round pick.  I think the first two rounds will be spent on defense.  But some say that the tri-fecta will go offense in one of the first two rounds.  Who knows, they did draft Pat White.

Scenario 4:  Screw it.  Trade Ted for anything we can get and just develpo the guys we have around Chad henne.  That way they can build something together.  Bess is a beast (everyone is entitled to one bad game) and the other guys show promise.

These are two viable options that I think can come our way.  I wanted to see what my fellow PHINSIDERS thought of this and see which you prefer to see us get.

The Phinsider TRADING BLOCK

Hey guys, its been a long time since I have been on here. but you' guys can imagine how deployments go. So I was catching up and one thing hasn't changed.  I ahve ead countless posts about Teddy this and Teddy that.  The Tri-fecta have a bunch of good acquisitions and made some bad ones.  i wonder why they have not already put this guy on the block.  They had no problem cutting players before the season, no matter the cap hit we would have taken. My question to you guys is if they put Teddy on the block, what else will they throw in.  I mean we all know a dynasty is built from the draft, so the Tuna and the other head honchos will not get rid of a 1st or 2nd round pick.  What i think they may do is let him be on there with this coming years 4th round pick.  Even though Ginn is a bit suspect, he is still experienced and would make a decent #2 or #3 option in some teams.  I would love to see this happen to see what kind of offers we get.  Alot talk has been about as far as Dwayne Bowe, and even though he is an upgrade from TG, he is not worth more that Ginn and a 4th rounder.  What do you guys think?

The Phinsider Pat White in Aqua and Orange?

I read this article on yahoo sports and found it to be very compelling. The reason I was intrigued by this article is the fact that it re-enforced Pat White's natural athletic abilities and the fact that he's a "football player".  period.  The kid performed pretty damn well at the combine.  We also know that the Trifecta loves to have guys that are multi talented.  Someone who can play multiple positions with short notice.  I think the kids got heart, an arm and legs that can help him in any offensive scheme he is put in.  There has been so much talk on here about picking up a receiver, running back some even say a new QB if we deal Beck.  These are all very important cogs to a team who expects to score more than 1 TD a game.  I think Pat White can also add a bit of zest.  I watched a few of his games, and I have to say the kid can down right play.  Not to mention you can't be a bust if you win 4 bowl games in your college career.  I think an addition like him would help with our offense.  He can play RB and be thrown the ball in the flats.  Defenses will have to respect the kids arm because they know of his back ground.  In turn opening up the offense just a little bit more for us.  He can even to some sort of trick plays where he throws the ball to Ronnie. Who knows the options are endless.  I am not saying that we can use him to solidify the wild cat, but it would not hurt.  Its an extra threat that the defenses have to plan and worry about.  I respect all of your guys opinions and would enjoy reading your input on this subject.

The Phinsider LETS TALK WIDEOUTS

Here are some WR prospects I haven't heard anyone mention on here

We have long debated on if we should get a receiver in this draft or free agency.  Many of us believe, stay young and develop the next big thing.  Others think we should go buy a stud that is seasoned and not out of his prime.  Now we all know Kenny Britt is a beast because certain friends of ours tell us on the regular (hint hint).  But I give you guys some other options.  I run the gamut of receivers, none being 1st round material because to be honest, I don’t think anyone thinks we will go offense (except of maybe on the line) in the first round. I can see maybe picking another receiver out of the draft.  That in my eyes would be a good move.  I also see getting a few UDFAs.  That would help add that extra level of competition and hunger on the field.  Greg should be at 100% next year and Devone Bess is hopefully set to be the black Wes Welker.  But we are all in agreement when we say we want a huge player that can go down the field and grab the ball out of the air.  Most of the receivers we have aren’t even 6 feet tall.  The only one that is had 3 receptions for 25 yards.  So I propose a list of a few guys that meet the size, and of course they should be reviewed further with some game tape.  Some come from big time schools while others come from holes in the wall (no offense).  Either way I give this to you my fellow Dolfans.  I have added a little info and my opinion on some of the players I have listed including: Age, school, height, weight and 40 time.

Louis Murphy, 21, UF, 6'3" , 204 lbs, 40- 4.33:  This guy did not get many throws his way, but when you have Timmy over there breaking Emmitts record, what do you expect.  The guy is physical and plays with a lot of heart.  He is a nice size and his speed is insane.  Almost like a Percy Harvin on mega flintstone kids. he would be a great addidtion for Penne in the red zone and down the field for Henne in the future.

2008 stats: 38 rec, 655 yds, 7 TDs

Career: 77 rec, 1245 yds, 13TDs

Austin Collie, BYU, 6'2", 21, 206 lbs, 40- 4.52: Arguably the best receiver in BYU history, Austin Collie has declared a year early for the NFL Draft. Collie caught 106 passes for 1,538 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior. He also returned kicks on a 27-yard average so he can help with special teams as well.  Plus he had an 11 game stretch of 100 yards or more.  He put up 104 yards on 10 catches against a good Utah team, and in the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl posted 119 yards on 11 catches.  His speed is not blazing but he has tremondous up-side.

Marko Mitchell, Nevada, 23, 6'3", 210 lbs, 40- 4.45: Marko Mitchell finished with solid numbers as a senior, collecting 61 catches, 1,141 yards and ten touchdowns, but despite starting just eight games, Marko Mitchell recorded 53 receptions, 1,129 yards and eight touchdowns in 2007. His yards per catch (21.3) was good for second in the nation. Mitchell also has a nice 40 at his size. This year he posted 147 yards on 8 receptions and 1 TD on Texas Tech and 130 yards on 5 receptions and 1 TD on Maryland in the Humanitarian Bowl.

Aaron Kelly, 22, Clemson, 6'5", 190 lbs, 40- 4.53:  This is a big boy and even though he maybe a lite weight compared to his counterparts, his height more than makes up for it.  I am sure if drafted he will bulk up a bit.  Maybe a good old fashioned Parcells diet of nails and glass will get this guy the size that the Tuna likes.  His size reminds me a lot of Plax, and with height like that he won’t even have to jump very high to catch the ball.  His stats seriously dropped off, but hell so did the whole team.  Inconsistent play from the QB did not help Aaron any either.  So because of that he may drop a round, but this kid has plenty of potential.

Patrick Turner, USC, 6'5", 221 lbs, 40- 4.60: Patrick Turner’s speed is not ideal, by any means.  But his sheer size will make him tower over all defenders and be a nice big  target that will be hard to miss.  He’s played in a pro style offense under Pete Carroll and has faced some pretty steady competition.  He would be a great red zone threat and be an easy pass for a fade route.  Besides, break away speed doesn’t mean too much when CP10 has a tough time airing it out.  His stats by no means were impressive in ’08 with 49 recpetions for 741 yards and 10 TDs, and a career of 138 receptions for 1752 yards and 17 TDs,  but he would be a great addition as an UDFA.  He maybe drafted off the strength that he went to USC.

Ramses Barden, Cal Poly-SLO, 6’6”, 227 lbs, 40- 4.55: Well this guy is on the radar with the trifecta, and has already been bombarded with questions during an interview with them.  Thanks to his impressive side, Ramses Barden had 67 receptions, 1,257 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior.  The only Mustang of note, Ramses Barden has at least 131 yards and a touchdown in every game this season.  The kid can post numbers.

The Phinsider Penne vs Henne

Hey guys i read this article and got to thinking.  Do you think its really fair that Tony went ahead and said that Chad Pennington would be the starter next year?  I mean is that fair.  I understand wins and what he did, but I think its jsut another brett and Aaron thingin Green Bay.  I feel that Tony Sparano should let them compete, it will help keep Chad on his A-game and let the rookie develop more.  But maybe he's worried about his psyche or his confidence being broken and that spilling onto the field. What do you guys think?  Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne learning lots as backup

• Rookie Chad Henne said in late December he hoped for a chance to compete for the starting job this summer. That will not happen, barring injury, with coach Tony Sparano announcing Chad Pennington will remain the starter entering next season. But Henne understands the need to be patient.

''Every quarterback is waiting for their chance. I'm anxious,'' Henne said. ``Chad is a tremendous quarterback, but I'm going to keep competing each day. I'll keep pressing him every day. Obviously, I don't want to wait too long. But it's a tremendous opportunity to learn the first couple of years and not get thrown under the bus.''

Though he didn't throw a pass in a game after the Week 2 blowout loss to Arizona, Henne said he improved his ``anticipation of throws, getting the ball out a lot quicker and identifying defenses. I've learned a tremendous amount from Chad, the way he carries himself as a leader.''

Henne did five to 10 extra hours of work per week to help Pennington, primarily breaking down film of opponents. That helped him learn techniques of cornerbacks, among other things. Henne also attended meetings that Pennington held twice a week with receivers and once a week with linemen.

Though rookies Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco were starters, ''I think I'm learning more than they are,'' Henne said. ``When my time comes, I'll be ready.''
