RECEIVERS ANYONE?

After yesterdays debaucle I kept thinking about how badly we need to replace Ted Ginn. I mean honestly, I have not been impressed with since day one. He seems to not do anything spectacular. Not receive or return the ball. He has yet to live up to the standards we have hoped for. As I stand in front of my computer out to sea enjoying the oceans that I am sailing on board my beautiful ship (I am in the Navy, HOLLA!!). I sometimes get time to look up some of the things that help occupy my thoughts through out the day. I run throw the wide spectrum of fantasies I have of the Dolphins having these big name receivers. Then I hear the ships whistle and I snap back to reality. But like an omen on this very website I see something that gets my gears going. Some article about Miles Awesome, I mean Austin. So I asked myself, " Self when is this guy a FA?" So i look it up and low and behold he is one at the end of this year. So I was like wow. How convenient. I am sure Jerry Jones can't afford to pay all this money for another receiver. Considering that Patrick Crayton and Roy Williams contracts could support a small city for a year or two. So what are the chances of us getting him. We can free up some money by getting rid of Teddy, maybe in a trade for a 5th rounder. But if he continues in his amazing fashion, he will expect a big payday. And I am sure that if Tashard Choice keeps performing he will ask for a raise too. What do you guys think of making a play for Miles? He is only 25, stands 6'3", weighs in a healthy 214 lbs, and hes a jersey boy.

Scenario 2, someone throws a whopping amount of money at him and we decide he is too rich for our blood. There is another viable option. Someone just as fast as Ginn and probably can catch a few more passes than him. Steve Breaston is an unrestricted free agent this coming year. He is 6' and weighs in a decent 189 lbs. He has a career 109 recptions and 1441 yards. I think he would be an excellent replacement for Ted.

Scenario 3: We just draft someone. There are a few options out there for us. And to be honest I see us get a mid round pick. I think the first two rounds will be spent on defense. But some say that the tri-fecta will go offense in one of the first two rounds. Who knows, they did draft Pat White.

Scenario 4: Screw it. Trade Ted for anything we can get and just develpo the guys we have around Chad henne. That way they can build something together. Bess is a beast (everyone is entitled to one bad game) and the other guys show promise.

These are two viable options that I think can come our way. I wanted to see what my fellow PHINSIDERS thought of this and see which you prefer to see us get.

TRADING BLOCK

Hey guys, its been a long time since I have been on here. but you' guys can imagine how deployments go. So I was catching up and one thing hasn't changed. I ahve ead countless posts about Teddy this and Teddy that. The Tri-fecta have a bunch of good acquisitions and made some bad ones. i wonder why they have not already put this guy on the block. They had no problem cutting players before the season, no matter the cap hit we would have taken. My question to you guys is if they put Teddy on the block, what else will they throw in. I mean we all know a dynasty is built from the draft, so the Tuna and the other head honchos will not get rid of a 1st or 2nd round pick. What i think they may do is let him be on there with this coming years 4th round pick. Even though Ginn is a bit suspect, he is still experienced and would make a decent #2 or #3 option in some teams. I would love to see this happen to see what kind of offers we get. Alot talk has been about as far as Dwayne Bowe, and even though he is an upgrade from TG, he is not worth more that Ginn and a 4th rounder. What do you guys think?

Where we at?

So does anyone know where we stand as far as the NFL networks segment? I can't seem to find it. But I will say one thing thats for sure. If we are not in the top 15, I am going to be livid. because we have such a great team that is so under rated. And the addition of the new players we just got poises to be a better team. I feel that we wont have a record as good as last year, but I also thing we will win the division. We area younger and quicker team than the Pats. And as far as the Jets and Bils, well............what about them? So can I get a heads up on this? If someone can give me a link that would be awesome too.

Pat White in Aqua and Orange?

I read this article on yahoo sports and found it to be very compelling. The reason I was intrigued by this article is the fact that it re-enforced Pat White's natural athletic abilities and the fact that he's a "football player". period. The kid performed pretty damn well at the combine. We also know that the Trifecta loves to have guys that are multi talented. Someone who can play multiple positions with short notice. I think the kids got heart, an arm and legs that can help him in any offensive scheme he is put in. There has been so much talk on here about picking up a receiver, running back some even say a new QB if we deal Beck. These are all very important cogs to a team who expects to score more than 1 TD a game. I think Pat White can also add a bit of zest. I watched a few of his games, and I have to say the kid can down right play. Not to mention you can't be a bust if you win 4 bowl games in your college career. I think an addition like him would help with our offense. He can play RB and be thrown the ball in the flats. Defenses will have to respect the kids arm because they know of his back ground. In turn opening up the offense just a little bit more for us. He can even to some sort of trick plays where he throws the ball to Ronnie. Who knows the options are endless. I am not saying that we can use him to solidify the wild cat, but it would not hurt. Its an extra threat that the defenses have to plan and worry about. I respect all of your guys opinions and would enjoy reading your input on this subject.

Here are some WR prospects I haven't heard anyone mention on here

We have long debated on if we should get a receiver in this draft or free agency. Many of us believe, stay young and develop the next big thing. Others think we should go buy a stud that is seasoned and not out of his prime. Now we all know Kenny Britt is a beast because certain friends of ours tell us on the regular (hint hint). But I give you guys some other options. I run the gamut of receivers, none being 1st round material because to be honest, I don’t think anyone thinks we will go offense (except of maybe on the line) in the first round. I can see maybe picking another receiver out of the draft. That in my eyes would be a good move. I also see getting a few UDFAs. That would help add that extra level of competition and hunger on the field. Greg should be at 100% next year and Devone Bess is hopefully set to be the black Wes Welker. But we are all in agreement when we say we want a huge player that can go down the field and grab the ball out of the air. Most of the receivers we have aren’t even 6 feet tall. The only one that is had 3 receptions for 25 yards. So I propose a list of a few guys that meet the size, and of course they should be reviewed further with some game tape. Some come from big time schools while others come from holes in the wall (no offense). Either way I give this to you my fellow Dolfans. I have added a little info and my opinion on some of the players I have listed including: Age, school, height, weight and 40 time.

Louis Murphy, 21, UF, 6'3" , 204 lbs, 40- 4.33: This guy did not get many throws his way, but when you have Timmy over there breaking Emmitts record, what do you expect. The guy is physical and plays with a lot of heart. He is a nice size and his speed is insane. Almost like a Percy Harvin on mega flintstone kids. he would be a great addidtion for Penne in the red zone and down the field for Henne in the future.

2008 stats: 38 rec, 655 yds, 7 TDs

Career: 77 rec, 1245 yds, 13TDs

Austin Collie, BYU, 6'2", 21, 206 lbs, 40- 4.52: Arguably the best receiver in BYU history, Austin Collie has declared a year early for the NFL Draft. Collie caught 106 passes for 1,538 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior. He also returned kicks on a 27-yard average so he can help with special teams as well. Plus he had an 11 game stretch of 100 yards or more. He put up 104 yards on 10 catches against a good Utah team, and in the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl posted 119 yards on 11 catches. His speed is not blazing but he has tremondous up-side.

Marko Mitchell, Nevada, 23, 6'3", 210 lbs, 40- 4.45: Marko Mitchell finished with solid numbers as a senior, collecting 61 catches, 1,141 yards and ten touchdowns, but despite starting just eight games, Marko Mitchell recorded 53 receptions, 1,129 yards and eight touchdowns in 2007. His yards per catch (21.3) was good for second in the nation. Mitchell also has a nice 40 at his size. This year he posted 147 yards on 8 receptions and 1 TD on Texas Tech and 130 yards on 5 receptions and 1 TD on Maryland in the Humanitarian Bowl.

Aaron Kelly, 22, Clemson, 6'5", 190 lbs, 40- 4.53: This is a big boy and even though he maybe a lite weight compared to his counterparts, his height more than makes up for it. I am sure if drafted he will bulk up a bit. Maybe a good old fashioned Parcells diet of nails and glass will get this guy the size that the Tuna likes. His size reminds me a lot of Plax, and with height like that he won’t even have to jump very high to catch the ball. His stats seriously dropped off, but hell so did the whole team. Inconsistent play from the QB did not help Aaron any either. So because of that he may drop a round, but this kid has plenty of potential.

Patrick Turner, USC, 6'5", 221 lbs, 40- 4.60: Patrick Turner’s speed is not ideal, by any means. But his sheer size will make him tower over all defenders and be a nice big target that will be hard to miss. He’s played in a pro style offense under Pete Carroll and has faced some pretty steady competition. He would be a great red zone threat and be an easy pass for a fade route. Besides, break away speed doesn’t mean too much when CP10 has a tough time airing it out. His stats by no means were impressive in ’08 with 49 recpetions for 741 yards and 10 TDs, and a career of 138 receptions for 1752 yards and 17 TDs, but he would be a great addition as an UDFA. He maybe drafted off the strength that he went to USC.

Ramses Barden, Cal Poly-SLO, 6’6”, 227 lbs, 40- 4.55: Well this guy is on the radar with the trifecta, and has already been bombarded with questions during an interview with them. Thanks to his impressive side, Ramses Barden had 67 receptions, 1,257 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior. The only Mustang of note, Ramses Barden has at least 131 yards and a touchdown in every game this season. The kid can post numbers.

Penne vs Henne

Hey guys i read this article and got to thinking. Do you think its really fair that Tony went ahead and said that Chad Pennington would be the starter next year? I mean is that fair. I understand wins and what he did, but I think its jsut another brett and Aaron thingin Green Bay. I feel that Tony Sparano should let them compete, it will help keep Chad on his A-game and let the rookie develop more. But maybe he's worried about his psyche or his confidence being broken and that spilling onto the field. What do you guys think? Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne learning lots as backup

• Rookie Chad Henne said in late December he hoped for a chance to compete for the starting job this summer. That will not happen, barring injury, with coach Tony Sparano announcing Chad Pennington will remain the starter entering next season. But Henne understands the need to be patient.

''Every quarterback is waiting for their chance. I'm anxious,'' Henne said. ``Chad is a tremendous quarterback, but I'm going to keep competing each day. I'll keep pressing him every day. Obviously, I don't want to wait too long. But it's a tremendous opportunity to learn the first couple of years and not get thrown under the bus.''

Though he didn't throw a pass in a game after the Week 2 blowout loss to Arizona, Henne said he improved his ``anticipation of throws, getting the ball out a lot quicker and identifying defenses. I've learned a tremendous amount from Chad, the way he carries himself as a leader.''

Henne did five to 10 extra hours of work per week to help Pennington, primarily breaking down film of opponents. That helped him learn techniques of cornerbacks, among other things. Henne also attended meetings that Pennington held twice a week with receivers and once a week with linemen.

Though rookies Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco were starters, ''I think I'm learning more than they are,'' Henne said. ``When my time comes, I'll be ready.''
