Bless You Boys Who is your Tiger?

Our site has a nice mix of statheads and old school style fans (probably more the former). So I thought it would be interesting to ask FSD's favorite question: Who is YOUR Tiger?

We are going for your favorite current Tigers player, not the Tigers MVP. That's a differerent question altogether. Your reasons can be your own... player who makes you lean in the closest when he is on screen, player you most identify with, or even the player who just does the best job making the game fun to watch.

Have at it, and go Tiggies!

Bless You Boys What's your best 25 man roster?

Every spring I change my mind several times about the best 25-man roster the Tigers could break camp with, so I thought it would be fun to put down our best, and see how that progresses as we get closer to opening day.

As of today, March 10th, here's mine:

Starters:

1. Verlander

2. Porcello

3. Scherzer

4. Robertson

5. Willis

Bullpen:

6.   MR Bonine

7.   LRP Seay

8.   LRP Thomas

9.   RP Zumaya

10. SU Coke

11. SU Perry

12. CL Valverde

Position starters:

13. C Laird

14. 1B Cabrera

15. 2B Sizemore

16. SS Santiago

17. 3B Inge

18. RF Ordonez

19. CF Jackson

20. LF Damon

21. DH Guillen

Bench:

22. C Avila

23. 3B/OF Kelly

24. SS Everett

25. OF/DH/2B Raburn

Items worth noting:

Unless Bondo gets straightened out, I have no problem having Willis as the #5. If Willis falters, I'd be fine with Bonine. At least he's consistent and gives the team a chance to win. Robertson looks ready to go.

Galaraga has no place on the team.

Strieby is a great bat, but could probably use some time at AAA to get his OF work in. Casper Wells is my favorite tiger of the future now, but there just isn't a place for him, and he shouldn't be stuck on the bench.

Santiago is clearly the superior player to Everett. He should get more of the starts, with Everett taking the field against lefties or as a late-inning defensive replacement.

Tigers sign 28-year-old lefty Phil Dumatrait, and 1B Jason Stokes, 28.

Both were signed to minor league deals.

Bless You Boys Keep Your Tiger Chins Up!

Fellow Tiger fans,

Let's not give up on 2010 so quickly. It's true, Dave has clearly been making us better for 2011 and 2012, when we could have a rotation of Verlander, Scherzer, Porcello, Crosby, and Turner. That's exciting. But in the meantime, let's not forget how good we were in 2009.

This is still just about the same team as last year. If he can stay healthy, I think Scherzer is better than Jackson not just three years from now, but also in 2010. The big loss is AJAX for Grandy, which hurts, for sure. But otherwise, the only significant 2010 changes are Sizemore for Polanco, and Schlereth + someone for Rodney/Lyon.

We only missed the playoffs by one big play last year, and this team might be even better than last year. Consider the fact that two of our most key players put forward uncharacteristically poor seasons, in Maggs and Guillen. Consider also that Bonderman/Robertson/Willis contributed only a handful of starts combined. I think it's fair to expect Bonderman or Robertson to at least be a seviceable #5 guy that gives us a chance to win. Consider also that we will likely get to see far more of Raburn and Avila this year, two players who showed serious potential last season but only received limited playing time.

Other than the White Sox, no AL Central team looks to be significantly better than last season's version. Are we the favorites right now? No, I don't think so. But we're in the mix, and the offseason still has a lot of moves to go. So keep your Tiger chins up!
