david decastro!!! welcome to pittsburgh!
the music is unforgiveable, and the video as a whole seems to be editted by a 5th grader, but starting at 0:24, there are some awesome videos of some puny teenager with peoria - unreal to see maddux that young again!

so much for that whole retirement thing... arians with luck? wow!
who is chris volstad, and what is xFIP?
as usual, great neyer article... interesting spin on volstad and his xFIP, along with an answer to your inevitable "what the heck is xFIP?" question...

Epstein has talked to Kerry Wood's agents at Meetings. "Our bullpen looks a lot better with him in it. So does our clubhouse."
RB Issac Redman's birthday today. Larry Foote "He's one year closer to getting out of the league, don't know why he's celebrating"
that's just cooooold! and hilarious!
pouncey fined $7500 for "not late" late hit...
waiting to see how much deebo's fine will be for his helmet to helmet on the OL...
bill leavy to work this week's steelers-seahawks game??!
yeah, this won't be a bad idea. not at all....
oh wait, didn't leavy come out and say they kicked a few calls in that super bowl, and that he apologized for that?
if it was a 2-strike count, would this have counted as a strikeout?
Jim Tressel Hired By Colts: will he start his NFL career serving his 5 game suspension?
terrelle pryor starts his NFL career by serving out a 5 game suspension that was handed to him by the NCAA, but is being enforced by the NFL.
so obviously, czar goodell, protector of the integrity of the game, will certainly start tressel on a 5 game suspension also... right? right??
wait, you're saying goodell is just making up crap as he goes?!?! what?!?!

report of accident in pittsburgh involving a car with IKE24 on plates
There was an accident today in South Side of Pittsburgh ... plates on one car read IKE 24 ... no word yet if it was Ike Taylor's car
from mike bires's twitter
update: ike was on the team plane (ryan clark's twitter)
shhh! anyone know where mike pouncey is these days?
look, personally, i have full confidence in the big legursky. sure, i've had probably too many sips of the kool-aid, but i'm not afraid of having hobbit arms in the middle of the line. heck, we won a super bowl with justin "2pt" hartwig...
however, if someone found maurkice's twin brother, and the two of the switched places for a week, would anyone know any different?

in fact, would you even know the difference?
i'm not suggesting that a college center could keep his diapers dry when facing BJ the freezer raji in the super bowl, but would anyone know any different if mike pouncey was on the sideline in the #53 jersey as a backup? start legursky, but if legursky has any problems, or (gasp!) gets injured, i'd be ok if the pouncey's tried a little switcheroo-ski.
so, has anyone seen mike pouncey lately? think he might have taken an early flight to dallas this week?
full disclosure: i got this idea from the tunch/wolf show when they did a (very funny) interview with dan rooney JR, who happened to be the scout that evaluated maurkice pouncey... this is a good listen: link
i don't advocate cheating... strike that. i don't advocate getting caught for cheating (if you ain't cheatin, you aint' tryin). but how much trouble would this cause? would we end up forfeiting the game afterwards? how can this be a more punishable offense than video taping another team's practice, which only resulted in monetary fines (oh, and also resulted in two super bowl trophies for them...)?
here we go steelers! here we go!
packers are designated home team for super bowl XLV
after the stillers start the season wearing the black jerseys for the first 6 games (incl 3 away games), we'll probably wear the whites again.
the AFC is the home team for the even numbered super bowls...
"[the jets] knew that when the [steelers O] gets into a certain formation, someone on the steelers offensive line tips the play" - jay glazer talking about the jason taylor safety in the week 15 game.
jets top 10 plays from total access
i hope kugler knows this and has this cleaned up.
my guess is that it's kemo that is tipping the plays...
50% chance of snow. if this were philly, wouldn't they have already rescheduled the game?
the problem of Asomugha's free agency
anyone want to speculate on the effect nnamdi's free agency is going to have on ike? i don't know anything about ike's agents, but if he's even a little bit smart, he'll use nnamdi's next contract as a basis for setting ike's value... and i fear it's gonna price him right out of our zip code.
before Asomugha came to the market, i had some hope that we could re-sign face-me ike... now, nnamdi is going to set that bar way too high for art II, and i have fear and trembling thinking of our secondary next year... let's get that ring this year!!!
here's a list of current DB's that are heading into free agency:
none of these guys are big INT guys, but look at PD (passes deflected) and you'll see these guys are all good coverage guys.
here we go, stillers! here we go!

tomlin is 5th highest paid nfl coach
this article is poorly constructed. no singular list of the top 10, you have to hit the link to show the "in pictures" presentation.
also, you have to distinguish between head coaches only and the head coach/GM guys.
1. bellicheat: $7.5M
2. shanahan: $7M
3. carroll: $6.7M
4. fisher: $5.75M
5. tomlin: $5.75M
6. whiz: $5.75M
7. reid: $5.5M
8. coughlin: $5.25M
9. del rio: $5M
10.lovie: $4.8M
big ben is engaged?
the twitter is blowin' up with "vick can't get a dog, but big ben gets a fiance..."
this is nice for ben but kind of a PR nightmare brewing. maybe ben is changed, and maybe this will make him even better... my wife made me better, and when we got married, i wasn't done growing yet either...

before/after pix: big ben facemask
ok, so i (like all of y'all) read the articles after the game and saw where ben wanted to take the face shield off at halftime and the equipment people gave him a new facemask to help with avoiding gettings hands in his face (since the ref's aren't helping! ba-dum-bump!)
i never saw pix of the two, and i don't think anyone posted the before and after facemasks on BTS, so here you are...
1st half, with face shield:

2nd half, sans shield:

you can see the extra bars at eye level on the second half face mask...
here are the links for the two to see them full size:
a ray lewis snuggie. modeled by ray lewis. on the ray lewis webpage.
that is all.
mcclain fined $40k for miller hit, ngata fined $15k for broken nose
still no word as to whether the ravens will forgo 30 yards in penalties in the next game....
from ryan clark's twitter:
"Fines for the Balt more game but where were the flags. The flags hurt more than the fines. Why error on the side of caution on us"
this is the first time our opponent has outfined us... no conspiracy here. move along.
getting these fines with no penalties seems familiar, kinda like all those times the NFL screwed up calls and then apologized later in the week... (troy INT against colts). thanks for nuthin'.
goodell, you suck.

ngata hit to big ben's nose to be reviewed by nfl
this better be the fastest review of all time for that hand to helmet shot on a QB...
a modest proposal: fines for goodell in 18game season
herr roger is all about the player safety. that's all well and good. we all love football, but would prefer to see these players play for many years (hines, farrior...) rather than be great but only last a year or two (kendrell bell anyone?).
but given the choice of safety or making money, it's clear where goodell sides...
so, my modest proposal is that for an 18 game schedule year, goodell gets fined for every single injury that occurs in weeks 18 and 19.
the nfl wants us to believe that:
a) the NFL wants to improve player safety
b) players will still play 20 games a year (16 + 4 preseason now, 18 + 2 preseason proposed)
ok. that sounds like cute math. so, simply put, if you are going to fine deebo for "unsafe" hits on qb's, then goodell should be fined for every injury in the extra games.
simple, straight forward, and most of, consistent with the words that have been coming out of his mouth.
that is all.

K Kris Brown is the third QB tonight.
that's just.... just... wow.
schefter twitters: $25k fine for seymour, no suspension
this actually made me laugh when i read this... the only consistent thing is the inconsistency.
"For now, it looks like no suspension for Raiders DL Richard Seymour for hitting Ben Roethlisberger, but he was fined $25,000."
emmanuel sanders' helmet: facemask shock absorber
emmanuel sanders wears a unique helmet. i've only seen a few other players wear this type. as you can see from the picture, the facemask seems hinged into helmet, rather then just simply screwed on...
turns out this is a schutt ion4d helmet featuring something called an "energy wedge" that acts as a facemask shock absorber.
this helmet has some great features beyond the facemask shock absorber, but i thought this was very unique.
however, this specific feature would only have a real impact on front impacts, and i think most concussions occur from side impacts or backwards impact. still, i couldn't find anything describing his unique helmet anywhere...
from the webpage:
Energy Wedge Faceguard
Truly unique to the game of football, the Energy Wedge Faceguard acts as a shock absorber for the ION 4Dâ„¢, absorbing up to 15% more impact from direct frontal impacts than traditional faceguards. The Energy Wedge faceguard is stronger than traditional faceguards and gives you a wide, unobstructed view of the entire field.
troy would have been emergency RB
i actually found this article via woodley's twitter, where of course woodley suggests he would be a FB (if arians knew what a FB was, that is...).
the funny part of the article is that troy actually did practice at RB during the bye week.
but, as tomlin always says, troy is just cutback runner.
here we go!
