Teh Junk! 3/5/2011
Bwahahah! I have returned from the depths to consume your souls!
I don't ever see teh junk round these parts anymore and this makes me think that you cats need something to talk about. So lets talk about sweet bomb diggity music. Personally, I'm a fan of any noise that hits my ears. Not a fan of the silence. If it's nails on a chalkboard and it means that there's going to be a sound in the room, I'll take it over any silent alternative.
What kinda music are you a fan of?
SKRILLEX - Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites (via TheOfficialSkrillex)
Dubstep has never been my favorite noise, but this song is making me love the genre right now. I love it when somebody perfects a form of art.

Teh Junk - 10/19/10
I put the JD directions in here so that I didn't have to write 75 words.
So anyway, OTHER THAN PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS STUFF...
What are your hobbies? What kind of stuff do you do for fun on your days off? How do you kick it?
The daily Junk Drawer (JD) fanpost is the place for true off-topic conversation and people's random thoughts. Its purpose was simple from its infancy; a place where people could come and chat about all of the "whatevers" that didn't fit with the rest of the site and even be loose in terms of byplay and humor. The goal was to foster community...to let people who wanted to get to know each other outside of what they could discern from the strictly basketball posts. We've had happy JD's, sad ones, drawers that looked like a sharing circle, drawers that resembled open mic night at the comedy club... and people have really become a family here.
So if you have a one-off thought, consider posting it here. The rules about importance and significance of the topic are suspended in each JD but keep some of these basic rules in mind:
- Ad hominem attacks and swearing will never be tolerated
- Remember everything you write is visible publicly
- Don't use the JD call out or talk about users from other BEdge threads.
- Be mindful that every image posted slows down the JD, so use discretion in how many you post (you can also link to images you want to share so that they will not overwhelm the JD). When you do post images, put something in the subject line of the comment so that the image can be minimized.
I love Rudy, but he probably listens to this pregame.

Some of my buddies and I have taken to the practice of using ridiculous phrases to describe things that are awesome. 'Hella Beef' is the most recent way of saying something is cool.
Anyways, one time or another, the way the world as we knew it ceased to be and was replaced by something different, but somehow, equal. What do we do about this strange situation? Do we accept the change or do we do our best to resist? Do we take an active part in the change or do we watch things go by, as if it were all just a passing dream?
These are the questions which make us human.

I wanted to write a junk about beautiful pictures. When I typed in beautiful on google images, all of the pictures that came up were of clouds or beautiful women, and I think that there was a butterfly in there as well. So, I deduce that the most beautiful things in the world are clouds, butterflies, and women. You should talk about things that you find to be beautiful because they are easier to talk about than ugly things like a Celtics/Lakers Finals.

Lets watch some Bob Ross.

Bob Ross: Painting Snow-covered Mountains
I remember watching this dude whenever I got out of grade school early. I never got to see him otherwise, unless I happened to be visiting my great-grandmothers house.
The weekend is upon us. I'm going to hang out with some friends in Seattle and hopefully get into some sort of mischief.
What are you doing this weekend?
There is "a 75 percent chance" Warkentien lands back in Portland with the Blazers this summer.
A person currently employed by a NBA team told HOOPSWORLD that Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen is still a big fan of Warkentien. He indicated there is "a 75 percent chance" Warkentien lands back in Portland with the Blazers this summer.

That's 21 Carbons, 30 Hydrogens, 2 Oxygens and 3-5 hours of loving boredom. Today is a special time of the year for millions around the world.
This guy is probably celebrating somewhere.
This might be one of the greatest songs of all time.
This one is pretty darn good as well. If you look closely, you can see that SO is actually on stage.
So kick back, listen to some Sublime and Jerry and enjoy the sunshine before the Blazers decide that they're going to blot it out.
Peace

Hey guys and girls,
I know I'm a relative newcomer here on the BEdge. I only started lurking a little over a year ago and finally got up the gall to start talking to people on this blog back in late October or something like that. Since then, Blazersedge and the JD in particular has been a place where I can make friends by talking to people about one of my favorite subjects: The Blazers. I moved away from ALL of my friends and family in September and have had to build an entirely new base of contacts and new friends in the so-called "real world" since that point. It started out kinda rough for me. I've been leaning on BEdge and the Junk Drawer folks to help me out through that time. I never really believed in actually making friendships online before this year.
Thanks for proving me wrong.
Thanks for teaching me more about the game of basketball than I ever thought I could know.
Thanks for struggling through this immensely difficult season with me.
Thanks for everything. You're all amazing.
I hope to actually hang out with you all some day.

I don't really have anything interesting to say for this edition of Teh Junk so I'm gonna wonder about some stuff.
What makes something good?
Does a song have to be musically complex and well done or can it just be catchy?
If the Blazers were all slugs, would they melt if we poured salt on them?
Is any one possibility for the future more likely to happen than the next?
Would you rather go through a life full of extreme emotional swings or stay completely level headed throughout the time given to you?

Defense Lesson Junk - 3/2/10
Have you ever felt the need to defend yourself? I'm sure that these techniques can help you out.
My question to you is: If you are faced with the prospect of defending yourself, which of these techniques do you use? I would probably decide to utilize the excellent mustache as a way to distract my attacker then I would run away. I think that would work well enough for me. Which would you use?

An 80 year old man was having his annual checkup . . .
. . .and the doctor asked him how he was feeling. "I've never been better!" he boasted. "I've got an eighteen year old bride who's pregnant and having my child! What do you think about that?"
The doctor considered this for a moment, then said, "Let me tell you a story. I knew a guy who was an avid hunter. He never missed a season. But one day, he went out in a bit of a hurry, and he accidentally grabbed his umbrella instead of his gun." The doctor continued, "So he was in the woods, and suddenly a grizzly bear appeared in front of him! He raised up his umbrella, pointed it at the bear and squeezed the handle. And do you know what happened?" the doctor queried.
Dumbfounded, the old man replied, "No."
The doctor continued, "The bear dropped dead in front of him!"
"That's impossible!" exclaimed the old man. "Someone else must have shot that bear."
"That's kind of what I'm getting at," replied the doctor.

A quick round of predictions for the northwest division.
I think that its about time to make the annual predictions for the second half final third of the season.
Keep in mind that there is minimal thought put behind these.
Blazers - Now that we have a center and barring any horrible season ending injuries I say that the good guys take 19 out of their last 27 games.
Predicted record: 50-32
Jazz - The Jazz like to sputter down the stretch of the season. It happens every year. They have 31 games left and 20 of them are Not at home. See them not doing so well down the stretch. I say they win 16 more games.
Predicted record: 47-34
Nuggets - Nuggets are gonna keep on keepin on. Thats what they'll do under Chauncey and Melo. They do have a couple of tough road trips coming up. 18-11 down the stretch
Predicted record: 53-29
Thunder - This is a tough one. Gonna go with my gut and say that teams start to lock down on their offense as the season wears down. KD can't do it all this year.
Predicted record: 46-36
I also think the Mavs will be really really good after their trade and that the Lakers will round into championship form by the end of the season.
Brandon is sad about Travis leaving.
He'll get over it.

Valentines Junk 02/14/10
So tonight I was thinking about how lame the all star weekend has been when BOOM! Out of the blue I got a massive craving for Summer and realized just how awesome last summer was for me. I worked a ton but my job was challenging, entertaining, and satisfying. I hung out with friends and family whenever I wasn't working, enjoyed the weather, went and saw some really fun shows, and ate a ton of delicious food. It was fantastic in every sense of the word.
My question: What is your favorite season and why? Cool Memories? Old friends? Good food? The weather? Sports?
Go.
Oh yeah for those of you who are in a relationship... Good luck with that today. ;)
Mavs and Wizards set to trade Josh Howard for Brendan Haywood
Drew Gooden and Deshawn Stevenson are also part of the purported deal. Woj says that the deal is Caron Butler and Stevenson for Howard and fillers. I guess things are getting serious?
A junk regarding Captain Planet. 2/11/10
Captain Planet has blue skin. The Na'vi off of Avatar have blue skin. Coincidence? I don't think so. Anyways Captain Planet had quite the awesome theme song.
Here is a video detailing the awesomeness of the theme song. I'm pretty sure that this is on James Cameron's eco-friendly IPOD or something.
Here are some more awesome cartoons with more awesome theme songs.
This junk is about what other cartoons had or have awesome theme songs or that are just incredibly awesome.
Also Bioshock 2 looks pretty cool. The first one was spectacular and the second looks to be just as awesome.
A post regarding Nate McMillan
I realize that this may seem a little reactionary regarding the events of the Thunder game and while considering the injury situation right now but I've been thinking about this question for a while now and I feel that now is the right time to address it.
Let me start with this. Nate McMillan is a very good coach. He has been with our team for the entire resurrection sequence. He has taken what was a 21 win team in his first year and transformed it into a 54 win team last year. He has been steady at the anchor and kept our M.A.S.H. unit performing admirably and overacheiving throughout the horrible stretch of bad luck that has been this season. For the past two seasons the Blazers have been near the top of the pack in offensive efficiency. Before Greg went out this season we were near the top in defensive efficiency.
I think that the Blazers roster contains a dazzling array of offensive jewelry. When our players arent out with injury, we have a cast of players that can more or less
a. Create their own shot
b. Score in the post
c. Shoot the ball
d. Slash to the rim
e. Score off of Pick and Rolls
f. Score while curling off of Screens
e. Score while scoring off of pick and pops
g. Score on the fast break
h. Score off of backdoor cuts
I don't think that Nate is underutilizing the offensive talent on purpose. I simply don't think there is enough time in the game for everyone to get double digits on every night. I believe that an assortment of players such as the ones we have could work in almost any system. I love our halfcourt sets to death but I think that any coach who draws up decent plays in a halfcourt set with this offense will end up with a championship calliber offensive machine.
Defensive talent is another story... Or is it? Gregs presence is enough to intimidate at least half of the lane driving maniacs which constitutes the NBA's guard and wing crop. The other half end up on the floor after running afoul of one of his many limbs. Of course Greg still gets called for crap fouls so we have Joel who is also an intimidator. Lamarcus has weaknesses but is nearly long and quick enough to compensate. Nic is long and looking like a premier perimeter defender already. Martell can be physical when he is locked in. Brandon(!) can be very good when he isn't focused on scoring. Jerryd is quick enough and strong enough to play good defense for spurts. Rudy is much better than where he started and is extremely good at playing the passing lanes. Steve and 'Dre would make a decent defender if they were combined...
As this fanpost by Blazer Guy pointed out, Nate is wasting the potential defensive talent we have by making our guys play conservatively on that end of the floor. The Blazers have the potential to be a ball hawking, fast breaking monster or a physically dominating "In your face" type of defense but they are being shackled by the reigns that Nate is putting on them. Think of how many shots Greg and Joel were blocking at the beginning of the year while constantly being challenged by. Now think of how many shots they wouldn't have to block if our guys just swarmed the ball carrier, got in his face and actually challenged him every time they played defense. Backdoor Cuts? Ball Movement? I'll take that risk.
Even though Nate limits our guys, I think that he is also learning as a coach. He hasn't really ever had a collection of talent like this before. He is in new territory and if Greg gets healthy for any length of time, I think that we will have a very good shot at a title or two or three or four simply due to the virtues of having the depth and talent that we do. I think that it would be a more exciting brand of ball if we played more physical 'In-your-face' defense.
Ultimately, I think that the argument for getting rid of Nate boils down to the question on whether or not he can maximize the talent handed to him by KP. I don't think he can. I think he is evolving as a coach but his evolution as a coach will not help us win more championships with him. But if not Nate, then who?
THINGS I WANNA SEE THE BLAZERS COACH TRY TO DO:
1. Make our team play aggressive physical defense.
2. Manage the personalities on the team decently
3. Instill a consistent sense of offensive and defensive identity on our team.
One could argue that Nate does all of these things. I just don't think he does them good enough. But hey, I'm not the ultimate authority on these things. What do you guys think?
