The Falcoholic 2012 Falcons Preseason Schedule

The NFL came out with the preseason schedules for all teams today, and here's the Falcons: TBD Ravens at ATL 8/16 Bengals at ATL on CBS TBD Dolphins at MIA 8/30 Jags at JAX. I know for most of you fellow Falcoholics that you don't give a hoot about the preseason. But to me it's still football, and the regular season not far behind. I'm bored as you can see!

The Falcoholic Kelvin Hayden is Talking to the Saints

Read the info on the NFC South Blog on the ESPN.com site. Evil Saints at it again to dish us? Don't know, but I just wanted to share this. Getting tired of this Saints stuff. They'll burn in He double hockey sticks anyway for what they have done. The Falcons should of been talking to a few of their players. We'll see what happens here. Just like the Parcells stuff. I'm Saintsout. Done with it.

The Falcoholic Bill Parcells to the Evil Saints?

I saw this morning on ESPN that the Saints want to talk to Bill Parcells about possibly coaching them for 2012. I'm not going to say anymore about it, because I've gotten sick of this Saints crap. Just want to read what yoou Falcoholics have to say about it. I vented on my facebook SoCal Falcons fan club page about it this morning. If you really know how I feel about all this Saints stuff, I'll be happy to comment.

The Falcoholic Cool Falcons Logo

If you want to see this cool Falcons logo, go to www.projectphantom.com, and go to the NFC South redesign page, and check out the Falcons and the other teams logos. They are quite good, especially the Falcons one. They have most the league done. I believe the NFC West, AFC West, and AFC East they are still working on. The site is run by a few University of Tennessee @ Knoxville students who are very talented artists to say the least. You might want to check out some of their other stuff as well. They pretty much got the representations (mascots) down pretty accurately. LMK what you think!

The Falcoholic Falcons-Jaguars Series History

I'm a little early this week, due to the fact that this game is on Thursday!

The Jaguars lead the all time series, 3-1, going back to 1996, when the Falcons lost that first encounter at JAX, 19-17, when Morten Andersen slipped on the grass trying to kick a GW FG and knock the Jags out of the playoffs. Other then that, the rest of the games have been rather boring, including a 21-14 Falcons victory to close the 2003 season.

Now for Thursday. Big game in the ATL for the Falcons. Win, be 9-5, and looking good for the postseason, and 10 days to rest before the 12/26 in NO. I expect Tony Gonzalez to have a huge game on Thursday. I feel it in my bones, can't get it out of my head for some reason, and that's a good thing. Matt Ryan is on fire, and I also expect him to keep it going with another 300 yard effort. Michael Turner I think will break the 100 yard barrier in this one. Take your pick on the WR's in this one. Roddy, JJ, Harry. One of these dudes is going to bust out here. The D will be beastly, led by Spoon and Co.

Hope they bring pressure all night on Blaine Gabbert. The crowd better "rise up" for this one, and make it so loud in the 'Dome that the Jags can't do anything. Predicted score: Falcons 31-Jags 13. I'll miss this game due to the fact that my six year old daughter is participating in her school's Christmas program. No worries though, I'll DVR the game to watch it later, and my Falcon fan friends Kash and Aces wil be texting me throughout, and have the car radio as well. After the game on Thursday, it will be time to rest and relax, watch the games that affect us, and enjoy a Christmas break of sorts for 10 days before the big game in NO on 12/26. I'll be back on 12/23 with the Falcons-Saints series history #2.

Until then, Go Falcons! One more thing: We are overdue to domiminate someone for 60 minutes. Hopefully, this is the game we do it!

The Falcoholic Bringing the Heat

Interesting little piece I found on the ESPN NFC South blog with Pat Yasinkas. It's at the bottom of the piece mentioning that when the Falcons and Panthers met last, Cam Newton had some issues with the Falcons rush, completing only 37% of his passes against the blitz, though he was able to read other teams blitzes, but struggled against the Falcons. The Falcons need to establish some sort of a rush as well on Sunday to rattle him. He is still a rookie, prone to mistakes, and I see that happening on Sunday. There is another piece in the same article about how well the Falcons rebound after a loss during the Mike Smith era. Don't forget the rather porous Panthers defense, whom defending the run is horrendous. Turner, Snelling, and Quizz should have a field day, plus the fact that their secondary is depleted as well. Funny that no one else has really talked about that all week, just concern for Newton, and justifiably so, but he is NOT the whole team. The Falcons D will rise up, and do some serious damage on Sunday. The Falcons have some suprises up their collective sleeves for us this season, and they are NOT done at all. Please, no Mularkey moron mode anymore, I'm tired of him and the coaches holding this team back, let them loose, and stop farting around, that's one of the reasons we are in the position we are right now.

The Falcoholic Message to the Falcons

Not going to say much here, but here is the message, plain and simple for this Sunday, and the rest of the season: Just win the friggin football game(s) please! And, hopefully, save us a lot of grief and infighting here on the blog. It's the holiday season, and you (the Falcons) can provide a lot of cheer for us, so let's go out and WIN please! I don't know why you (the Falcons) have to make things so hard for yourselves and us. This needs to stop. Thank You.

The Falcoholic Falcons-Panthers Series History #2

I'm posting a day early this week, due to family stuff that needs to be taken care of. The Falcons lead the all time series, 21-12, going back to 1995.

I'm not going into details on any of the games, with the exception of the one played at the ATL on October 16th, which saw the Falcons winning, 31-17. The Panthers hung in there for one half and part of the third quarter before the Falcons started to apply a little defensive pressure, and forcing Cam Newton out of his game, committing a couple of turnovers, which the Falcons took full advantage of.

Okay, now for this week. Big game for the birds as they go to CAR this time around. The Panthers defense is pretty beat up, I hear they are down to the nubs on some postions. The Falcons need to establish the run game, against a horrible run defense, so thay can set up the pass, and quite possibly this time be able to complete the plays by CATCHING the ball! Should these things occur, they'll be fine, as long as MM gets his head out of his butt, and let the offense loose, and please do the hurry up, because it simply works for us, and let Matt run the ship, please. I expect the defense to come up huge in this one.

Newton is scary, but is mistake prone, and I think the d will force some TO's and get a couple of sacks. As for a score prediction, I think the Falcons will win, but it depends on which team decides to show up. If it's the one that flogged the Colts, I say the score is 38-14 (Yes,really. This team is due to blow someone out.) If it's the team that beat the Titans and Vikings, I say 34-24. If it's the crap team we saw last Sunday, it could be a long day. I really don't see the Falcons losing, there's way too much on the line, and they need to take care of business. They do that, they will be in the playoffs. Any help is appreciated, but I would like the Falcons do it themselves, it's more satisfying that way.

Next week, the post will probably be on Monday or Tuesday, because of the Thursday night date at the ATL against the Jags.

The Falcoholic Falcons Let Us Down

I think the title says it all. We as a Falcon Nation, were let down by our team yesterday. This had to be the worst performance outside of the Bears game to start the season. Couldn't do jack shit at all. Receivers couldn't catch, QB overthrows, and really STUPID defensive penalties that eventually cost them the game. Give the Texans credit however for taking advantage of we gave them. In my opinion, the Falcons should of won this game, but again, the coaching staff has a major fail in game planning and play calling, and it showed. This team needs to be MORE aggressive on both sides of the ball, and simply are not doing it. The Falcons let themselves down as well, and they are well aware of it, and need to pick this thing up by the bootstraps NOW. They caught huge brakes yesterday with the Giants, Bears, Lions, and Cowboys losing, and they are still sixth in the playoff seeding, just like at the beginning of the day yesterday. They need to go out there and take care of their own business, because they can, and don't need to depend on someone else. Of course, any help is appreciated. I see comparisons between this year's team, and the Packers last year. Know what? If this team doesn't get their collective heads out of their asses, you can forget any comparisons to anything. Not even worried about the postseason right now, just concentrating on the next opponent, which are the Panthers, a team we beat eariler, and can beat them again, as long as we don't screw it up. The landscape is developing for us outthere, and better take advantage of it, or heads will roll after the season. I've gotten sick and tired of my friends teams going to the playoffs and Super Bowls every year, while I'm on the sideline wondering whether or not I will ever get a chance to actually celebrate a championship. Right now, that's a long way off.

The Falcoholic Falcons-Texans Series History

It's that time of week again to preview one of the Falcons 2011 opponents. This week, the Texans. The series is tied 1-1, going back to 2003, when the Texans won the first encounter in Houston, 17-13. This game was the return of Michael Vick from his leg injury in the second half of the game to try to jump start a sputtering offense, which couldn't do diddly, and had a chance to win late. Don't know why Dan Reeves just didn't start Vick. The season was a lost cause anyway. The second encounter was 2007, the return of Matt Schuwab to the ATL, and the Falcons getting their first win, 26-16. I beleive it was a late interception of a Schuwab pass late that sealed it. Don't remember much from that game, or the other one because probably both teams were just plain shitty. As for this game coming up on Sunday, I do see the birds taking full advantage of the Texans QB situation with T.J. Yates. Hopefully, the D will apply constant pressure throughout the game so he can make mistakes, to their advantage. The Texans have the number one overall D in the league, which will present a challenge for the Falcons, but as long as Matty Ice is in a groove, getting Turner going, and running the hurry up the WHOLE GAME, they should be fine. Hopefully the oc's playcalling won't be so vanilla, but I'm not holding my breath. The Texans have weapons in Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, and a few others that will be a threat, so the Falcons will need to be on guard, and be on guard for the Texans D as well, this game is going to be tough. I see the Falcons in a close one, 24-20, I give them the edge because of the QB advantage, which Matt Ryan should exploit. Next week, I'll be back for Panthers 2.

The Falcoholic Falcons-Vikings Series History

Happy Thanksgiving Falcoholics! Back for another edition of the 2011 opponents series history, this week we'll look at the Vikings. The Vikings lead the regular season series, 15-9, going back to 1966, and the post season series is tied, 1-1, going back to 1982. I think that we all know the single greatest game in the history of the Falcons was the 1998 NFC Championship Game, but let's discuss some of the regular seasons tilts. The Falcons won the first two meetings in the series, 20-13 in 1966, and 21-20 in 1967. The 1967 game was the only victory for the Falcons that season, and probably got future Falcons head coach, Norm Van Brocklin, fired. How ironic is that? The Vikings had largely dominated the series through the 70's, 80's, and 90's. But, there are some good games that the Falcons managed to win. 1973. MNF in the ATL. I don't remember much of this game, I was twelve at the time, but what I do remember is the Vikings were undefeated, and the crowd was so loud that you could hear the announcers on the TV, and the Falcons won, 20-14. If anyone can fill me in on some of that game's details, I'd appreciate it. My favorite game is the MNF in November of 1981, in a constant rain storm that evening, saw the Falcons come back from being down 21-7 at the half to win a wild one, 31-30. It was one of the better games of a disappointing season. Got this game on VHS. Love watching it from time to time. Couple of desparate teams trying to make the playoffs, and neither one did. The 2002 game at MIN went into OT, and remember Michael Vick running for the winning TD in OT, and watching two Vikings collide each other while trying to catch Vick, who just flew by them into the tunnel with a 30-24 victory. The 2008 game at MIN was memorable for the fact the Falcons clinched their first playoff spot since 2004, 24-17. As far as this game on Sunday goes, I look for a game simliar to the Colts game, with domimation on both sides of the ball, and now especially with AP out, the Falcons D will tee off on Christian Ponder and Co.,though Percy Harvin will need attention. Falcons will prevail, 35-7. I just think they will just simply dominate this one. Look for Matt Ryan to continue his 300 yard passing, and Michael Turner turning in another 100+ yd performance, again take your pick on the WR who will have a great day. It was Roddy last week, and may be him again, we'll see. I think Tony will have a fine day. That's it for now, be back next week with the Matt Schaubless Texans.

The Falcoholic Falcons-Titans Series History

Hi Falcoholics, I'm posting a little earlier this week, so here goes.

The next installment of the 2011 Falcon opponent series is here, this week, the Titans. This series dates back to 1972, when the Titans were the Houston Oilers, and the Falcons winning that one, 20-10. The Titans lead the all time series, 7-5, with the Falcons winning last in 1990, in the ATL.

It was the season opener with Jerry Glanville and the new look black unis for the Falcons. The score was 47-27, the Falcons I believe, led 27-7 at the half, and Deion Sanders had either a kick or punt return for a TD. It was a fun day all around in otherwise a dreary 5-11 season in which the Falcons went 0-8 on the road.

The 1978 encounter is noteworthy because it was also the season opener, and Earl Campbell's (skoal, brother!) debut in which the Falcons prevailed, 20-14, in the ATL.

My favorite game was the 1981 encounter (last time the Falcons won in Houston) a 31-27 thriller in which the Falcons had built a big lead against a rather ineffective Oiler offense lead by Ken Stabler, only to hold on when they took over with two minutes left and the Oilers had no to's. Gifford Nielsen replaced Stabler, only to be replaced by Stabler when he went down. I have this game on DVD, only the last two minutes of the game are missing, and all that was is watching Steve Bartkowski kneel down four times.

The 1984 game at the ATL was 42-10 blow out of the Oilers. The rest of the games have been won by the Oilers/Titans, and haven't been really that great.

As for this week, the Falcons will finally beat these guys for the first time in 21 years, 31-21. I see another good performance by Michael Turner, also, I think one of the WR's will break through (take your pick), and the D will play like its no tomorrow. This is a game they need, and will get it. The drive for the playoffs starts Sunday, and this is the first step in that process. There had better be some better play calling by the OC, or I'm going to Sirius B (the star, not the group) to have a very major BULL!

Next week, another big contest, the Vikings.

The Falcoholic The Magnificent Seven

Hi Falcoholics, It's all in the title, the last seven games of the season, four at home, three at home. We all know about what happened on Sunday, we can bitch and moan all we want to, and it's not going to change a thing. I watched the same game as everyone else. We came from behind only to lose. Not going to discuss it anymore, it's done, let's move on. I'm an optimist, and always have a positive mental attitude on life, and that's why I'm doing this post today. I also want everyone here on Falcon Planet to feel better, and get some confidence for the rest of the season, this is what I think may happen with the Falcons for the rest of the season: 11/20 Titans: Got them in the dome. They are playing some good ball right now, but they are up and down as well. Not to worried about this game. The D should be able to harrass Hasselback all game, hopefully contain Chris Johnson and limit the WR corps. Falcons are the better team in all phases. Will go over series history on Thursday. Predicted score: Falcons 31-Titans 21. Montra for the rest of the season: No turnovers, cut way back on penalties, no stupid decision making. 11/27 Vikings: Got them in the dome as well. They may be 2-8 by this date. Another winnable game, no excuses. AP is the main weapon to focus on, and Christian Ponder is pretty decent. Predicted score: Will post that on the series history. 12/4 @ Texans: Tough road match up. Thing is about this game, is what Texans team and what Falcons team is going to show up. This could be either a shoot out, or a tar pit battle. 12/11 @ Panthers: Cam Newton will put up alot of yards on us in this one, but their D is horrible against the run, hence Chris Johnson on Sunday, and the O doesn't take care of the ball. The Falcons should prevail in this one. 12/15 Jaguars: Second to last home game. Nationally televised. Again, another team who has trouble scoring points. They have ball control issues, and a decent D. Falcons again should prevail in this one. 12/26 @ Saints: Okay everyone mark the date on your calendars. This could be the game for the division title. We beat them there last season, and we can do it again. The Falcons are 2-9 against the Saints since 2006. They have trouble beating the Saints, no doubt, and until they can beat them consistently, the Falcons cannot take that next step. This game will be a proving ground for them. 1/1 Bucs: Last home game of the regular season. The Bucs are who I thought they were. The earlier loss against them hurts even more now because of Sunday. The Falcons should be able to win rather easily, I think, and hopefully they have at least one more game to play after this one. Wrap Up: The Falcons remind me of last year Packers, pissing around during the regular season, then just managing to eek out a playoff spot, then kicking everyone's butt in the postseason. We'll see happens. I can see a record between 10-6 and 12-4. This team is capable of doing almost anything, and it's up to them to get it done. Need to take things one game at a time, and take care of their own business, and if things work out like I think they will, we'll be right there when it's all said and done.

The Falcoholic Falcons-Saints Series History

Hi Falcoholics, Back for another installment of the series history of the Falcons 2011 opponents. This week, we'll go over the Saints. The Falcons lead the all time series, 45-38 dating back to 1967, when the Saints won the first ever regular season encounter, 27-24. There have been some rather exciting games between these two down through the years, and this year should hold true to form. Before I get into some of the games I like, there was the 1973 season opener when the Falcons blasted the Saints, 62-7 at old Tulane Stadium. The Saints had eight turnovers in that game, and I believe the Falcons scored on everyone of them. I would have to go back through my records to confirm this, it's been thirty eight years since that game! There has been five ot games in the series, with the Falcons winning four of those. Now, my favorite games of this series to date: Both 1978 games, when the Falcons "Big Benned" the Saints both times, 20-17, the first 1979 game, in which the Falcons won in ot when Russell Erxeleben (spelling is wrong) goofed big time on a punt, and the Falcons scored to complete a comeback. The 1991 second game (another ot) in NO, in which the Falcons CFB (came from behind) on national TV to win, 23-20, thanks to Michael Haynes big plays. The 1991 playoff game, of course, more Michael Haynes, and another CFB, after being down 10 entering the fourth quarter. My favorite game of this series was the first one in NO in 2010, might of been one of the best regular season games all season. I think that we all know the details to that game. Just simply awesome. Another OT game, 27-24. As for this Sunday's game, I think it will be another one of those close ones. The Saints are banged up a little, and that is to the Falcons advantage. As long as Drew Brees is manning the helm, they will be right there. I expect a huge game from the defense on Sunday. Look for some big plays to be made, especially up front, putting pressure on Brees all game, throwing off his timing. This game will be won defensively, I think. As far as the offense goes, I see Turner having a good day, along with JJ, Tony, and Roddy. I think HD is going to be seen and heard. Matty Ice will just keep plugging along, and Matt "Ice Water" Bryant will contribute as well. I see a 31-24 Falcons victory in this one, give or take a few points. This game is at the ATL, so we'll successfully defend our turf. To be honest with all of you, I really don't see the Falcons losing hardly any more games this season, they are playing a lot better since the beginning of the season, and the defense is playing exceptionally well. I'll be back next week with the Titans.

The Falcoholic Falcons-Colts Series History

After a week off, I'm back with the next installment of the 2011 Falcons opponents series history. This week, the Colts.

This is one ugly series, with the Colts leading 13-1, going back to 1966. Mind you in those days between 1966-1969, the Colts were a powerhouse in the NFL, while the Falcons were the whipping boys for some teams. Tough to beat guys on the same team as Unitas, Berry, Mackey, Curtis, Don Shula, etc.

The Falcons managed to be competitive in five of those seven games. The low point, in my opinion, came in 1986, when a winless Colts team came in to the ATL, to win, 28-23, when the Falcons blew a lead late, and eventually got Dan Henning fired after the season. The high point, of course, came in 1998, when the Falcons recorded their first regular season victory, 28-21, at the ATL, after being down, 21-7, at the half.

As you can see, there is really nothing more to discuss, other than the fact that the Falcons are in Indy this week, a place where they have never won, playing a beat up, winless team.

The Falcons will win in Indy finally, 35-10, to go to 5-3 on the season. The Falcons will not take this one lightly, and should put these guys away early and often. I see a lot of Michael Turner in this game, and look for Roddy to have a big afternoon. And the defense should have their best game of the season to date. Look for the D to be all over it on Sunday.

Next week, I'll have a team that is near and dear to us, the Saints.

The Falcoholic Got Falcons?

Since I got nothing going on this week besides regular stuff, and no game, I figured that this would be a good time to finally talk about my Got Falcons book. The book is basically a large three ring binder with around 300 pages of Falcons related stuff, such as, Regular season series, postseason series, preseason series for starters, which take up the bulk of the book. The other stuff includes: A city index which has every place the Falcons have ever played at, regular, pre and post season, with descriptions of stadiums and certain games. Falcons last win at opposition, OT w-l-t records, overall w-l-t records, total games played against all teams, Falcons records vs opposing coaches, both active and inactive, a Falcons vs the NFL cheat sheet, an NFL team directory, and all NFL w-l-t records. almost forgot, a Falcons w-l-t site records sheet as well. The book is also illustrated throughout with Falcons artwork, and other NFL team representations. Each week during the season, the book is updated with the current results and anything else that accompanies it. The origins of the book go back to 1981, when it was good ol' pen, paper and pencil. It was a bitch every week to do this, even though at the time the book was very basic, just the all time regular series combined with the postseason games, with the all time standings, Falcons team directory, and a few logos, and that was it. Hated when I had to make a new replacement page because of too many eraser marks! Book is now fully cyberspace and binder. Got real cool looking Falcon pics inside and out. Book finally entered the 21st century in 2004. This book does not have any player stats or bios in it. It's all franchise stuff. Got all of the material from media guides, the Official NFL Record and Fact book, and Pro Football Reference.com. The new version of the book took a few months to compile, copying, looking for pictures, etc. A lot of late nights on the computer. If you folks think I have a lot of time on my hands, I don't. I have three kids under the age of six, which occupy most of my time. I do find the time when they are at school, sleeping, with grandparents, mother, etc. The book is an ongoing project, always adding and subtracting stuff. It's a lot of fun. Next week, I'll continue with my weekly series of the series history against the 2011 opposition, which will be the Colts.

The Falcoholic Falcons-Lions Series History

Hi all, back again for another installment of the series history of the 2011 Falcons opponents. This week, the Lions. The Lions lead the all time series, 23-10, going back to 1966. The Lions won the first nine games of this series until the Falcons finally broke through with a 17-6 victory in the ATL in 1977. The 1978 affair also in the ATL, saw the Falcons get their first ever home shut out, 14-0. The 1980 game in the ATL, saw the Falcons blitz the Lions in short order in the second quarter with I believe 28 points enroute to a 34-6 half time lead, and go on to win, 43-28. The 1998 game in Detroit was special, without Dan Reeves, the Falcons struggled through most of the game, but were able to come from behind, to win, 24-17, and the NFC West. The 2002 game in the ATL, was a 36-15 laugher, with Michael Vick running all over the Lions. And, of course, the 2008 season opener, remember that one? Hmmm, wasn't the game when Matty Ice's first NFL pass was a 62 yard TD pass to Michael Jenkins? Always will remember that moment and game. The 2005 game in Detroit was the first ever Thanksgiving game for the Falcons, winning that one, 27-7. There has been some duds as well in this series, the 2006 game in Detroit, in which a 5-2 Falcons team, got crunched, 30-14, and then the roof fell in on that season. As for this game on Sunday, the Falcons have an excellent chance of winning, especially after last week's performance. The Lions are still a young team learning how to win, and they will make mistakes. Developing a pass rus is key against Matthew Stafford, force him into mistakes. As far as Megatron Calvin Johnson goes, well just let him go, can't cover the dude! The Lions are horrible against the run, and their secondary is so-so, so if the Falcons stick to the forumla from last week, they will win this game, 28-24. Minimize penalties and turnovers, and keep the potent Lions offense on the field, and the birds will have success. If you of came to me a couple of weeks ago, and said what are the Falcons chances against the Lions, I would said your were friggin' nuts! There will no be post next week, due to the bye, I'll be back in two weeks with the Colts series. Go Falcons, Good Luck!

The Falcoholic Falcons-Panthers Series History

Hi Folks, It's that time of week, Thursday, and that means one thing: The weekly installment of the 2011 Falcons opponents series history. This week, it's the Panthers.

The Falcons lead the all time series (they only lead in five series) 20-12, going back to 1995. Last years games were a pair of 31-14 yawners, with the Falcons winning both. This is a typically close series, with a lot of these games going down to the wire, but there has been some exceptions, especially with the Falcons wins. 2002, both scores were 41-0 and 30-0 shut outs.

The two last year, and the 45-28 game in the ATL in 2008. That game was pretty good, a rather boring first half, followed by an exciting second half, which saw Michael Turner run all over the kitty kats, with some help from Matty Ice and the D. Remember the second 1998 affair in the ATL? Falcons scoring an NFL record 21 points in around 30 seconds or so, winning 51-23. The Panthers couldn't get out of their own way in that game.

The Falcons have won all three of the OT games, 1995: 20-17, 2003: 20-14, by an interception return for TD, 2004, a great 34-31 thriller, best game of that season, in my opinion. I can go over more, but there is no need to.

As for this Sunday, the game is in the ATL, which is a plus, we have been inconsistent this season overall, committing way to many penalties, and not playing a full half of football, plus the fact we are banged up, but I see some silver lining here. I believe that the Falcons will finally put one together on Sunday, and I think the Panthers will give all they have, but the Falcons will win this one, 31-20.

I expect Turner to have a good day, and look more out of Roddy and Gonzo, plus Matt will take this one by the horns, and expect he D to make some plays, like hurrying Cam Newton, making him earn everything he gets.

Ths is a game the Falcons need, because next week's opponent is the Lions, and I'll have that series to go over, and another post detailing why I think that game might a wake up call for the Falcons.

The Falcoholic Falcons-Packers Series History

Hi Falcoholics, Please disregard the article that I posted earlier today about being on hiatus. I got some great comments on that, e-mails from friends, and most importantly, my wife and five year old daughter, who gave me an earful about all this.

So, now, the next installment of the 2011 opponents series history: The Packers. The series in the regular season is tied all time at 12, with the Falcons winning the last two, 2008, in GB, 2010, in the ATL. Both great ball games.

The 2008 game, in opinion, put this team on the map, when most didn't give them a shot of winning, and they went into Lambeau, and basically Micheal Turnered them to death, 27-24. And the one last year should of been the playoff game, 20-17.

We all know what took place in that game. There have been some doozies in this series, the 1981 game in GB, saw the Falcons play like total crap for three quarters, then just smoked the Packers with 31 fourth quarter points, which is still an NFL record for most fourth quarter points, 31-17. Got this game on VHS, a joy to watch! In 1983, in the ATL, an exciting back and fourth affair that went into OT, which ended when Packers QB Len Dickey throw a pick to Kenny Johnson, who ran it back for the winning TD, 47-41.

The 1991 game, also in the ATL, was another play like crap game for the first half, with the Falcons down, 24-7, then storming back with the play of Chris Miller to win, 35-31. And, I usually don't talk about losses to much, but the 2002 regular season game, was pretty good with the Falcons forcing OT, after being down big, only to lose to Brett and crew, 37-34. That game was in GB. A sign of things to come for that season. If there is anything as a"feel good loss" that one was it.

The Packers lead the postseason series, 2-1. All Falcon fans know the results of those games, and don't need to go over with here. As for this game, again I'm not predicting a score, but I see a high scoring affair that maybe decided by either a big play or a score off a turnover.

I will be back next week with the next installment: The Panthers.

The Falcoholic Series History on Hiatus

Hi, Starting this week, and until further notice, the series history against the 2011 opponents will be on hiatus due to lack of interest. I put in alot of time on Thursdays to post this info up for all to read, but, from what I have seen over the last month, there has not been enough comments on the post to even warrant further postings. I do Thank those folks who have taken the time last season and this season who read and posted a comment or two. I will be posting and commenting on other falcon related subjects as always. If anyone does want some info regarding a particular series, or game, contact me at falcon04@cox.net. Thank You, Evil Falcon

The Falcoholic The EvilFalcon Speaks

Yes, I have commentary on what has been going on lately with the Falcons, and the blog. As far as the Falcons go, I think we all know what the problem is. It's funny when things don't go right, that coaches should be fired, players should be traded or cut. You know what? Doing that will not solve the problem. Just got to suck it up and deal with it. It is what it is. As far as the blog goes, I'v gotten tired of us fans tearing each other apart when the Falcons lose, then all touchy feely when they win. Give me a break people. It's just a game, we don't work or play for this organization, and I think that we take this stuff way too seriously. We cannot control what goes on the field. Whatever happens, happens. Sure, I get discouraged when they lose, who doesn't. But, I have learned to put that stuff behind me, and move on. I have a family and other more important things in my life to take care and accomplish. The Falcons are one of my escapes that I have to enjoy once a week, and I appreciate it. We have a right to our opinions, and that what makes it fun when we are on the blog, but, as i said earlier, it's not cool to destroy each other when things are not going good. It's not the end of the world, you know. This is a LONG football season, and things WILL change throughout. Let me give you some examples of Falcons starts: 1978: Started 1-3, finished 9-7, made playoffs. 1980: Started 3-3, finished 12-4, won division, made playoffs 1981: Started 3-0, finished 7-9, missed playoffs 1991: Started 0-2, finished 10-6, made playoffs 2002: Started 1-3, finished 9-6-1, made playoffs This is nothing new to me. I've been a fan since the late seventies, and I'm use to this type of stuff. I will always support the Falcons no matter what, and just remember the 1981 season, if any of you were around then. It was the most disappointing team ever for me, and will cover this season in depth at a future date. EvilFalcon has spoken. Out.

The Falcoholic Falcons-Seahawks Series History

Hi, For those who care, this is the fourth installment of my weekly series looking the series history of the Falcons 2011 opponents, this week, it's the Seahawks.

The Seahawks lead the all time series. 8-4, with the Falcons winning the last two, a 44-41 jousting match to close the 2007 season in the ATL, and the 34-18 drubbing of the Ospreys in Seattle last season to close out the road portion of the schedule, and the three week road trip.

First time these teams got together was in 1976, with the Seahawks winning their second game ever as a franchise, 30-13 in Seattle. For us who were around in 1979 (such as myself) the MNF game in October was memorable because of the stuff the Seahawks pulled in that game, which was pretty cool, if you ask me. Most of these games have been medium to high scoring affairs.

My favorite was the 1991 closer to Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, a 26-13 Falcons victory, and a playoff clinching victory.

As for this Sunday, this is a game the Falcons need, and I think they are clearly the better team. I think they'll win, but will not predict a score. Next week, I'll have the Packers on the slate.

The Falcoholic Falcons-Bucs Series History

Hi Falcoholics, Time again for another installment of the 2011 opponents series history, this week, it's the Bucs. The Bucs lead the all time series, 18-17, with the Falcons winning the last five, and all close and sweet. The series dates back to 1977, with the Falcons wininng, 17-0. The thing I remember about that game is what coach John McKay said that week about putting his team (who still hadn't won a game yet) naked on the field to distract Steve Bartkowski, so he and the Falcons would forfit because of the horrifying site. Probably wouldn't of worked anyway because the Bucs were putrid back then. Now, back to the present. Those last five W's have been sweet, with the 2009 ender to clinch the first back to back winning seasons ever, the OT game in '08, and the Redman game in '09. But, it's the two games last season that were fantastic, especially the one in Tampa, where it seemed the Falcons were done being down 24-14, entering the fourth, but when Magic Weems returned the ko back for the touch, and then Matty Ice leading the winning drive to win, I had a major bull, couldn't believe they had won. This game also has special meaning for the EvilFalcon. My son, Matthew Ryan, was born two hours before the game started, and my wife let me go home to watch the second half, and had my buddy Jose, update me by text during the first half. It was a day I'll never forget, it also marked the first Falcon win on the day or week when my kids were born. I see another rock'em, sock'em battle on Sunday, again, no predictions, it worked last week, so I'm staying the course. If any of you Falcoholics have questions about this, or any other series, I have all of it in my Got Falcons book, and should have an answer for you. Next week, it's another bird battle as the Falcons travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks, and if you know my friend Kash Berry, he went to the game there last season, and had quite a tale to tell, if you hsven't read it. I'll be back next week. Go Falcons!!!

The Falcoholic Falcons-Eagles Series History

Hi Falcoholics, it's that time of week again, when EvilFalcon brings you the series history against the 2011 opponents. This week it's the Eagles.

The Eagles lead the all time series, 15-10-1, that dates back to 1966. Here's a useless tidbit for you: The Eagles were the first ever Falcons opponent in 1966, a 9-7 loss in the first preseason game in the ATL, and were the second opponent in the regular season that year, another loss in Philly, 23-10.

But, we'd get them back in 1978 for the first ever playoff game, a 14-13 come from behind deal, on a rainy Christmas Eve in the ATL. How many of you fans were around back then? I saw the game on CBS, got mad at both teams for sloppy play, but the swifter birds of prey prevailed here.

Best game in my opinion was the 1980 game in Philly, in which the Falcons won again by coming from behind, 20-17, on a Tim Mazzetti FG, with little time left, it sealed the first ever home field advantage in the playoffs, for what it was worth.

The Eagles have won the last four, three of those have been pretty ugly to say the least. The Falcons are due to beat these guys, but I'm not to sure about this game on Sunday. The 2011 Eagles are loaded, with speed up the ying-yang, and they are very, very good. Hey, at least they are not in the NFC south, and not the friggin' Cowboys!

The media will kiss Vick's butt, as usual, and Cris Collinsworth will have a field day, as he always does. I try to stay away from the talking head stuff, all blah, blah, blah, if you ask me. Just get your news online, best way to go.

Not making a prediction this week, don't want to curse them! Will be back next week with installment number three, the Bucs. Arrrrggghhh!!!!

The Falcoholic Falcons-Bears Series History

Hi all, EvilFalcon is back! And, the first of 16 installments of the Falcons series history against the 2011 schedule. This week, it's Da Bears!

The series is tied at 12-12 all time, with the Falcons winning the last two in the ATL, the awesome 2008 game, and the not so awesome, but satisfying 2009 Sunday night game. The respective scores are; 22-20 in 2008, and 21-14 in 2009. Both games went down to the wire, and the Falcons had goaline stands in both games, which would have a huge part in both outcomes.

The Falcons dominated the series through the seventies, going 5-2, and 2-2 during the sixties, and 9-4 after 1983, but Da Bears would domimate after that, going 8-1 until 2008. The last time the Falcons won in the Windy City was in 1983, the first game of the Dan Henning regime (gag!), a 20-17 victory.

Now it's time to end that dubious streak on Sunday with another close one, 21-17, in my very humble opinion. I don't care how the Falcons go about doing it, just win the game, Thank You!

Next week, the Eagles are the team in the spotlight. FYI: I'll be posting info about my Got Falcons? info book soon. All Falcoholics must read it! See you Falcoholics next week, and in the meantime, I'll be reading your fun posts!

Will be back on Thursday with my seasonal Falcons vs opponents posts. Also have a new profile pic. What do you guys think of it? I'll be around quite a bit this season to offer my take on what is going on, and will be sharing my book, called got falcons? I'll go into detail on it on a later post. Talk later, Falconators!!

The Falcoholic Some Meaningless Stuff

Hi all, this is my first post of the season. Falconplanet is my other name. I'm trying to get TheEvilFalcon next to my pic you see. But anyway, some meaningless preseason stuff for you folks. 2011 was only the third time the Falcons went winless in the preseason: 1979 aand 2003 the others, if you are curious to see howw they did in the regular season, 1979 6-10, 2003 5-11. I don't think that the Falcons are going to crash and burn here, but at least one preseason win would be been cool, but I saw alot of loafing out there. We better be ready for the season coming up, and us fans need to concentrate on the Falcons, and no one else. As long as they take care of the business they're supposed to, we'll be fine. I'll return next week with the first installment of the series history against the 2011 opponents, Da Bears! Also, I would like to share with all of you my got falcons? book. I'll write a post about it soon. I'm interested in reading any comments you may have. I'll see you next week!
