Bad Left Hook The evolution of a "Mega Fight"

Eventhough I am considerably young in age (26 yrs old if your wondering) I do not recall the expression of a "Mega Fight" being used in abundance as it has within the last few years.  The huge draw of spectators and fanatics had always been for the heavyweight division it had seemed, until the late seventies with lightweights and middleweights resurrecting from the undercards to the main stage, think the Duran's, the Sugar Ray's, the Arguello's brought an entire fresh outlook in the sport of boxing.  In essence producing "Mega Fight's" in a variety of division's and bringing the fans such bouts on a much more regular basis.  The most popular and arguably undisputed fighter's in the World would collide together and  create history in the making amongst boxing enthusiast.  Such Mega fight's where Lewis-Ali, Ali-Frazier, Leonard-Duran, Hagler-Hearns  to name a few where considered "The Fight" of such era's.  If you can recall some of boxing's history  and these fights itself, you can personally recall why they where "The Fights, Mega Fights" the talent and resumee that each boxer carried was impressive to say the least , but they where scheduled due to rankings, record's and ofcourse popular demand thus the term Mega fight without a doubt..

Taking it into the future and present we must mention this era's so called Mega fights Mayweather-Delahoya, Mayweather-Hatton, it can be argued that these where indeed good fight's, but what had titled them as the "Mega Fights" was not so much the rankings of these fighter's or the record wich were impressive, but their market value, they where not categorized as such by the boxing fans, but by the media and promoter's greed that instead of emphasizing in record's and draws of boxing enthusiast  but draw of OVERALL money value, thus bringing a new generation of Mega Fights based on PayPerView sales, headlining them as "Mega Fights", (Media Mega Fights as I like to call them..)  2009 has brought hope into what I believe takes us back into basics, we have found a worthy and adequate type of  bout to call Mega Fight's, Mayweather-Marquez this weekend and in the near future Pacquiao-Cotto. Soon after after the last bell of the last round rings, we can only wonder what title can be next to such a fight Mayweather-Pacquiao or Marquez-Cotto "mega Fight" will no longer be enough that's for sure, cannot wait...
